I’m a canoeist, but now retired due to advanced age and two bouts of cancer. I’m going to consider one of these Hobie craft. O, my age? Still going strong , born in1939.
Bud, you rock! I’m 64 and want one! I have BC’s Okanagan and it’s surrounding lake districts to play in. And yes, I’d get the motor, too! I’m a wimp. lol Peace
All of the promotional video for this model was shot in the ocean, including launching from beaches through breakers, so I have to think a lake would be easy.
This is friggin' awesome! They really put some thought into the design. The fact that you don't have to worry about snapping your rudder off in shallow water is so key. The seat and pedal controls look really comfortable also. Would love to take it out for a test ride and catch some fish. Have a good fellas, CHEERS!

The Lynx is built more durable than any other pedal kayak I have seen by using Ace-Tec construction. The Lynx has a foam core which prevents water from getting into the hull and it makes the deck incredibly rigid. Lynx is going to be very popular with kayak rental businesses due to stackable design, unsinkable design, performance, and DURABILITY! Yeah, not for me. It's an outstanding machinery however it defeats the purpose of the exercise. If I want to pedal, I take out my road bike and do a ride. If I want to row, I take out my kayak and start rowing. Different types of movements. Still nice to see it though :)
We test drove the lynx as well as three other hobie peddle kayaks at the same location. The Hobie lynx was outstanding. We loved everything about it. Lightweight, easy to peddle, turned quickly and easily, and has reverse. We added our name to the wait list for 2 lynx kayaks but may have to wait a couple months as they are currently not available in our market.
My favorite thing about kayaks are portability. I’ve taken mine from Kentucky to Florida, and all stops in between. I couldn’t afford to do that with a big boat.
This hits a target of being lightweight but having a high carrying capacity, which is great for the husky among us. Often getting a boat with 350lbs capacity means 12+ ft and 70+ lbs.
My husband and I went to Estero river out fitters and tested the Lynx and boy we were impressed the stability, speed and weight of this kayak is impressive we are currently trying to sell our Hobie outback’s only because we are looking to get in to the Lynx, it is light weight and easy to travel with. And out hobbies are 2021 models we love our outback’s but the Lynx is hard to turn away from because of the potential for easy travel and storage.
You can buy a secondhand motor yacht for less. Have you checked the amount of gold you need, to buy such a thing new? It's amazing! But not as you'd expect amazing to be. Are you all millionairs in the States?! You'd think capitalism needs lots of very poor people, to earn the money for the rich.
Why would anyone buy one of these for $3000? If it was only $800 to $1000 I could understand. You can get a real boat with a gas motor for less money. You can find 14’ boats with 9.9hp outboards in the 2k range all day long.
Titanic had bulkheads with empty air space.....Lynx has foam core. Titanic failed because enough water could enter the hull to sink it via failed bulkhead compartments. Lynx absolutely could never get enough water into the hull to sink it. It will always remain positively buoyant. However, I understand the skepticism and I certainly take notes from history. haha
If you don’t know how to setup an LLC or other business stuff just ask. We used ZenBusiness to get our LLC set up. Took maybe 30mins to apply. Cost was about $275. Then need to sign up with your state department of revenue for sales tax. I collect 6% sales tax for Florida and 0.5% tax for my county (6.5% total). I pay sales tax quarterly. Then you need to see if your city has a business tax receipt that has to be paid to conduct business in the area (mine was $76 annually). Shop around for insurance options. Those vary by location. Make up liability form. Website is important but best advertising is a free Google business listing which puts you on maps and allows folks to write reviews. Hope this message helps you out bro. 😊🤙
Nice boat, I want to see it preform in 2-3 foot waves. Not everywhere you go is glass smooth on the surface. Please repost with some wave action, and how it handles fishing in a slight chop. So much more to demo, the trolling motor overall performance, the anchor system, and demo how it sails. Demo transporting it with the wheel carrier system and carrying the boat by hand. Thank you.
The Hobie Lynx looks terrific and just what I’m after! It’s lightweight relative to the other Hobie Kayaks and I’m a girl, an old girl who needs to be able to lift it into and out of my car by myself without too much trouble. So I’m very excited to see this new model 😀
So I guess this would be good for someone who has lost the use of one or more of their arms. Who would want all of that crap on a little kayak when they could just paddle?
I live in Columbus, OH-IO but own a condo in Ft. Myers with limited space and this looks like the perfect option. Appreciate your insight on all of the options and details. I have looked at several other kayak's and now have decided on a Hobie Mirage Lynx. Thanks, team !
The folks nearby at Estero River Outfitters can take care of you. You could order from online dealer, but I'm a fan of supporting and shopping local when possible. Maybe I will see you on the water. You should take your new Lynx to Manatee Park in the winter months....lots of manatees and tons of fun. Also a road trip up to Silver Springs to paddle with monkeys and manatees is a must. As always, I never know how I would fit on/in things that are made for 'average' sized folks?! In the video, it was stated that the pedals are adjustable for different leg sizes?! How much adjustment? I'm 6' 5" tall and had a hell of a time finding a 'sit in' sea-kayak that would fit my 36" inseam. Please elaborate on the length of adjustment of the pedals and the height range of folks that this boat may fit. Thanks.
