Creative minds are rarely tidy. But that doesn’t mean we can’t try. Right now I have pockets of mess in my house, my barn and my shop. Recently I bought clear bins to organize my hutch in my bathroom. It’s a small step but I love it so much. It’s hard to find the time but I am trying to keep up organizing. You got this friend ❤

Give your Dad a hug! Gosh, I miss mine! I am astounded at all the things he used to do for me. I'd ask him to do all kinds of intricate woodworking stuff, even building shelving, etc. And he never complained, just set about doing it. If he were still alive, he'd be 108 years old and I imagine he'd still be doing things for me if I asked him to. Daddies are so amazingly great!

Not all "daddies" are "amazingly great". Quite the opposite. The majority of fathers aren`t worth a dime. I know loads of people, but very few can say that their dads have played a positive role in their lives.
@dechinta
@dechinta Месяц назад
@@lechat8533 I'm so sorry. I feel that way about my mother. She did not play any positive role in my life, other than marrying a good man. And she taught me to love books. Other than that, she was horrible. So I get it. I truly do. I apologize for triggering any bad memories. As much as I loved my Daddy, he did not take up for me against my mother's abuse. And he was the adult. He should've protected me. And then I spent the whole of my adult life choosing men like my mother, trying to "fix my childhood." My ex-husband tried to kill me and my mother didn't believe me and neither she nor Daddy even offered to come get me. Thankfully I had friends who said if I could get back to my hometown, I could stay with them. And still, my mother didn't believe me. And my ex and his father came down here to "visit" and I was standing there shaking in fear and my mother said to my ex "Go over there and hug her!

Thank you for this video. I lost my Dad and my son 6 days apart in December of 2020. My life ever since has been a cluttered mess. Not only my home but my brain! I’m starting to climb out of the numbness but it is hard. My Dad was like your Dad! He could do anything. My Son was my best friend. I also was taking care of my Grandma who out lived my Dad. She lived to be 107! I have a house that I have lived in for 38 Years! It is full of my stuff, my kids stuff and now I have stuff from my Dad and Grandma. I pray daily to God to help me. I also watch videos on decluttering😂 I had a booth in an antique mall. I thought I had found my heaven. I could create and sell what I made. New owners did not like my mix of Antique, vintage and repurposed items so they kicked me out. I had been making more money each month! They now are more into the mid century modern. So that set me back a bit. Bu I’m determined to get my home and my mind back! Love you! Sherri❤

So very sorry for your losses - I have lost my parents and my boyfriend of 22 years died in December, but I truly cannot imagine the devastation of the loss of a child - as far as the clutter, I do know the feeling of that & I will tell you that the actual clutter and the brain clutter are pretty much the same - they feed off each other - mine is not out of control but there are days when I have to force myself to tidy up - a little trick I use - I set a timer for 20 minutes, get as much done as I can, then take a little break & do it again as many times as I can - some days 1 time only, but at least I accomplish something every day - I hope you can find another outlet for your creative projects - prayers & blessings to you from sunny Central Florida ☺️

I agree. I suffered a mental breakdown in 2007. Years of abuse from my spouse. Then working 2 jobs while taking care of my parents both terminally ill but not at same time. Not saying I was immaculate but that’s when the mess started. I had to move last year. I lived in a about a 900 square foot home. Have you ever seen when all the clowns get out of the clown car? People that were helping were astonished at all the stuff that kept coming out. I moved into a home with about 300 more feet. Although the main part of house looks ok. My garage and front bedroom are completely packed with furniture and boxes. It’s a mess. I didn’t even have a garage at the other home or spare bedroom. It’s like all the stuff tripled in size here. I pray I get the strength to clear it out. It’s a heavy messy burden. Thanks for your story.

Total cluster BLEEP!😂😂😂 I need to get in there and finish putting away Easter crafts, but thats behind the paint and art supplies I had out for my niece and nephew! Its never ending.😢 Btw, my hubby lovingly calls it, " my crap room."

