Holy cow lady, do you just stare at yourself in amazement in the mirror each day? Cause you are amazing!!! Look how far you have come! You tackled sooooo many different aspects in this video that would’ve taken you much much longer a year ago. Also check you out doing all your organizing miss “I’m bad at organizing”. You have learned so much!

Excellent job! Now that things have a "home" where they belong, maybe a 5 or 10-minute tidy up before bed would help keep things clear. With the boys involved, get them into a routine of tidying before bed. Put the clothes in the hamper or closet, backpacks put away, food into the cabinets, candy in the drawer, etc. It would help them get into a routine of knowing where everything goes, help teach them to leave their space cleaned up daily, and it would help you start the next day with clear counters and floors. :)

Definitely were some places that needed attention, but I was so excited to see so little on the floor to deal with when you showed the kitchen at the beginning of this video. Proof that you are making progress and starting to create little habits! 👍

Your messes are becoming more and more like every day average family messes. It doesn’t look so hoarded anymore. I think one day you’ll be so disciplined you won’t just put things down anywhere, you’ll put them in their “homes.” Just keep practicing and it will become a natural habit.

The kitchen looks great, Ms. Heart! Since your pantry cabinet is low and deep, you might want to think about adding pull-out trays. That would allow you to see and organize the items in the back of the cabinet much easier.

@@ahoardersheart There's a video of rails that can be installed and the shelf can become a shelf that moves out. The cost isn't too expensive either. Just study out options on RU-vid and in stores. Think of vertical as well as space that comes out.

I'm in love with your cookbook nook!! you've moved into this era of just "cleaning inspo" videos this isn't even a hoarded kitchen, it's a real life kitchen! i'm also just amazed you have two kids and a full drawer of candy, they must have a really health relationship with food, when I was a kid I would've eaten it til I was sick!
@katiebellejohnson3442
@katiebellejohnson3442 3 года назад
This is fantastic!! You're doing better and better!! I know you didn't ask for advice, but I have 2 rules I think might help you--because they definitely help me: 1. "Do it now" if it takes 2 minutes or less because "later" is a concept--not a time. 2. Finish all the steps to a task. For example, take the organizer to the basement the moment you know it belongs there (perfect job for a child)--later is a concept and when that item is set down, it usually stays. The energy to put it in the right place is gone. When arriving home after shopping, the last step to that task is to put everything away properly (or "good enough"). When hand washing your dishes, the last step is to dry them instead of leaving them to drip dry in the sink. People always remark on how clean my home is--but that's because I follow these 2 rules and also clean my home (FlyLady!) on a schedule. For example, upon receiving any candy, I would have thrown it into the candy drawer. Then during kitchen week, I would remember to pull it all out and sort it. Once you start rolling through the weeks consistently, you'll see it work for you. I'm a perfectionist, so I have to remind myself that each part of the house has a plan, and that stops me from allowing things to pile up because they won't be "put away perfectly." I hope this helps. It's all said in love.

A couple years ago the floor collection by itself would have been the focus of the video and you would have had to put off going to the nook because of decluttering muscle fatigue. This time you hit it all AND reorganized the inside of cabinets as well. Sending love and support from Idaho!!! Hope you have a very happy Valentine's Day and your family showers you with lots of love. ❤❤❤

"Hubbys been great with helping me with the dishes" Please, please, please change the way you talk about household maintenance. When you phrase it like that, you communicate to your audience, yourself, your kids, and your husband that household chores are *your* job (i.e., the woman's job), and if the man in the house does anything, he is 'helping'. That's wrong. Your husband lives there. He is EQUALLY responsible for taking care of the household chores, ESPECIALLY since you are also working. He is simply doing his part in managing the household that he also lives in. That should be expected and standard, not notable and 'helping'. Maybe try saying: Hubby has been great at doing his part of taking care of the house. It seems like you have really, deeply internalized the idea that maintaining the household is your job (or at least that's what I am getting from the way you communicate about it). That's entirely normal since most of us women have been socialized to think that, but it *isn't* just your job. You are not the only one who lives there. And for your kids' sake, they really need to learn this so that they can be self-sufficient when they are on their own, and eventually become good contributing partners with their spouses.

When women "get a job outside of the home" they really have 3 jobs: wife, mother and some other job. Sometimes it's needed, but children don't keep. Mothers are needed at home to manage the home, but not alone. We're meant to "teach" our children how to manage their spaces they live in, but not to "do it all for them". That leads to children growing up and not knowing how to do basic things to take care of themselves and also not having good habits and routines. Dads come home and "need a break from providing". If a mother provides, she "needs a break too" when she comes home. I'm amazed with the energy that you have. Basically, I feel like if the lady of the house "needs to provide", then the man and the whole family "needs to help the whole family develop good responsible regular living habits and routines". When a man "is the head of the home", that means he will be the first one to help his wife with her basic responsibilities. I'm grateful that he helps you sometimes. Hopefully as the stuff lessens, you will feel more confident to have the family help you, and let go of some of the "need to hold on". As you gain confidence and trust in yourself, hopefully this will grow. It sounds like your men are willing, they just need to know "it's okay, and how it's okay to help you". When you realize how, let them know. I remember you saying it was okay for you to let your husband toss the magazine pile away in the Master Bedroom. That's a great step! Anyways, you're taking a lot of great steps! Keep up your good work!

I've always thought of head of household taking first dibs on duties and everyone else filling in around that. The servant leadership thing I guess. Interesting all of the different takes and ways people have. Personal responsibility is important.

