HOI4 Challenge: Can a Soviet Intervention win the Spanish Civil War? 

I can be a simple man sometimes, I got the idea for this. Liked it and made it, not a bad thing at all though, once in a while you just need do something small instead of a world conquest. Doing little things that can give good benefits ingame is an something I'm a fan of.

Thinking about it, this is actually a brilliant strat for a Soviet run. It gains you plenty of experience (both air and army), basically guarantees you a Spanish puppet (which eventually breaks free admittedly, to which I always allow it to have its freedom in order to keep a foothold in Western Europe), upon which you can launch an offensive from Iberia into Vichy France/mainland France whilst pushing against the Axis from the Eastern front. Oh and before WW2 you can also invade Portugal and puppet it too

16:00 NSB update has broken some portraits like the one for Salvador Abascal, Mexican fascist leader, instead of him there is a generic portrait with his name. There was also a bug with Petain portrait, because of it Vichy could not do its focus tree but it was fixed by Paradox.

4:55 Enrique Lister actually flips to the Anarchist side when they rise up, so if you haven't done this focus yet, then the general you get if the republicans lose will change from Lister to Valentin Gonzales, interestingly enough.

10:59 Stalin taking Leon to end the Spanish Civil War... it's almost poetry, especially if the Soviets took it with ice axes. Or I guess because this happened in 1937 it'd be foreshadowing.

This is an unusual way of helping the Republicans in the civil war. I don't know if I ever saw someone doing this, I would actually never think of just declaring war on Nationalists. It is interesting but I don't think it is really worth it, you are raising world tension while you can win with just volunteers and instead go after Turkey or Poland for example without worrying about Allied interference.

I'll be honest you're pretty cool to watch you're fairly helpful with good knowledge in the country you're playing.

getting Portugal too is a powerful choice as it will essentially deny Germany all that tungsten when they go to war with you

I went Grand Battle Plan Soviet Union to get the No Step Back achievement, and I didn't lose a single tile... Turns out killing Romania and Turkey, then parking 240 infantry divisions from the Baltic to your puppet is a tiny bit OP.

Jose Dias is a communist leader for a SPA (or SPR) tag, but on historical this tag always belongs to nationalists and our yellow Spain is tag D01, that is why mr. Generico is in charge. If you puppet nationalists you will get Jose, if Spain was communist at the start of civil war and not democratic you would also get Jose. I also have an idea for a challenge: win Sino-Japanese war as Soviet volunteers. And not just expel Japan from mainland but cap them. I actually did it couple days ago, but was very lucky that my naval invasion from Shanghai actually launched after 2 month. But they had 2 armies staying home for some reason, so even with 7 volunteers I had to relentlessly savescum to eventually beat them.

I just send 6 mountaineer divisions and 90% of the time thats enough

If the goal was just to win the SCW, there was 0 point to building all those civs, you should have just built mils from the start

I managed to twice beat the franquists as trotsky without declaring war on them, just volunteers. My strat is to rush sevilla and cadiz, then try to cut on extremadura and next go up leon and la Coruña. I've tried a bunch of times tho, and I failed miserably all the runs but the first and second... so no guarantee

Why waste your energy micro-managing volunteers when you can just fight alongside with them for an easy win

Do you ever prepare to try and do the Holy Roman Empire vid again? It is impossible in the current ai or at least from my experience.

I did it alot of times before but It was never quite consistent. I think it isn't really worth it because they always declare independence

fundamentally its easy af, only thing that makes the cw hard is ai being braindead and not managing prepared offensives properly