So I am 59 and I am the same way. I too have been emotional like this, all I can say by watching your beautiful beautiful life and the beautiful dad that you have that helps you and the beautiful family you have that surrounds you and the beautiful location of your home and business, and the beautiful business itself is That all those things I mentioned is what is worth “hoarding”. I lost my very similar kind of dad, my beautiful mom, and much of my family. My mom would’ve LOVED your channel as she too would’ve loved your esthetic. Make space in your home for enjoying them while they are around to enjoy. There IS potential in everything, but wouldn’t Hawaii have been more fun than decluttering? I respect you and this comes from the heart, you inspire and are such a beautiful soul. While dad is in your life, have him teach you to do the things he does, he’s so awesome, and know that I feel like my day has been enriched after I have the privilege of seeing your life…so go enjoy it more, buy less and put more time towards things that truly matter, you can find that balance and have both, family and creating and that’s a beautiful thing! Hope this helped, sorry so long, know you are truly blessed and a blessing to others!🙏💕👗🐚🌸🌿✨🌊🎨

I'm the same way and everything has gotten so bad these last few years. I lost my step-dad, father in law 4 days apart then my daughters father who I was still great friends with and his best friend who I was also close to 8 days apart a few years later. My mom passed in March. I can't get rid of things that have potential and I have so much crafting stuff I don't have room for. I would but I have an extra room full of inventory that I was reselling but another weird life thing happened and I haven't been able to sell for about a year. I have finally decided I better just get rid of most everything I don't have room for and the stuff taking up space just sitting in bins. Then, I can start over maybe. It's a lot of wasted money and I'll just cut my losses. I think having the chaos in the house cleared out will help my head to calm and clear. Now, add my adhd in the mix causing me to start many different projects and never finishing including my current plan of clearing stuff out. I have got 4 bags of clothes out to donate otherwise I'm not getting very far. I just hope I can overcome whatever it is causing all this. I've always been a bit of a I won't say hoarder but I keep things I might need down the road but it was never out of control like now. Wouldn't it be great for all if us if organizer, declutter pro just showed up to help? It's hard on your own. I try everyday. Someday maybe it will work out.

@@mousepolice55you remind me of my husband. You've been through a lot. I can see it's hard to let go of stuff when you've been forced to deal with letting go of so many people in a short time. Have you heard of body doubling? Choose a non-judgmental friend to be with you when you do some of this. Make it a mantra to get a certain part done, a room, a cupboard, a box or a drawer. I think it NEEDS to take time, I have been over certain things multiple times before I let them go. I call it combing. If you get rid of it too soon you'll feel bad. It came into your life one object at a time, and that's how it has to go out. Decluttering is thousands of small decisions, and making decisions is not always easy, especially if you have adhd. It's taxing on your psyche.

Oh Debi you’re not alone! I have a shed and garage full of stuff I need to let go of. I’ve learned slowly that getting and staying organized IS doable-it’s a matter of developing new habits. What helps me: 1) I’ve stopped buying things at the previous pace. 2) Placed boxes around the house to toss items to donate. 3) Slowly find a place for everything-it really helps! 4) In the evening before bed do a quick tidy-up. With such a tiny space putting things back is essential. On another note you have freckles! They’re adorable! I hope you let them show more often. We’re with you to learn decluttering habits! ❤❤❤

The struggle is real! I have a booth space and love to redo, repurpose and create from junk. The problem is how to keep myself from filling my home with the clutter of all I want to do. Mostly I keep the mess confined to the dining room and workroom but often I’m frustrated at the chaos of it. Recently I pulled everything out of the workroom, got rid of what didn’t work for me, donated things I wasn’t inspired to work on or sell and ended up with a room that I could actually work in, finally, with all my tools and paint and such at hand. I have to work to keep it from getting piled back up but it has really helped my productivity. It’s also hard to not keep buying things that will eventually go into my booth. I just don’t have the storage to stockpile. I appreciate the honesty of others who deal with this too. I think it’s a common problem for us “creatives”. On another note, your videos are my absolute favorite and the editing is just so good. They inspire me like no one else out there, so thank you to you and your family for continuing to make them, and for letting us into your life the way you do.

