The biggest mistake the Americans made here is giving Germany, UK and France time to mobilise and build up their industry and armies while wasting time invading Asia and the Siberian wasteland. The Soviet Union did a good job in pretty much acting as a buffer zone and slowing USA down with their massive armies until Germany build up its land army and UK started to match the US navy.

Never fight a land war in Asia.

I think one of the main reasons they lost was because by the 1950s the US tech boost was gone which was the main reason it was able to push so effectively. Without the better tech but the same sized army in a few years the worlds army and industry would be larger.

This is an incredible video and I appreciate it immensely, but in regards to the criticism of the USA regarding the terrain and the advantages comment. It seems weird to me especially since the USA's advances were only blunted once it got to regions with less harsh terrain and higher infrastructure levels which is ALSO the period that it lost the vast majority of its terrain. I get the point about the grind of manpower loss against enemies dug in in hellish terrain in low infrastructure states, but that doesn't seem to be what happened here if you actually look at the casualties, the vast vast majority of the casualties the USA sustains start in the Western Soviet Union counterattack of 1946 at roughly 4:12. What has obviously happened is the USA has taken too long to take out the major powers of the world and has given them enough time to moblise and the USA eventually finds itself massively outnumbered in almost everything with the only exceptions being the things the AI doesn't behaviourially like to produce like carriers and battleships. Not so much of a criticism but a diagnosis also is that, the fighting in North and South America and for a large % of Asia with the exception of anything involved in the Sino-Japanese war, are as we all know, underutilised HOI4 lands and therefore have large movement regions, having large movement regions means less operational maneueverability, which means you can cover a front with a much, much much smaller number of divisions. Anything that allows you to cover the front with fewer divisions means that all else being equal, both sides are more likely to fill up the combat width over the whole front, regardless of total amount of divisions available to both, either at the front or in reserve. Whenever full combat width utilisation is in use and you have crazy high % of your army in reserve or as active reinforcements in a combat, this disproportionally increases the important of having higher quality divisions. If you gave the USA 1945 tech like most of the comments seem to be assuming(which I admit you might not have done because you also kept the USA factory numbers at 1936 numbers which is surprising) then this would give the USA an immense advantage, which means that it would make sense that we start to see the tide turn whenever they get to regions of the world that have a little bit more love and care from the developers where it's not possible to always fill the combat width in every single combat because tiles are getting smaller and smaller. I propose a better option: Conquer North and South America just as the AI did. It's vital to defend yourself, it doesn't cost much in time or casualties because the AI didn't need long to do it, it's not that much of a distraction. Conquer Japan to knock out a major enemy naval producer. Navally blockade the sea region around Singapore to deny the world of major rubber stockpiles but don't bother invading because you don't want to advance and you don't want to pin down divisions defending the peninsula. Take out the island of Iceland to stage a naval invasion of Scotland to take out the UK as quickly as possible and use it to springboard onto mainland Europe where you take out France, Germany, Italy, Soviet Union etc. The USA in this situation is essentially 1941 Japan vs USA in the real timeline but actually even more so, they have a far far far superior military in terms of numbers, technology and equipment but their enemy has infinitely more people, farms, factories, mines, etc. The only thing the USA still has a majority % of world production on late in the game is going to be oil because of California and Texas. So with that in mind the USA should try to do what Japan did, try to knock out your enemy as time efficiently as possible before they can amass their industry and mobilise a military to first halt you and then turn you bacK. The USA essentially took all of the land that is the exact opposite of the land you want to take with this goal in mind(with the exception of Japan for naval production) it even invaded the Soviet Union from the East which means victory points and industry is super far away from initial invasion point.

USA AI seem programmed to WWII going japan, even if historically it prioritized europe. "fixing" UK & USA AI (or countries the need rely on large scale amphibious assault to open a front on a continent) is one of the oldest Hoi series challenges. on latest dev diaries they promissed implement portable harbours with level 10 port, i hope this help AI planning proper amphibious invasion.

Yeah I pretty much agreed with you. I was confused at first, but thought maybe if they could knock out the soviets first it would help. BUt getting grinded down in Asia like that, when they were the only one on their side more or less? Yeah, thats a recipe for disaster. They had almost conquered Asia, but other than the Soviets, the other major threats like the UK and Germany were safe to continue to grow stronger. The soviets may of been a threat, but if other nations lay dead and they stand more or less alone, they would be fighting a defensive war that may end up with them losing.

Odd Great Britain has a bigger navy in 1936 start, they would have demolished USA navy. I've taken out US as UK from Canada loads of times.
