I saw it too. I’m ok with updating G&S for modern audiences, but not at the expense of the flow of music or snappy lyrics that is its hallmark. Despite the talent of the players, the production used overly elongated bits and excessive slapstick that was distracting and took away from the overall pace of the show. The Joseph Papp production is the best, in my opinion. It struck the perfect balance.
