Thanks for joining us for the Hobie Mirage Lynx walkthrough video. I'm going to go ahead and just take you through some of the great new features of the Hobie Lynx. The nature of this whole design provides a really unique experience for anyone who's been on it. I love that feeling of skimming across the top of the water and then maneuvering around in extremely tight spaces. The MirageDrive 180 with Kick-Up Fins is the way to get the Lynx around. It just has unsurpassed performance, patented technology that only Hobie can make. The Kick-Up Fins just allow me to get into those really shallow areas, especially with this flat bottom design, without worrying about damaging my Drive. The hull for the Lynx is ultra lightweight, so it accelerates quickly and turns on a dime. The sleek lines look really great and is extremely stable. The Lynx is really the perfect mix of deluxe features and a sleek minimal hull design. It's ultra light for transport, fast on the water and easy to maneuver.
The seating system on the Lynx is extremely comfortable. It's something that I have personally been on the water for hours upon hours and haven't felt any discomfort. I just love being in this seat all day long. The mesh features on it, allow it to be cool on warm days and dries quickly when it's wet. The seat back will also double as a beach chair when you remove it from the hull. The rotor system on the Lynx is buttery smooth, it has dual steering features we can put on either side of the seat and it has a large rotor blade to provide tons of authority. This authority gives you just unmatched maneuverability. And then for rudder operation up and down, it has a single pole up down line. Also, for easy transport the rotor system is removed without any tools so you can easily take it on and off the boat.
What makes the Lynx so light is its unique construction method. Using ACE-TEC technology, the Lynx is comprised of a EPS foam core with fiberglass and epoxy shell, and then on top of that, we have an ASA plastic skin. This gives us the ultimate in lightweight technology. If you're buying the Lynx to fish, we have a ton of Hobie accessories to allow you to do that. The ability to transport the Lynx is a really important feature, and we have a couple of things that kind of address that. One is the rear loading skid pads, which allow you to lean up the hull and easily load it on the rooftop of your car. We also have two scuppers for plug-in carts, and then the nature of the hull itself is stackable, so if you have more than one, they easily stack one on top.
The side carry handles located on each side allow for easy suitcase carrying, or for overhead loading. So going through the features of the Lynx from bow to stern, we have a large forward cargo area with Bungee tie downs. We have an accessory to mount, which allows you to add a Bimini or a Sail Kit. Located on each side we have two molded in inserts that allow for easy standup bar installation. Located behind that, we have a molded in track system for a lot of accessory upgrades. And located behind the drive, we have mounted an EVA pad for comfortable standing. Coming standard with the Lynx is also a cup holder, and this will be mounted, again, to the seat. The Lynx comes standard with the fish finder ready plate. Behind the seat we have a large cargo area with tie-down Bungees. We have two molded in scuppers for cart installation or a Livewell.
Located on each side there's an insert which allows for H-Rail installation. H-Rail utilizes our patented railing technology to adapt a variety of accessories. The Lynx comes Power-Pole ready, so we have four molded in inserts for easy installation, and a center line scupper, that is covered by this cap, that can be removed so that the pole inserts through the hole on the center line of the hull.

I've been saying it for a couple years now and hobie you finally have done it! When the Hobie Eclipse first came out I was truly in love with the watercraft. I have fished from it numerous times, as well as taking it on many trips. The best way I can explain is I wish Hobie made a Eclipse Pro Angler and I think they've done it!

I test paddled this boat a few weeks ago for only a few minutes. I'm not sure how it would do in the ocean but I have to say, it's awesome! Very stable and super fast acceleration. Also, there is virtually no flex in the hull- super solid. Can't wait to get in the Lynx again.

Referring to the original comment: EVERYTHING is a compromise, speed vs manuverability vs stability then considering weight of the yak, weight CAPACITY, "dry storage", (any kinda storage)... It's ALWAYS the same compromise. Until there is A TRULY "revolutionary" new material AND construction technique it's gonna remain a compromise....(a little more of one take away a little bit of the other) Having said ALL THAT... HOBIE does a great job of mixing and matching all those considerations in a large number of their vessels! 😁👍

I’m buying one of these this season for my bass fishing…I’ve been fishing out of an old Raddison for years and it’s just not working anymore…it’s a sail if there’s any wind whatsoever. I find myself paddling/maneuvering/avoiding 50-70% of the time instead of fishing. It’s just not built for serious bass fishermen. The thing I like about it is that it’s stupid light and rooftops with no effort…this seems like it fits the bill as an updated/modern replacement for that concept…especially when it comes to fishing.

