The really tragic thing is that Brandon made Hodor experience his own death. He linked Hodor to his past self whilst he was dying. That's what sent him mad, he lived through his own death at the hands of ice zombies.
To clarify, the Children were at war with the First Men not the Andals. They joined forces with the First Men to fight the White Walkers. Basically their own weapons turned against them. Brandon the Builder built the Wall with the help of the Children and the giants. The Andals invaded later.
Ni doubt they do euron so dirty in the show.... I hope the Octobers at least end up listening to the audio books because as much as this show did a wonderful job they left out so many interesting and crazy things from the books
@@kennyhudson9201 Balon dies and Asha spots Euron's ship in the harbour so people know he is around before he shows up, his entrance is much more badass too, I don't know what you don't get
@@karolswieboda1781 I didn't see it as badass. It was cheesy. But I accept to each their own. He's still out of nowhere. How many books and pages passed before he mattered?
@@TheAbominableDrFaustus What so good about him? He's a pirate king and nothing more. He may or may not possess a Macguffin but that doesn't make him interesting.
@@gunkulator1 Euron in the books is one of the most interesting characters in ASOIAF, you might have a different opinion but a character doesn't always have to be grey to be appealing.
@@kanadgautam4062 So then what's interesting about him? He's a pirate who does a bunch of pirate things that so far are only tangentially related to everything else in the books. I guess if you think pirates are cool that's your thing but really he's little more than a big thug with a boat.
The Hodor reveal broke everyone who was invested in this for a while. Book readers since 96, the gentle giant on screen since episode 4 of the series. I remember letting the credits roll and just staring at a black screen in silence for like the next 15 minutes
An alternate viewing of things is that Arya is the villain here. She came to the Faceless Men begging for help and offering to join. They take her in and teach her everything. And she systematically ignores every rule, repeatedly, refuses to do what's asked of her in return, and effectively sabotages every mission she's ever sent on. It's always a bit impressive how easily right and wrong can be defined just by who we get told the Hero is, no matter what the motives or actions of any of the characters are. They're Right, 'cuz they're the Hero. Whoever's opposing them (or even not _opposing_, just not actively spending every waking moment _helping_) is Obviously Wrong And Evil. It's kinda wild when you think of it.
The Faceless Men would be hard to justify even if they were the main characters, considering that they are available to the highest (or at least first) bidder despite all their high-flown religious sophistry. They are just glorified hit men. Not that you can't follow a hit man's story, but I don't think they'd automatically be the hero because of that. I'm not saying you don't have a point about point of view. There are definitely things in everyone's story in this show (or almost everyone) that makes them a mix of things. A lot of the time they are that even before we get to the opposite POV, though.
The Faceless Men along with Mellisandre's Smoke Babies are too OP. A half dozen of them would change everything. I think GRRM realized this and so sought to nerf them.
@@gunkulator1 I agree, nothing Martin writes matters, because he will just change it despite all the foreshadowing and set up. He should deal with what he wrote instead of changing it and making all the setup meaningless. But that's too much to expect from a soap opera writer.
@@DukeJimbob I read the novels starting in 1999, and I agree with you. I don't get other book readers. I think most just are mad that the best scene in the entire series happened on the show, and not in the books. Also, most just don't want an ending so they are mad anytime the show gives resolution to any plots. It's weird.
Hodor episode 6x5. everyone was talking about it for a week and more. the big mystery of what happen to him. insane. Miss October always with the reaction that we expect and Mr. October dead inside xD
@@peo4989 They do, When you visit the HBO's cast list for the show? He's playing the same character only. But yes, he was never referred to by his name even once in the show.
The tragedy behind Hodor's story is finally revealed. When this episode first aired, there was a large amount of different "Hodor" doorstops being sold.
You guys are right. Littlefinger is trying to divide Jon and Sansa because Littlefinger knows Jon would whoop his ass! Jon is just like Ned, he has no time for his bullshit!
LF giving Sansa to the Boltons did not work out how he hoped. He made a pact with Roose and now he's stuck with Ramsey instead. He was not aware of what a sadist Ramsey was or he would not have made the deal. Roose kept his degenerate son a secret from everyone. The Starks were their closest neighbors and neither they nor Theon knew about him.
The idea that the "ink is dry" is the old three-eyed raven trying to keep Bran from messing with it since the implications can be huge if you aren't extremely careful. But we've seen twice now that Bran can in fact affect those he's encountering in the past (young Ned hearing him call out is the other). In this particular situation, Bran is in the past when he's told to listen to his friend. Rather than coming back to the present to warg into Hodor, he wargs into past Hodor. Since it's the same mind, it works. But, Bran serves as a conduit between past and present Hodor. The experience of having your mind connected directly to some future version of yourself is traumatic and adding you witnessing your own death on top of that, even moreso. This is why Hodor's brain fries and he starts saying "Hodor." all the time.
Gonna miss Hodor. He had some of the best lines in the whole show. Like that time they were in the windmill and he got scared and said "Hodor." Or when they were at the abandoned Nightfort and he looked down a well and yelled "HODOR!" Such a good character. RIP Wylis.
It's not the TV settings.....there are several upcoming episodes that are practically filmed in the dark. It was a choice by the directors - some like it, some hate it. Just be aware
The reveal of the effect Bran caused by warging from the past to Hodor in the future, causing Hodor to witness his own future death, and the reality that that Trauma caused Hodor to become non communicative other than the mispronounced "hold the door" was one of the most poignantly tragic things I ever saw. Tremendous reveal and one of the most emotionally sad deaths in the show imo.