I love your videos, they always apply to my own life in one way or 100. I used to be so... "together" "organized" Ppl used to call me a neat freak, ppl used to say geeze you could eat off of Kellis floors. I'm not sure how or exactly when but a change took place somewhere. My home is now extremely cluttered, mostly with my hoard of crafting supplies and pieces of furniture I haven't painted yet and dust is collecting everywhere. I get frustrated at times but can't part with these things for some reason. When I attempt to organize or clean up I get overwhelmed and don't know where to start. My house isn't nasty but it's slowly being taken over between my things, my hubby's things and my 4 kids things. Is it bad that this bothers me less and less? Is it bad that my house doesn't look like those magazine pictures? Maybe this is just real life.... or maybe I'm just a mess... I am looking forward to seeing how you get through yours, hopefully I can follow. Xoxoxo thanks debi!!

Creative minds tend to be less organized and that’s okay until it’s not .. so tackle small areas to declutter as you feel the need so you don’t get overwhelmed .. but honestly .. it’s okay to be a maximalist .. the items we choose the colors we use our collections hold memories that help tell our own personal unique story .. I love that you are making beautiful memories with your family and friends doing what y’all love being creative and inspiring others to be creative makers as well! Thank you for sharing❤

I could see your mind becoming overwhelmed as you started to cry. That is me. I saw it happening in you right before my eyes. The flooding of thoughts, the creeping anxiety that takes over, then the freeze. That’s why it’s hard to declutter and why we keep buying more things. The buying gives us that dopamine hit we need when we’re overwhelmed and then the cycle continues. Thank you for being vulnerable especially when you think no one will understand or worse think that you’re lazy. It has nothing to do with lazy, we want to work and be in a beautiful, calming environment. We just get stuck and need someone to help us get organized and declutter. I had a best friend (she passed away from cancer😢) who was great at organizing, she organized me and once it was organized I was very ocd about keeping it organized. Get a helper and let them help you. Much love from a sister from another mister.

Am decluttering now. I am an artist and love collecting interesting and beautiful things...but am moving into a Casita being built for me , by my daughter and her husband. My rule... ' if you haven't used it in over a year...you don't need it. I have selected some of my favorite decorative pieces to keep and others are becoming gifts this year for loved ones. Things like books, CDs, DVDs I already put out on a bench by the mailboxes where I live in a senior housing area, to be donated to neighbors...ols clothes too....that were eagerly snatched up. That gave me much pleasure. Good luck and God bless.... ❤❤❤

I love what you did with those “throwaway” stands! I have a couple very similar and that now gives me an idea of what to do with them💕 Also, don’t feel bad about what you call hoarding. You’re not even close. I do the same thing and then at least once a year do a major purge to get rid of things and projects that I just never got to. I, too, live in a small space and it accumulates quickly.😊

It doesn't have to be empty 🤷 your creative mind, soul, spirit will step up to the challenge - plus you have incentive due to upcoming events! Go Debbie go.....til next time....

You are not alone. I, along with thousands of others, am afflicted with the same disease. I, too, buy things that I see potential for but don't get around to fulfilling my vision. Unfortunately, I don't have supportive, helpful family members. I have judgemental and critical family members. Looking at the clutter is depressing, but you can only do so much. One step at a time, and you'll get there. For the next area you'll tackle, I think it should be the area that bothers you the most. Good luck, I'm rooting for you.

I am also an artist, hoarder, and unorganized. Luckily my husband is a minimalist so he has helped me get rid of stuff. My biggest rule to keep my clutter down is just because I have an idea for something doesn't mean I'll have time to do it. If I don't have time or space for it I sadly say goodbye to the item. Hopefully this video motivates me to clean my house (art supplies and kids toys are out of control) as well.

