Thanks the shoutout. Umm you are not convincing me that I need a 400g plus shoe and especially a Hoka one which is a brand I have never generally found much love for in their shoes.
I received mine today, 15km with 05:20/km for the first ride out of the box and it felt fantastic, I love them. Really comfortable, really protective, fun ride with low heart rate. Surprise of the year for me so far. If you are a heavy runner, definitely give it a try.
Love the fit of hokas. Speedgoats, machs and carbon x are lines I’ve really enjoyed. Might give this a go when my invincible 2s have done their stint, if I can get them in a sale.
I think fit is very personal. I see a lot of people complaining about the fit of hokas but I’ve really liked the fit of the ones I’ve tried. Haven’t tried any NB running shoes so can’t comment on the rebel.
I actually love the elf heel.. its the best feature of any shoe that you could wear for everyday use.. I can slip in to all my elf heel shoes without untying the shoe or even need to use my hands. It just slips your feet in. This isnt even relaterad to running lol. Just a neat everyday feature
I dont get a running fit. But my work shoes are a pair of brooks hyperion tempo. I dont want a super tight fot when sliding around at work. For running i always tie ofcourse ❤
I've heard a rumour that Asics are releasing a Glideride Max. I put over 500 miles on my Glideride 3's so would love Asics to release another version 👍🏻
Would you think a heavy runner (such as myself) would get a lot of relief from using these as the daily beater? Currently using the saucony endorphin shift 3 and enjoying those for this purpose but really like the look of these.
@@EDDBUD Yh I’m rotating 3 pairs atm but they are all nearing 300 miles I know I can take them to 500 but after that I’m worried. 9.5s seem to be extinct now as well but I’ll keep searching 🐐
Hoka just seem to be throwing out random shoes left, right and centre and hoping they connect with runners, maybe they've missed with this one, I'll stick to my Superblast!
Thanks for this information about the new hoka Skyward. Like to EDDBUD. The Hoka carbon x3 is dead. The Hoka Bondi X is dead. Have a great solar eclipse day.
Great video as usual @EDDBUD! Over here in the US the shoe is priced at $224.99. That puts it against supertrainers like the Asics Superblast. I imagine the high price would potentially change your opinion of the shoe.
Missed out on my A-goal for Sheffield Half due to a ruddy typhoid blowing, however still PB'd managing to come in as 23rd finisher with 1:20:54. Think Rodders driving the van with Nerys cowering in the footwell. I think I'm in the same state as the van was after he'd given it back to Del 🤕
@@EDDBUD Ecclesall Road (miles 10-12) was like Call of the Wild 🐕, plenty of friendly looking dogs spectating to look at and take my mind off the pain. Great race though to be honest and loads of local support cheering you on! 😄
Great review Ed! I got the Hoka Cielo X1 recently, and that is my surprise shoe of the year (despite the horrendous laces). Hoka is now back on my radar, but this sounds like a more nerfed PXS V2, which I am gonna pass (The PXS V2 is heavy enough already).
Triumph 22 will be on my wish list. This one is a bit too heavy plus if I were to get a max stack shoe I'd probably opt for the Superblast 2 when it comes out if I had the money. Hoka are too expensive in Australia. I would be surprised if this isn't $320 or more when it releases here. Mind you Superblast is ridiculously expensive too. Thanks for the review Edd.
I did my first run in these day. I'm a heavy (and old) runner, so I try and do most of my runs in a shoe that gives me a bit of cushioning. Novablast 1-3 were great (4 not so much) and the Invincible Runs were great - but did't last more than 350km for me. It's a tall shoe and when you first put them on, you feel the height. I was surprised that I didn't feel that super soft bounce that the Invincible Runs have, it's much firmer and more controlled. Once you set off (and I'm a solid 6:30/km easy runner) the mechanics of the foams and plate kick in and I noticed I was running a little faster at a lower HR. I did about 9km in it and finished feeling pretty good. I take an 11 too and have a fairly wide foot. I found the toe box ok, but a little cramped in the middle, but not uncomfortable, but just aware of the shoe at the end of the run. Pretty happy with it, looking forward to breaking it in some more.
