All this time, and I never knew you were in the Army. HOOAH!!!! I'm an Army vet as well. It's rough on the back for sure, but as of now I don't have any issues. Thank you for you're service Gene.
Funny that you post this today. Sold my Jackson Big Rig yesterday and ordered my PA14 just before I got the notice that you'd posted this video. Hope to have mine on the water this weekend. The t-bone is made by BooneDox. Best money I ever spent on an accessory for a big kayak.
Love the Yak videos Gene. I do most of my fishing from a Santa Cruz Raptor. One of these days I'll probably make the switch over to a Hobie pedal yak. Keep pumping out the awesome videos!
Go Dawgs! Enjoyed your video. Wow, what a nice, practical, stable kayak. I just moved to coastal Virginia and have been looking at boats for crabbing and in-shore light tackle fishing. This just might be what I need.
Great set up, Gene! I have a very similar set up, less the micro pole. I see questions here on why you have the PA and a boat. In addition to getting into small lakes and ponds where your bass boat can't go (size/power restrictions, lack of ramps), it's also very quick to load the kayak and go fishing in the evenings after work. I can load my yak in the p/u, and be on the water fishing at the local lake in 20 minutes. I have also caught my PB LM from the Pro Angler - it's an awesome fishing rig.
I was just online looking over Hobies and other fishing platforms. Your rig is awesome and I'm hoping to get into something similar sometime in the next year or so. Tight lines!
second video ive seen from flukemaster...I really enjoy them brother! you are very informative and put some real information out there that we can use. keep up the good work. hooah!
+Flukemaster Gene, I see signs of fall starting here in Pa. Leaves are just starting to dropping, and some aquatic vegetation has started to die back! Won't be long now. But I think it is going to be a short fall. Then a jump into winter! Ugh!
Gene that is a sick set up. I can't believe how far they have come with the new add on's. Any chance you will ever do a video on reel maintenance? Showing us the key areas to grease and lube the reels for spinning and bait casting? I just ordered all of that stuff and would love to see exactly where I need to place it without possibly damaging my reels.
+John Vogel I don't do my own spinning reels. A lot of things can go wrong with those but I do have a video on basic reel maintenance and there is a link to some videos by TackleJunky81 that goes into a lot more detail. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pa1xpXiSVWg.html
Ive got the same yak. Hopefully you made mods to your cart because the wheels will try and burn holes in the bottom. The cart was never redesigned to truly haul a PA. No matter how tight those rubber grommets are they will slide down. . I added PVC to mine and that keeps the yak high enough off the wheel when using the cart
Something to consider...insulating your front hatch, vids on youtube, super easy nice addition. I store raingear and first aid in dry bags in the hull, draw string up to tackle compartment. Tacklewebs are nice for extra storage on back and under seat. Hope we can get together and fish Chick again in the yaks, would be good times.
Nice. If you ever watch Marty Zoefinger's channel he has a PA 12 with the Micro anchor. He puts one of his GoPros on the end of the anchor for a great overhead view. Looks really cool.
We rarely get to see you on the yak. Im an avid kayak fisherman paddling a Wilderness systems Ride 115X. If oyur ever in Northern MN tow the hobie along and we can paddle out
Hi Flukemaster, beautiful kayak!! I sat in one today in the show room, all I can say is wow super comfortable seat. My question is how is it in saltwater, is it stable if there is a lot of chop and or wind? Also how is its primary stability and its secondary stability? I mean if you lean to the side does it feel like it wants to flip?
Awesome video FLukemaster! I just sold my boat and I'm going to be getting a Hobie soon, so this video is excellent! I tried looking up your battery and it's just a 12v 7 amp game feeder battery?
What did you think about the Jackson Big Rig at ICAST 16? I'm am going to buy a Kayak, boat is gone, RIP. I want a Hobie but would love to save money and buy the Big Rig and get the Micro Pole and a couple of new Rod and Reels. Are they comparable at all in size and stability.
i wish i could afford one i have been wanting one since I been thinking about fishing and that thing is amazing hopefully one day i can afford one but its a long way from today
Gene, I know you fish out of a Jackson now for the most part but I'm looking into the PA12 and I too have a bad back and the idea of rods being right next to you is good for me because I don't have to twist, BUT, how easy are the rods to get in and out. Thanks.
hey fluke I'm what you would call a pretty new angler and i have a spectrum dominator boat it was inexpensive and its not the nicest boat out there and it came with a fish finder but its a lowrance and it isn't the nicest so would you suggest investing in a nice one?
Hey Gene, what size battery are you using for the graph/pole? I have been looking at getting a separate battery for those on my little boat but didn't know how much power I'd need for a full day.
just purchased this very kayak... I'm so excited for Wednesday when I get it. what a beast this thing is! could I ask how you store it in the winter? I have a shed but should I have a tarp and railingto keep it off of the ground? great video and tight lines!
+Nionic I bought it from happy days boat centre in Ontario, Canada. it was a pro guy's kayak that he used for 6 months so it had a bunch of attachments. it was 4400 total with my new fish finder.
Lol @ bad back. That's the one thing they never told us we would receive. Love the videos btw. Do you think this would be an ok kayak for a beginner? I'm looking into getting one, but not sure if I should buy a cheapo one or save and get a nice one like this. Any advise would be much appreciated.
+nolidge1016 Personally I love my Hobie because I can fish while still moving the boat but get what you can afford and if you have a bad back make sure you get one with a seat that gets your butt higher than your feet.
I have a lowrance elite 4x hdi and I would love a how to video, what would be the difference in mine and the chirp you have? should they work overall the same?
Geeze dude! It must be nice! LOL.. Could you recommend a kayak that is safe and affordable for the weekend angler, but can be modified for bass fishing with the possibility of mounting a trolling motor?
Looking to purchase the 12 or 14 cant decide... with the t-bone does it help balance the load in the truck with a 6.5’ bed? Don’t want to get 12 and regret not going for the 14, overall they say 14 faster more maneuverable...
+Alexander Tricott......how does he make it "seem" like it wasn't worth it? All he said was he has back problems thanks to the Army. That doesn't mean he doesn't think it wasn't worth it, it means his damn back hurts. And maybe again it wasn't worth it. He's talking about Kayaks and fishing. Go watch some military videos if you want to know if it was worth it.
I have a feel free kayak highly suggest them, they are sweet. But Jean any suggestions on how to catch fish in them? I've been a lot lately and have only caught 1 bass. Do you suggest a fish finder? And I've fished lakes and rivers. Just no luck. Can't find any fish. I know it's summer but there has to be a chunk out there somewhere.
hooah!! that would be my ideal fishing craft. maybe a little side bit for my dog would be the only thing extra I could think of. hes 200 pounds though, so might not work out too well 😂
Mike, getting a kayak weight to rating ratio is pretty easy. Just subtract 25%. Most 12 ft angling kayaks are rated for 350. Subtract the 25% = 263 lbs for you and equipment. For this Yak, just take the front hatch off and put in a pad for your dog to sit. You're all setup.
Random question. Does izorline xxx in 20lb cast alright? I was wondering if I should get in 20 or 25 for t rigs in light/moderate cover on a MH rod. Thanks!
does your hrail tackle box fit up on the rails? mine doesnt. it's impossible to install on my pa 12 unless it's on the outside. the seats in the way on the inside