I’m 74 and in middle of remodeling. With things in bins all over my house I see how much stuff I have. Lots of it I haven’t used in over a yr and don’t even miss it cuz I don’t remember it since it’s out of sight. I don’t like having bins take up all the space in my beautiful home. As remodeling is finished in kitchen and laundry rm my carpenter will be building me a shed for all my bins. As my daughter in law and her friend start to get bins out of 2 guest rooms I plan on going through them before moving to storage shed (15 by 25) I will go through them and make piles for sell, trash can and keep. I’m so lucky my daughter in law and her friend show me each object and ask which pile it goes in. This motivates me to think if it makes me super happy and want to keep or can I definitely live without it. As I get older the thought of dying and all my stuff needing to be taken out of my house and my family having to clean everything out. I do not want them to have this burden. I want to make it easy for them and not spend their time taking care of my hoard. I’m so excited for carpenter to finish in my house so he can build my shed and I can place each bin that I have reduced and labeled away for easy access when I’m gone. I’m such a pack rat and at my age have made the decision to pare down so I can enjoy the things I remember. I’m going by the adage that if I haven’t wanted something in the past 6 months chances are I can sell it or pass on to another crafter. That way I’ll help myself and someone else. Good luck Debi, it’s not a fun feeling to see piles of things I’ve hoarded taking up room in my lovely home I’m remodeling and decorating. I’ll enjoy my home and having family and friends over with space for them to stay and not feeling embarrassed.😳🙄🤪

Her 30 perfume bottles, curio cabinets I had not place to put, her pots and pans she used when I was a child... etc. I could not part from them. I had someone come in to help me de clutter and tell me someone else would LOVE some of bottles but to keep a few of the ones I gave her. TO let go of "THINGS" to be able to have room to enjoy a few of my favorite things and while it was a hard couple day of crying letting go, today I am so happy i did this. I try to use the 15 minute rule: everyday 15 minutes is spent cleaning or decluttering. Of course 15 minutes often turns into more but believing it will only be 15 minutes gets me started. I think about passing things on - I used it, enjoyed it, got my money’s worth, etc, and now it’s time to pass it on. I always keep a donation bin out to help me move things. I rarely go back and take things out. This dilemma seems very commonplace these days- just having more than we need.

I just started watching your videos and and I was shocked at how similar we are! When I go thrifting I don’t look at things for what they are, I see what they “could” be! My husband cringes when I tell him I’m making a quick trip to the local thrift shop. I make all sorts of jewelry, I sculpt a little, paint a little, rather than stick to one thing to get REALLY good I start lots of things that seldom get finished. And I never would have guessed you were 57 by looking at you because I’m also 57 (I look it). I’m upcycling a bunch of frames and a chair right now but I plan on watching more of your videos sometime today. 😄

I have been watching you off and on for several years, now, and although I do not comment, I am still out here watching you create and being inspired. Thank you. This video - is touching and you should know you are not alone in the things that you voiced. One could say we are sisters from another mister. I do the same things you do and yet desire to be organized and have the right place for everything. -- In my area and especially my neighborhood, people put the things they do not want anymore out on the curbs for people to just take AND the things they put out are good things, good bones, and they just need a little this or that and/or a fresh lick of paint and it is better than new again but they either do not want to do that or they do not know how and just toss it. More often than not, I cannot pass it up as I desire to fix them and do something with it or sell it. My house is full, the basement is not bad, the garage is full, and I too want to declutter, organize, and have it the way my mind sees it should be - BUT I have no help and - and - and - and - and..... You have family that is there for you. If you are of the mindset to have your sister or one of your nieces help you and they will not push you to chuck what you do not want to chuck - ask them to assist you. I would like to take a bunch of boxes and use them to put like items in them to see what i have and then decide what I want to keep from those things and either donate them to the church dorcus or needy shelter so those things get a new life and not just chucked in the trash. Then.....organize art supplies, etc and put things back where they belong after using PLUS limit myself to what is brought in. If you have the space on your store property see if your wonderful father will build you some storage so you can shelter things in it but keep it organized and do not let it get out of hand. Maybe it can also be a space to create. I watch, on occasion, White Cottage Company. This lady started out making over furniture and such in her house and garage but then got a space to house the items she bought to fix because she had too much and didn't know what to do as well. Check her channel out. Artists have a totally different mindset than other people. Plus, left-handed people have a totally different way of seeing and thinking than other people. I am a lefty and artistic. I am not like any of my other siblings and I do not think like them or have the same mindset they seem to share. I liken my mind to Organized Chaos. I do many of the same things you do - put something down and then spend hours looking for it and having a bit of a meltdown in the process. One thing I do fold in that process of searching is praying and asking God to help me find it. When He leads me to it, I thank Him accordingly. Debi - yes, trauma can be a trigger for many things - one could also ask; who did you grow up around? I ask this as we are very close in age and the people I was raised with/around were the generation who went through the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. The mindset of that generation was/is - you keep everything because you might need it later and you may not be able to afford it or replace it. I was doing well until the pandemic hit and then the circumstances of the situation catapulted my brain into hang onto everything and store up what you can because you may not be able to get more for who knows how long. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is called survival mode. It may be that people like us want to save as many things as we can because we do not like them to be wasted or destroyed when they have much life left in them for our use or to be passed to someone else. We like to fix things. Try not to overthink things and try to focus on the things you have in mind for that day. Try not to take on too much in one setting. Pace yourself. You have family and support - take advantage of this and see if it will not get you where you want to be. More than anything else - Pray without ceasing - ask for His help to lead you and show you the way and He will. Be patient and let Him guide you in His time, not our own. Best of luck.

