Holcomb Valley Off-Roading in Big Bear | On The Trail

We've teamed up with our friends at Toyota USA to tackle some of the best off road terrain in Southern California. The Holcomb Valley trail system lies up in the mountains just across from Big Bear Lake and Big Bear mountain ski resort. Most people refer to this off road area as Big Bear, but it's technically Holcomb Valley. This area has a deep history, established during the California Gold Rush era of 1860 and it quickly gave birth to a town of over 1500 people named Belleville. While no gold remains to be found up in Bellevile, you can find some gold out on the trails.

Follow our off-road route as we take you through the visitors center, around 3N16, and 2N09, and into some pretty technical trails like Little John Bull. The trails go from fire roads to some light rock crawling, so a locking differential is a must in some places.
The vehicles we're taking out are a stock Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro and two Tacomas, one a TRD Pro and the other a TRD Off Road. All of our trucks featured Nitto Tires and they all did amazingly well, from stock form to a fully built overland spec Tacoma by Eibach North America.
We walk you through everything you need to know to go off roading in the Big Bear mountains through the Holcomb Valley.

The new Toyota's are junk....whining rear differentials -- time bomb ....and the engines ping, burn oil and DIE going up steep hills !....another time bomb.....buy an AMERICAN Ranger ...superior truck ! google / youtube these issues if you don't believe me...

Man the voodoo blue trd pros just look so damn good. At first the color was alittle too loud and in your face for me since I’m more a blacked out kinda guy but it has grown on me so much. It’s def become my favorite color out of all the trd pro special finishes. Still love my blacked out 4runner but out of all the special trd pro colors the voodoo blue takes the cake for me.

Driving Line nah, Holcomb creek just let us out at fawnskin and we had half the day left so we drove to the backside of the mountain and did Heartbreak Ridge. Super cool trail and at the top you can see all the way to the desert. We were in a heavily modified 2017 Rubicon.

Exactly which trail is this? Holcomb valley or holcomb creek? 2 different thing right? Not familiar on big bear trail and wanted to do easy trail for beginners

That definitely isn't Holcomb Creek. If you think anything on that trail looked hard or intimidating you are not ready for Holcomb Creek. A stock vehicle could make it through but it probably wouldn't look the same once you finish the trail

2:10 you get extra traction longways of the tire, not sideways when you deflate tires. Common misconception :P

Well Done Video! I was curious if I could run that trail without rockers. I noticed that your TRD does not have the side steps which mine currently does. Do you think that would be an issue for me? Thanks!

In dry conditions, no locker is needed on these trails. I only engaged it because it was wet out, and a good opportunity to show how it works in your favor in these conditions.

Since I retired several years ago and been out of Ca (thank goodness) it sounds like the stupid adventure pass is back in existence? It was in and out several times over the years, C4WDA and CORVA fought it many times. So the question is, how much does this extra tax cost now? Good vid of the area, I lived in Oak Hills for over 20 years great local area to wheel in. John Bull is especially interesting with about 12-18” of snow!

I live in CA and I agree with you. There’s a tax for everything but people are trashing the mountains and trails. Its really sad. Hopefully this $5 goes to education and cleanup.