I'm also changing my mindset. I was always a messy kid and my husband is a neat freak. I would feel a lot of guilt and try to clean the house and get overwhelmed because I didn't want to accept the help he was offering. I'm better now. He doesn't mind cleaning, it's more when I get overwhelmed easily and stop cleaning. We work hard on our communication and planning so I get less overwhelmed as we work together.

Some people see nothing wrong with being in the mindset of a 1950s type of home scenario. I see what you are saying because since the day my son was born I didn't want to put a male into the world that had that type of mindset. I didn't grow up in that type of household. Teamwork makes the dreamwork. My son is taught life skills. Everyone needs to learn life skills. You may live on your own. You will need to take care of yourself and your environment (home,etc). If you do have a spouse, roommate, etc. that is the one doing the majority of household skills they can always walk out, leave or pass away. And also it's not fair to think of the person that is doing the brunt of the work as the housekeeper, etc. I find it is hard to watch youtubers that do clean, declutter because the do speak the way that your are mentioning above. It make my blood boil and skin crawl. I wasn't put on this planet to serve a man.

I feel like "the real you" is coming out. You really do have some good organizing ideas. I loved seeing the cookbooks after the counter was cleared! If you and your family can get in the habit of putting things away daily, a routine for dishes and tidying up, then these spaces will sparkle more and more. I think the biggest result will be an increased sense of accomplishment and trust in yourself to maintain these spaces. Gradually you may realize that you have "favorite" kitchen items, and some things are used less. Then it may be time to let go of a few more things, when you're ready. I'm learning that there's a journey of decluttering, and then it's about developing and maintaining routines such that they become a habit. Your growing example is appreciated by many of us! I LOVE how you celebrated by making some Pumpkin Spice bread! I think your family will REALLY LIKE IT when you have a clean kitchen! My brother "discovered" that when he helps keep the kitchen his wife LOVES to cook ... and he REALLY likes that! So he learned, when he does the dishes, that puts his wife in the "mood" to cook more often ... and he likes what she does!

Or rotating chores (eg Tuesdays clear the catch-all areas; Fridays everyone has to make sure their laundry is in their basket else it won’t make the load... whatever suits your routines!). So much easier now things have homes for you AND the family to be involved in putting things away. Bear in mind 5 mins x 4 people is 20 mins of end-of-day tidying! :D teamwork makes the dreamwork... and you’re obviously doing something very right as a family for this kitchen to be the new definition of “chaos”! So happy for you ☺️

My husband and I have an agreement. Whenever we're moving (before - during and after (unpacking stage)) and we need the help of "less dishes" or we had another child, then we can use paper and plastic. Huge changes in life where we need "extra help" qualifies too. It's meant to be a temporary form of help. Otherwise, we use regular dishes.

Your kids need to be cleaning up after themselves. My younger son joined the Navy. Many young people can't keep a small space neat and clean. Start with, every time you leave the room, take 5 things with you. Tina

That was some good decluttering and organizing! I had thought before that the pantry on the other side is counter top height like this cupboard. I know you mentioned that your hubby made it - but was thinking that maybe the pantry should taller to help with more storage in your kitchen. Just a thought! Love your video's!!

That was brilliant, though I was a little confused that you put the batteries and the wine in the same cupboard. Do the batteries not have their own home? I thought they had their own drawer but that might have been someone else's kitchen.

No, generally, it's not common to use plastic utensils and paper plates/cups. I don't use them and don't know anyone who does. However, everyone has a preference. I've noticed that it's common to use decorative paper products for a child's birthday party. In fact, our church just had an event, and we had to buy paper plates, plastic utensils, and gloves because of covid. It felt like an unnecessary expense--but we felt obligated to do it.

Yes it is common to use them for casual gatherings (kids bday parties or similar) but most people in the states don't have them for daily use.

you would be suprised how many americans don't have a dishwasher or don't use their dishasher. a Dishwasher is sort of pointless for only two people, unless dong some big freezer cooking. It uses to much power and water to run ony half full . if you delay a couple days to get it full----well who wants dirty dishes sitting in the dishwasher for two day. these day no entertaing. for the big holiday meals i would use throw away for the before dinner , and real dishes for the meal. (famiy large so we did buffet) Plastic forks etx. ---no i never used them at home. Plastic and paper is handy for picnics and community potlucks. I know some women who use throw away stuff for entertaining. confuses me . but they may have a time srotage for cleanup or who knows. never question just be a cheerful guest. i do think decorative or theme cocktail napkins are fun. Alot of people do. i use cloth napkins for the main course. When the kids were small, for their little parties we used party throw away things. One thing even though i did not use plastic much in my home. i do remember at one point suddenly we had so many plastic forks and spoons. stray papercus and plates. I had been over stretching with community potlucks/picnics. . Once, everything was corralled in one place it was easier to never buy it again and just use up or donate. Some women get tripped up with trying to keep thngs matching or theme focused. I suspect most busy homes have an odd collection of throways.

Whenever we would order takeout food, utensils would automatically be included, even when there was an option to select not wanting any. I also would order some catered food for parties preCovid and disposal dishes, cutlery, and napkins were also provided. So even if you aren't activitely purchasing them, they do start to accumulate. I may follow Heart's lead and bring them into work.

@@katiebellejohnson3442 Thank you for pointing out that single use dishes are NOT the norm in the USA. Glad to hear that. I don´t mind the expense so much, but the environmental aspect :) But interesting you can still have events at church during covid times, this is much more restricted in Germany, like we are not allowed to not wear a mask during church service, so any gatherings involving food are forbidden right now (even last supper) same with singing!