@@Sanctified_EDC_Gear Can you explain this a bit please? What do you see as most important pros and cons of both Lynx and Compass? Thanks!
@alcidae
@alcidae 3 года назад
@@Shapingthoughts I’m not that guy but this thing is more like a SUP with a deck chair and it floats like a plank on top of the water. It’s probably great for water conditions where a paddle board would be safe but I wouldn’t take it out into open water with any kind of waves or boat wakes. The Compass is a more traditional kayak with a hull designed to handle a much larger variety of water conditions. So really it comes down to where you want to fish.
@Sanctified_EDC_Gear
@Sanctified_EDC_Gear 3 года назад
@@Shapingthoughts I Beleive the Lynx would be great as a clean and Simple Paddle Board/Kayak Hybrid for just getting out on the Water in a Very Minimalistic style. Or, as a Simple Flats Style / Shallow Water Fishing Platform. If you would like to have some extra storage and to have a better setup for Wiring any Electronics like Fish Finders and Battery Storage, then the Compass would be much better. I Do Not Like the fact that the Wires are Fully Exposed and you have to store your Battery in the back of the Beach Chair Style seat loose. They just put out a Video installing a fish finder and this seems Rediculous that there is No place for Storage or anywhere to Run the Wires. You can see that this Platform is Geared way more to being just a Flat Wide open Deck/Style Platform just like a Paddle Board with a Chair and yes of Course the Drive System. I'm not sure what you purchased your Compass for if it was for recreation only, For Fishing only or for a Combination of Both. Honestly if you just want to be out on the Water and enjoy yourself this new Lynx, I'm sure would be fine. At it seems to be Extremely light. This Lynx to me looks just like a Paddle Board with a Chair. You would have to invest another $500-$1,000.00 just to try to give you some storage for any gear and to store your Battery and to Run your wiring for Fish Finders and electronics. And that means you would have around $3,500.00 plus Dollars invested in basically a Paddle Board with a Drive System of course. I like Hobie, but i personally believe they are very expensive and the Competitors out there like Old Town and Native Watercraft are giving you So much more when your spending $2,500.00 plus Dollars. But this is only my opinion and may not be what's yours of course. Your Compass is a Great Little Kayak not a Paddle Board/Hybrid. And I also would feel much Safer further out or in Rough waters in your Compass then being out there in any type of Chop/Swells in the Lynk. The lynx too me is For Smooth / Glass style water and for shallow water since it doesn't ride very deep. Minus the Fins on the Drive System. I would not pay over $1,500 considering what you have to invest in this to give you storage. At that point buy a Hobie 360 or a Old town or a Native Watercraft and that would be a much better investment of $3,500 Plus dollars. I have a Problem with this Lynx being a $2,500.00 plus Paddle Board and not being a $2,500 plus kayak. I'm looking at the Value of what you / I would be buying and I do not see it. At least your Compass has a much better setup and Platform for Rcreation and Fishing. I could not justify spending that kind of Money on a Paddle Board with a Chair, save the money and buy a Paddle Board throw a Cooler on it have a seat and enjoy Creation. Your money was spent well on your Compass, and you can do and get so much more out of your investment in your Kayak then this. If it really peaks your interest and Money is No factor to you , I would just suggest give it some time and see what people think of it and how it holds up and see what people think of its Minamilstic design, which could be very good if that's what someone is into. I'm not sure if any of this helps you or not, or just confused you more. But I'm just giving you some different observations between your Compass or a traditional style of Kayak and this Hybrid Style Paddle Board / Peddle Board at the Cost of $2,500.00 Hobie is way overcharging on this for what you get. No matter what you think or feel I hope you enjoy yourself on the Water. In the End if your Happy and Pleased then go for what would fit you and lifestyle the most. Have a Very blessed Week 😎👍

It is very good. Nice and light and the rudder is a very clever design. Seat is fairly comfortable. However, be aware that, due to it's design, the hull is somewhat noisy at higher speeds and there is a lot of hull slap even in small waves. These are not design flaws but the result of design requirements to have a light, stable, wide and roomy hull. It would be nice to have it set up, or have instructions, for an anchor trolley. The stake-out system they have provided for is too expensive and will not work for me in bass fishing, where I am among trees at times.
