In this video I build and review the new Hobby Plus CR18P Rock Van Builders Edition! This is a builders kit and includes all the components needed to build your own RTR Rock Van 1/18 crawler! In addition to assembling the builders kit, I install some upgrades to further enhance performance and add to the customized appearance. Awesome! I can't wait to get one! Instead of the wheel weights, I really wish they had included the metal shocks, or even better, the oil shocks! The wheel weights are gonna end up not being used by most of us. The paint looks great, the purple is so awesome! Great job with the build!

I started in January and my scx and fcx have ended up in pieces basically at the end of evey week. It’s really gotten me into doing hands on work, and I think I’m going to start doing more diy projects around my home

Amazing little kit. I hope they ship to Canada :). For overspray I use a q-tip with a little brake cleaner on it to clean up the unwanted bits. Then just wipe that with a little damp cloth gently, dry and then lines look sharp. Looks great by the way. Cheers

I've been itching to get a kit lately, this little van is pretty dang capable. I really wish they would use different battery plugs though you can't find anything with that connector, at least they added an adaptor for the servo

Looks fun! One of my real world off-road friends has a full size 4x4 van on 40’s, it too is way more capable than you would think. He got this thing off of a Van Halen Roady. Looks like it may be time to refresh your course. That might be a cool video as well.

I know I’m 10 months late but for masking try to buy the higher end 3m masking tape. Else than that try rubbing the sides of the tape a little to ensure that you are getting good contact from the adhesive

The body looks amazing!!! You should look into liquid mask and an airbrush if you are wanting to refine your lines a little better. There are some good videos on here that have a lot of info.

This kind of reminds me of a overlanding rig, I would love to see a company come out with a build or body like this but with a Sprinter van with all the scale accessories. Pretty neat. Also already said quite a bit but i'm surprised at the performance of this, didn't thing a big van would perform like it did.

Oh that’s right the brass rings are just for the stock rims I’m just running the stock tires and rims with the brass rings just in the front both Hunter and rock van and those brass Hex’s all four corners just on the hunter

I think it would’ve been better as a true kit or without the wheel weights that no one will use etc. Offered for a bit less and give people the option to choose their own upgrades. Maybe even electronics in case they wanna go brushless etc. I just feel like I’d almost be building an rtr that I paid more for. Besides the clear body. The van is a beast though. Love mine I put the fcx24 2 speed in it just to see if I could lol

Good points. They almost need a pro edition for the builders kit, a raw version that leaves more options for customization. This is a great kit for a newer builder I think. Super fun though!

I would recommend spraying the dark colors first. White should be the last color that you spray on the body. Thoughts?

Just a little tipa for painting Always spray first darker colors, in this way you 'il not need to mask again the brighter color

I can’t find any 1.0 rims to fit without the rim sits against the axle and when I tighten the wheel it wheel make the wheel not move.

This kit are really amazing with metal transmission and brass insert wheel. You not talk about bearing or bushing Adam, can you say me if this kit include all bearing or mix of bearing and bushing ?

This is an excellent video. The crawler performs great and looks great. It's a lot of fun to see a van performing well. The price is very good. I probably missed. Are the electronics waterproof?

Did you end up softening the shocks/ springs? I got the oil shocks for my CR24 and although they don’t articulate as well as the non dampened aluminium shocks, they feel 100x more planted and stable.

I did not. After running it on the course and the rocks I felt like they worked very well. They were smooth and the rig was extremely well planted. I was mighty impressed

Well I’m sorry to inform you but I have to quit watching you know just kidding 😁😁👍👍😎 Love my rock van, yeah the kit that is super cool I like , I got my order of the brass rings I put just the rings in the front rims on my rock van, And the other two just the front in my trail hunter, I do have the heavy brass wheel hexes all four corners on the hunter, I also put on inner Fender wells on the rock Van and the light kit ready love the light kit haven’t tested out the rock van yet with the brass rings in the front

The Capra is leaps and bounds ahead of the T-hunter as far as performance goes. It's in a completely different league, primarily because of it's overall size. It is very big, and that allows it to conquer big obstacles right out of the box.

Pure capabilities I think the FCX24. The portals and the drive train really shine with some minor supporting mods.

Rcawd makes a skid plate that works with the scx24 transmission. But the scx24 is so high geared, I wouldn’t recommend it in the rock van

It's a close competition I think. I almost think the rock van takes it. The ESC and slow crawl ability is certainly superior. Plus it has the portal axles. The van body still makes it a bit more tippy than the traxxas, but overall I really think it's a better performer.