I’m pretty sure they have different ones that are more geared for fishing!! Because I was thinking the same thing that this thing would be perfect for fishing!!!
KAYAKDIY you just made my day! I want to kickoff my yak touring company after my sound engineering career of 44 years has ended. (Hearing loss). I have been a fan of Hobie Kayaks for years. Now I have 5 Pro Anglers of different varieties ready to begin but have many questions. Your answer to one of your subs has really given me a new desire to push ahead. I subscribed and liked. Now I will watch some more of your other videos. Thank You again God Bless!
So is a kayak unless you get in a really good first whack with your paddle. If a gator tips you over in a Kayak, he'll be happy to just take a big bite of your upper torso, maybe just remove your intestines. Kayak of any design is not a good choice for gator occupied water unless you have a death wish. You need some gunnel height.
I gave this video a thumbs up, not only to enter any future contests, but because this kayak has ALL of my favorite features. Stability, speed, durability, multi-functional built-in from the factory with things like a sail kit and a shade. Now if they can just add a system for a sleeping hammock I think I could live aboard it. :-) of course I'll need some of those sweet water shoes and those durable and good-looking sunglasses to make it a long-term liveaboard. Thank you for the great video!
As a Bigger Guy I wish the Payload was a little higher 350 when a guy is 250 leaves no room for gear - Bump it to 12' and get the payload up to 400 or more big People love kayaks too
I never used a kayak b4. I am 70 and would like to rent one and see if I can manage operating one. Lord's knows I need the exercise and human interaction with others. I am most impressed 2ith the peddle system. Thank you for the.video. It is a great review.
It is very easy leg movement. I think you could easily manage. If you think it will be difficult getting it in and out of the water look into their inflatable iTrek 9 pedal kayak… it is insanely lightweight and portable. This kayak in video is about the lightest and best pedal kayak in terms of “non-inflatables”.
I was looking at buying an angling kayak in the next couple of weeks and considered the pedal ones until I saw the price lol, might stick to the $700 one I found.
Find a used Old Town or Ocean Kayak PDL. They run $1500-1900 used and are awesome. Also look into a kayak like Kaku Zulu or Vibe Shearwater and add pedal drive later.
@@KayakDIY I will take a look!, looking to buy before my birthday trip next month. I started slowly looking in the used category. I want something that's a bit larger with extra storage options, durable and perfect for angling. Options to add a peddle drive or even a trolling motor later is a decent option. I noticed just the peddle drive systems themselves are pricey.
Hay guys wolfe hear I'm looking for kayak that I could use for halibut fishing and sports fishing for king salmon hear in Alaska to sponsor on my channel. Wear can I signe up to test you product?
Like with any company you would contact the Marketing manager of the company. Usually just message the company on social media or via website and ask for marketing team. They are not likely to approve sponsoring you with a kayak. You would need to likely join Hobie Fishing Team and I don’t even think you get to keep the kayak. I think they have a dealer lend you a kayak each year. Having the chance to work with Hobie takes lots of work. I don’t film any brands “exclusively” so it was unusual that they contacted me to film and give honest reviews of several of their new kayak models. . Hobie usually likes people to exclusively film their brand…like pro-staff.
I love everything about this. I have been following the progress of this type of craft for 25 years and particularly the deep cycle battery powered motor, which back in the day meany a really heavy car sized battery with less usable power over time than the one you showed. I am getting older now and it might seem strange but I think I would prefer to be slightly elevated above the board than you are on this. Had I ever ridden one of those bikes that you peddle lying down it may seem like second nature to jump on one of these. But the peddling idea is extremely attractive I must say. Did you tell us how much they were? ah yes up above US$2699.
I've seen several reviews and walk throughs on this new Hobie Lynx, but yours is the best I've seen yet. Very impressed with the maneuverability, stability and speed which I think are where the Hobies stand up against the competition. Love my Outback but this is a must have! Perfect second ride!!!
That was amazing. The stability is incredible. I just took my kids kayaking 12 miles. My little guy would of loved the peddling.. hell, so would I. Love the shade option too.
What’s wrong with pragmatic and efficient engineering? Simple but productive? It’s one of the best ways to do…Kiss, kiss it, keep it simple stupid excellent excellent excellent
All jokes aside, can you get a stronger seat? I am disabled, I have a really bad back. I can't ride a bike, heck I can barely walk 50 yards. In the seated position like that peddling forward I think I could do that. The problem is I am 300 pounds so I would need a stronger seat. I would use that for exercise and just being able to go ANYWHERE would be a major quality of life boost.
