Seriously??? Used power drill to tighten screws?? And you are missing the white nylon bushing inserts in your steering lines!! THAT is why the line is fraying. Wax won't do diddly!!!
Great adjustment video but as the kayak warms up, the boat "grows" and the line tightens, especially if you're in an unheated garage during freezing temps.
I believe to simply tighten the lines on an outback or passport it would be the same method. However, those lines may be using a different pulley system underneath which should not impact how you tighten them. It would become important if you decided to completely replace the lines.
Hello I just got a 2018 Hobie PA 14 and I’m having trouble with the steering. I can steer right but steering left doesn’t do anything. The rudder tension knob was clicked in, the wires on the steering drum is tight, and the rudder turns left/right when out of the water. But in the water I couldn’t go left. Is there something that I missed checking?
It doesn't... I just did not turn the handle to the extreme left in the video. What you need to focus on is when the handle is pointing straight ahead that so is the rudder.
Thanks. I'll try it straight ahead as you suggested. I read that I need to center it with the rudder control 15 degrees to the right but that didn't give equal rudder control each direction. Also had a lot of slack and a lot of play in the pin that holds the rudder but fixed that. It was impossible to hold a tack. Good tip about the wax too. I was wondering what all those homeless by the harbor launch were always melting. I guess they all must have kayaks too, cool.
