Well i got all my parts to to convert and just realized i only needed one esc as both motors in the tug are connected together, did a test run in the bath and all seems fine with it, be nice if i can get the lights to work too. great video and channel of yours.
Sounds great. I unsoldered the motors and put 2 escs in. But a single one is fine for operation. If you do this only one esc can have red servo wire connected to the receiver.
@@itz_EnderMC when I first converted mine I used the stock radio for sound and lights and my ‘proper’ radio to control the motors and rudders. After that I designed and printed a totally different (1/16 scale) cabin that I installed with lights sound etc on my hobby grade radio. In theory you could wire the individual LEDs (with the correct resistors) to RC switches and put in a marine sound unit (eg MTroniks) for engine sound and horn. The cheapest and easiest solution is just to run the boat with 2 transmitters😁
Hey, are the lights button controlled or switch controlled? If you wanted to turn the lights on for a long times, what would you do, if they are button controlled? Also, there is a smoke unit, right? what does it run on? Water, smoke oil fluid, etc.? Does the tug come with replacement smoke fuel, and how do you add more smoke fuel into the tug?
I was a bit lazy and left the existing RC in place for the functions (ie except motors and rudder), so that i need to use 2 transmitters at the same time if I want to work the lights and horn etc. I cant remember if it came with oil, I expect that the stuff used for the heng long tanks (ie not the hornby model railway stuff) prob works, but dont take my word for it as I havent tried this. To get fluid in, there is a plug under the cabin. just took a couple of pics: facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=224376754750757&id=100015353018714 . hope this helps.
I hav same boat... The stock transmitter is sucks, the range is sucks too... But it has a lot of channel for lights. I love it. Im planning to upgrade the boat to brushless, do u think that's necessary??? Which KV do u suggest??? Btw, i love ur DX transmitter, it must be very expensive.
I would leave the motor or even go higher wind / more poles (slower). I don't see much point in going brushless, as it is accurate slow running which in my opinion is best, plus it would be expensive. DX10t radio is brilliant - with the free firmware upgrades even better. Transmitter seems to be good value in Germany at the moment - look on eBay - about half the price they started out at, prob because of the DX18t (I don't need 18 channels or the expense of a receiver set up to cope with it). Here is a link to the cheapest one I could find : www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/361466208657
Thankyou, i have checked ur link, but it's too expensive to me. I think i will take Flysky FS-i6 transmitter (with telemetry). I love the form factor of DX10t anyway. Yeah i like the stock motor too, it's kinda slow but it's accurate. If i want some speed, i can use 3S battery with it. It wont burn the motor, but u wont need speed for this boat. I tow many things with this boat, some time the tow power isnt enough for me. my next upgrade will be Mixing the props, so the boat can turn better.
Hi , do you have a link to the speed controllers you used. I have a receiver and dx8 already this should surely do. Was there any other items required for the build?
The speed controllers are Mtroniks marine Viper 10's (www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mtroniks-Marine-Speed-Controllers-for-RC-Model-Boats-Plug-and-Play-Viper-Sport/232241213633?hash=item3612a7b0c1:m:mBx342SbLShfx9FhEjoTLwA:rk:4:pf:0). You would also need a standard servo for the rudder plus a battery (the original one should be fine, but will not last as long in the water). DX8 should be perfect (for the mixing of the esc's if you want to do that). I do feel a little embarrassed at the quality of these videos looking back! I might have to re-do them at some point! 🙂👍
RC Modders thanks for the speedy reply. I understand the hardware side of things not to bad but i havent worked with the radios in years on helicopters. In hoping to have the controls as you have them. But the flick a switch and have both vertical moving sticks on each motor along with the rudder on the left.
No problem, my pleasure! In practice I found having one mix with tank-like control on the elevator/aileron stick (on the right) and the other mix with both motors on the elevator to be the best. Try it both ways and see what you prefer. Good luck😀👍
Liam Gray 15's should fine, the Mtroniks have overload protection (good if one of the prop gets stuck in weeds) so you may need to be more careful - as I'm not sure what the stall amps on the tiny motors are, that's the only reason I went for the lower amps. I guess that in-line fuse would have a similar effect, but you might have to go wading if one blew! 😂
I haven't wanted to live in Southampton for pushing a decade (it's the people) however I am thinking about saving up for the Southampton tug boat, I was thinking about re-naming it Portsmouth as a sign of disrespect, however,, over the last six years Portsmouth's people have done the same as The Southampton's people, so I'd have to find somewhere neutral to name it after..... Perhaps I could name it the Zimbabwe tug or something?????