10 yesterday in them, you can beat them up and they're bouncy as hell. Heavy so good for training and I felt like I was running slow but my pace was faster than usual. I usually do running in bondi 7
Haven't used that one yet..I am really enjoying the Cielo x1 as a marathon training shoe..I know you did like the puma liberty and if you want a similar but better shoe try the Cielo road..it's what the liberty wishes it could be ..a longish ,canoe that should fit the Edd flippers..probably even more tim gross..😊
My nimbus 25s are well over 300 miles now, and I was thinking of the 26's. These sound like a potential replacement as an easy day/long shoe, especially at around £150
Appreciate the review and you shelling out your hard-earned Earth credits for these shoes. I will probably pass on these based on what you are saying, though they don't sound bad for a gen 1.
Weight is definitely a deal-breaker. I need size 11US, and frankly, weighing less than 160lbs and (luckily) with good biomechanics, my cushioning needs suggest a substantial saving in both money and overall weight ...
Great review thanks. I'd love to ask for your advice - I'm not a runner but work in a school so am on my feet all day. Have a pair of Clifton 9s & Nimbus 24s but want to upgrade. Do you recommend Nimbus 25, 26s or these Hokas for every day all day on my feet walking or anything else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Ed, what do you think about the ultra marathon distance like a 24 hour race or 100 miler. Do you think this would be a good shoe for that or is it just too heavy?
I really think most of the midsole look is more carrier foam than actual midsole thikness. Shoes are so deceiving. I think it's all part of scamming the public into thinking they are max cushion without being max cushion. Looks like it, but actually has a standard midsole thickness.
Why are shoe companies obsessed with super stack max cushioned shoes and stick in a carbon plate to help with propulsion to offset the weight a bit. Do we not want to feel the ground anymore and keep our feet asleep🤔
@@EDDBUD don’t get me wrong I like a cushioned shoe(triumph 21,more v4 and Superblast are my current stackers) but don’t quite get putting a carbon plate in a super stack highly cushioned shoe for the paces you mentioned reducing flexibility and making your feet lazy. Race/tempo shoes yes.
Mine arrived, fit is great, quality feel and feel stable compared to triumph 21 which are too soft with an unstable feel and 10mm is a bit much. Yet to run in mine as day they arrived chest infection started grhhhhh 😢 only bought as was sick of waiting for ASICS superblast.
@@EDDBUD even with the bad chest still managing the gym for S+C so not all bad just the cardio work this past week 🥲 4 new shoes added recently mainly on your advise, cheers budd 🤪
@@EDDBUDagree 🎉 lots of negative comments missing the point of this type of shoe, for long easy to steady miles these are great to add in the mix, mid height drop easier on the knees, more stable foam than max stack Saucony’s.
Hoka always makes ugly shoes--but this is really a new level of absurdity. It looks like the Fisher-Price My First Running Shoe in that juvenile primary color scheme.
@@EDDBUD Oh, I certainly agree with that. I always opt for colorful shoes (I don't think I've ever bought black). I just think these look like they might belong on a playground supervisor.
Stop reviewing these plated clown shoes Edd. You keep making me buy them. Not the same as Prime X v1 but a similar level of lunacy is on offer. I know opinion is divided but I think they rock
@@EDDBUD Ok, so ordered the Mach 6. Same weird oblong shape as other Hokas I’ve tried and sent back (Bondi and Clifton). Too narrow across forefoot too, can feel side digging into little toe area/side of foot (even Tak Sen, Sky Paris have more room and I certainly don’t have wide feet). So these are also getting sent back. My Ride 15s are way more comfortable as are my deviate nitro 2s (and tak sen, sky paris, altras etc). Shame, was hoping they’d be suitable!
@@EDDBUD definitely some great shoes.... I suppose it comes down to a matter of opinion but the only shoe that has been best for a specific 'type of run' has been the speedgoat. If you're spending that type of money on the rocket x2 you will pick the alphafly, vaporfly, endorphin elite, pro, the list goes on and on. If you're spending silly money for a shoe in the boat/ recovery category then we have the superblast, NB more 4, kinvara pro, prime x (all of which sound lighter and more versatile). So unless you're sent this one for free then you're likely to go to another brand. I'll call it a flop but time will tell. 👍
