My first motorcycle was a super rat the engine came in a box when I first bought it, rebuilt it enjoyed it for my years. Thanks for the memories.

My friends always called them Slodaka because if your riding on a Elsinore or RM or Yamaha MX they were very slow in comparison. Still gives a good feeling of the early 70's better days

When I was about 12 (I had been riding/racing mini bikes since I was a tyke) I read about the Bonanza mini cycle in a mini bike magazine and talked my Dad into buying one...it was about 1969/1970 as I recall and it had telescopic forks and a swing arm with dual shocks in the rear and had a jack shaft chain drive and rather large/rounded mini bike type tires and was fitted with a Hodaka 100cc motorcycle engine (5 speed transmission), along with an open air cleaner and an expansion chamber...she would do almost 60 mph and would pull wheelies up to about 50 mph...to say she was a beast was an understatement.

Can’t tell you how encouraging it is that you have not only done this but you’ve passed this on to your Grandson. More of this kind of family activity would equal a lot less kids in trouble with all the evil that plagues society today.

Man i guy i went to Highschool had a 125 Sachs had a kinda springer front end chrome tank i liked them too but really wanted a Hodaka ended up with Yamaha 100 for 1st bike it was a 71 or 72 but had fun on it anyway What a great collection you have nothing like it

Thank you for sharing your collection. I decided to blow my entire savings on a Hodaka 90 right after they came out. I rode it off road for 3 years of high school, which caused my grade point average to suffer. Some stock parts came off and were replaced by much sturdier ones. The biggest customization was my rear shocks were from a Honda 250 Dream. The Malcolm Smith was the mechanic at the shop where I had my cylinder bored and bought replaceable parts (brake and clutch levers, etc.). Good times!

You have one great collection!! I owned a Super Combat but sold it and then bought a 250ED Thunderdog. It still runs but needs some work. I paid $795.00 for the Thunderdog in 1976 (brand new) Great bikes - if I could find parts the Thunderdog would be restored!!

Dude, I freaking love your Hodaka bike collection!! They are all truley a work of art. I have an Ace 100 motor. My Dad is trying to get some Hodaka parts off of afreind of his. Hopefully one day, we'll be able to build a Hodaka brand dirt bike together. That's one of my goals. I wouldn't trade any of your bikes for anything in the world!

You've built a fantastic museum to these iconic bikes . I think you have the most comprehensive collection of Hodaka's I've ever seen & everyone I've ever spoken to that owned one has always spoken of them with great fondness . I wanted to ask 2 questions . 1st is what is the displacement of that wonderful flat tracker that you built ? 2nd , is it true that Hodaka had a set-up for a 125cc motor to be put into a road racer that would do 100 mph ? TYVM for sharing your collection with us & I wish you & your grandson many years of safe & fun riding .

I have a 72 wambat 125 that my dad used to ice race on lake St. Clair in South East Michigan. Then it was parked for about 20 years, then he and I tore it down, every nut and bolt was cleaned, printed, and put back together. I still run it around until the magneto windings went South 😷. Where do you get your engine parts from. It's time for my hodaka to come full circle now that my dad has passed away I want to show my son's what Grandpa passed on to me, so it can be passed on to them.

Hi Percy The flat tracker is bored to the max and the ports are polished and ported as big as I could go without making the piston ring catch and brake. It has a reed valve and carb at 36mm with a wico high compression head and compression relieve valve. The kick start shaft has been removed and hole sealed for less weight and less resistance drag on the engine. It is putting about 18 hp when the stock rat was about 10 to 12 hp. On your second question I am not sure what cc the motor was I believe it to be a 125cc factory made 2 cylinder that was in a road race bike. It was never sold to the public The book of Hodakas from Jeff Hackett and Paul Stannard has a photo of the engine. I am building a 125cc combat wombat engine and putting it in a extended 100cc frame with a side hack for sidecar cross racing. It is motocross with a sidehack. thanks for your interest in my bikes. I'm currently working on a 1972 hodaka ace 100 model 92b+ and I'm trying to rebuild the motor but I can seem to find an engine rebuild manual anywhere