I have more scissors that you had coffee whips. MOSTLY because i couldnt find one, id buy new ones. I hold on to stuff too. This is what I've learned so far. I feel calmer when a space is clean, decluttered. Taking on your whole house at once is overwhelming and causes me to pause. Setting a timer and seeing how much I can get done helps me. I'm always surprised how much better I feel after just 10 minutes. Making a list and crossing things off also helps. For me, I've done this both ways, cleaning the whole linen closet out and having all that stuff in my living room for a week was not the way to do it. Instead I'd rather take say a shelf, get rid of stuff, rearrange it and stop if I'm bored, tired or otherwise busy. With out a whole big mess. Life is a journey, just enjoy the ride!!! Love your videos, keep em coming.

Debi, this year I have a friend helping me with clutter accountability. I've had a few deaths in my family so we rented a dumpster. It would've been too overwhelming to fill it on my own but I had help. It does feel good to have the extra things gone and I've only regretted a few things but being able to find stuff I need has been a valuable time saver. I'm not done but so far it's been so good. 😊 BTW, Home Depot sells these gigantic bags, almost as big as a small dumpster that you can fill and call your town to pick it up. It's probably different in each town/city but worth looking into. 😉 its cheaper than renting a dumpster. Thanks for always inspiring us Debi! 🎉

Well as I got older- 62 now, I realized that I could not keep things that I've had for 20-30 years for that one day I would make it into something great. I should have done it in the last 20 years! Only so much time and energy and space, so I did let go of uncompleted projects and supplies that I no longer use. I will let someone else be the creator of something marvelous!

It can be overwhelming to some people to see all that they would like to accomplish on paper, but it keeps me in constant motion. I write things down as soon as I think of them. I have slipped and that's when I start to feel overwhelmed again and it's hard to get motivated without a clear direction. Once I start on the chosen item from the list I hyper-focus and complete it. Thanks for sharing & being real about the struggles! I also had developed a hoarding issue over the years… Some of it for me was the circumstance of moving from a very large fully decorated house to smaller apts…so I had stuff in multiple storage units for years & moved it all many times!🙊 Well eventually I am planning to go to tiny living maybe in a camper van I am building a little over a few years…so I’ve had to confront my craziness with dragging all that stuff around for so many years… I found some good minimalist RU-vidrs & listened a while to how they downsized to minimalist mindsets. I also became convicted by the Lord that I didn’t want to be bound by things… I found that I had some issues that are common among hoarders such as having some years of financial distress which caused me to feel like if I got rid of things I might never be able to afford to buy them or anything again…well that’s a lack of faith that God will provide whatever I need when I need it…so I am now free from that silly fear! My other hoarding issue was more of an issue common among artistic creatives (mine is particularly in the fashion/styling arts)…I love to thrift & create & style clothing! It’s always been my hobby. So now that I’m down to way less stuff than ever~my one excessive collection is clothing & accessories & fabric. Like~I still have a small storage unit full of mostly fashion items! I have to switch out each season!🙈 I’m giving myself some grace in the fashion arena & hoping to do some thing with it business wise eventually… I feel like it might be ok if you’re using your things for business & have a well organized overflow inventory storage unit. Otherwise I feel such a burden lifted by getting rid of so much stuff! Now when I see excessive amounts of things I feel the anxiety I used to have & am glad I let it all go! Don’t panic~it has taken me years to transition to having a minimal amount of stuff!
