This tutorial will explain how to add and remove cosmetic tags and how they can be used to create formable nations.

Cool tutorial, but adding code to existing hoi4 files (including copies) can lend to the game being broken after an game update/adding another mod. Would recommend teaching people how make most of their mod files independent from existing hoi4 files. A mod only consisting of Cosmetic Tags can easily have most of its files be independent (thus being more "update proof" and having higher mod compatibility).

Amazing video, just like the others. One request: could you explain how to create new windows in order to implement mechanics in the game? For example the Parliaments of "The end of a new begining", it would be something quite innovative in the community. Thanks !

It works well for me, but I have some problems changing the flag with the cosmetic tag. I don’t if this is because of the name of the flag or something

Hi Iron, been watching your stuff for a while and I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on implementing border clashes to all nations in hoi. Great video but i have a problem. If i use cosmetic tags in my mod, are players needs dlc to play my mod? I need answer, because cosmetics tags come with the death and dishonor DLC. I don't want to include dlcs in mod

No, AFAIK cosmetic tags are available in all versions of the game.

For EUIV: Could you explain or make a video, how to change the flag of a colonial nation? They are so ugly. I tried it and put some flags with the colony-tag in the gfx-flags folder, but nothing happened. There must be an other way, I think.

Do cosmetic tags also change the focus trees, ideas, etc of a certain country? I wanted to replace certain ideas and focus trees without creating an entirely new country.

No, as mentioned in the video cosmetic tags still remain the country they were put in so no changes to a focus. This is not a different tag.

May I ask how to make the troops look like German troops ? The thing I have created a new construction but I want to make my troops look like German troops .

Everything works, except the color. It doesnt change. Edit: found the 2 issues: the colors do not get loaded if the file is not exactly named cosmetic.txt. AND another mod was overwriting the cosmetic.txt this in combination led to it not working. i hope my hours of debugging this help someone else

Very random but I would like to know how do you write to get a faction I put for example North_Atlantic_League and it doesn’t work all it gets is the North part any help would be nice

Whenever you input text that is not a localisation key you need to put the text in brackets, so for example create_faction = "North Atlantic League". Or if the name is very long its best to put it in a localisation key... for example create_faction = NORTH_ATLANTIC_LEAGUE_LOC and then put the real name in a localisation file.

I made a localisation, and asigned a color but it only changes the name but not the color and i dont know why.

ok i realized that the game does not load colors for cosmetic tags that are not inside cosmetic.txt. if you rename the file, the colors stop working and vice versa.

I can never get this to work for some reason. In the tooltips, it says "Colombia will be known as Colombia" for example and nothing changes.

found the anwser you need to add ideology like this what didnt work: XXX_BOL:0 "Parapeculivia" what worked: XXX_BOL_neutrality_DEF:0 "Parapeculivia" hope this helped some how

Oh victory points? Its in the history->states->*name of state*

Yes, create a flag for the cosmetic tag and it will be used instead of the country flag.

I wish I read this comment right after I watched the video because I spent 3h trying to make dynamic country work and failing just to have 1 damn flag replaced in civil war hahaha... In any case, thanks for the comment & reply, it helped me in the end.