At this point the show is still good entertainment wise, but the whole thing with the creation of the white walkers is most likely not book accurate. There are a lot of things that will be this way going forward. Don't wanna spoil anything incase you do get into the books but just know it's WAY deeper.
But in the books we don't know anything about the white walkers, it's been 5 books and we only hear from them, honestly, at this point there is nothing interesting about them in the books, GRRM must really reconsidere what he is doing with them.
If you recall in the second or third episode there's a scene with Bran and Hodor where Bran learns that Hodor could talk and was a normal boy and ask him what happened to which Hodor replies with a sarcastic "Hodor" implying you did this to me. He always knew how he would die.
Can someone help me understand, was Hodor's seizure moment induced by Bran wharging into him or the original 3-eyed Raven since it occurred long before Bran even exiisted?
Listen… Yall laughing at Euron’s dumbass is exactly how the fandom feels about his whole storyline. Yall are good 😂😂 I’m glad yall at least had that happy moment.
Remember how GoT builds characters in the series. Watch a few more episodes with Euron in them. Begin to realise how evil he is. How big an ego he has. How much damage he can cause. And how much you'll get to hate him. THEN ridicule and laugh at him.
Euron is a damn clown in the show. I don't think too many will be upset with you for laughing at him. Also I'd definitely recommend listening to the audiobooks because there's a lot of good stuff and great characters that never made it into the show, just be prepared because the narrator reads slowly (I listened on 2x speed with no problem), pronounces stuff weird (he pronounces Brienne as bry-EEN, Petyr as pih-TEER, and frequently calls Joffrey "Jeffrey"), and has like 4 total voices for all the characters so a lot of them sound the same. Otherwise I think they're great and very worth a listen
I’ve been watching your GoT journey and been loving it, but it kinda upset me to see you guys making a mockery of using coke, as a former addict I didn’t find that amusing. No hate whatsoever, i just hope y’all are more mindful of those things in the future, mental health is important and some people are still suffering..All love.💕
No worries, its ok to make fun of the butchered character of Euron. He comes out of nowhere and behaves like an evil cartoonish disney villain. Not to spoil but.. He/it gets way worse unfortunately. Its very sad though, because Euron in the books is such an interesting character. Yes, he is evil, but not like he is in the show. Hes extremely mysterious, has been to places all over the world, gathering mysterious trinkets. All with his mute crew. None knows his true plans, and he potentially has some trinkets that has can seriously disrupt the.. Plot. Totally different from the show. Unfortunately, after this season he blends into the (shit) show quite well. Season 7 and 8 is... dissapointing to say the least. They absolutely ruined this awesome show.
Totally agree Euron was rushed! But honestly I’m kind of glad because I just don’t think the directors ever made the Iron Islands interesting or intriguing enough to carry a large section of a season. Also I felt the same way…like who the hell is this guy? And I also made fun of it. The only reason I knew who he was was because I had started reading the books…wait I sort of lied I listen to the audio books after attempting to read the books and finding myself rereading a page about food or tits 20’ times thinking I was missing some important detail. But my knowledge of Euron going into this season was made up of hearing him mentioned a few times in the first 2 books I just started the third. And thank god for a non-spoiler RU-vid channel who filled me in on everything I should know going into a season of Game of Thrones.
You guys were so right about the Euron storyline. It just came out of nowhere and was totally unrealistic. The writing for the character was horrible. In the books Euron is straight up whacko. He is very sinister. He is going to have a huge impact on the story going forward. Good for you guys calling out all the stuff they pulled out of their backsides.
Interestingly, your instincts about Euron Greyjoy are correct. He turned out to be one of the most poorly thought out villains in the show one of the many reasons why it went downhill (especially in the last two seasons). His book counterpart is much more interesting and sinister, and a completely different type of villain.
I think you guys are already starting to notice the drop in writing quality since the show separated from the books. I honestly think Euron (Theon's uncle) is such a stupid character and they make all of his scene too silly.
I was skeptical of the double episode reactions, but they have been really good. But, episode 9+10 are supersized and important you may want to go back to single episodes on those or even break those into two each to cover all the storylines.
Littlefinger on the show is probably my biggest disappointment. Everyone acknowledges that he can't be trusted, that he's a sneaky bastard and yet he's still alive and people keep dealing with him. In the books he's just a smiley friendly dude that got where he his with his wits. He's always willing to help, you can always go to him for advice, he's everyone's go-to guy and people trust him implicitly. So it confuses me why Littlefinger on the show is still alive😭
we can only assume, he is alive in the show, because he is useful to other lords. He always find a way to make things done... The major issue is that despite knowing that he is not to be trusted, they always trust him blindly. Aside from Cersei (which she doesnt even trust on her on shadow) and Olenna (who openly threat him to kill him) the rest just goes with it.
@@HeisenStark13 He doesn't, but he does tell Sansa how chaos can sometimes be a benefit. So the "chaos is a ladder" monologue to Varys was probably expanded upon from that conversation with Sansa, as a way to build up the rivalry between Littlefinger & Varys and the difference in how they view the realm.
Mace would have shined with the Mummers. Great Shakespearean voice and manner. Blatant overacting that would have excelled on stage. Arya's 2nd chance took her to a play that has everything to do with her father's fate. This was no coincidence. Arya finding empathy for Cersei? Arya finding her true self. Love Arya's reflection in the mirror. Wonderful symbolism.
The purpose of the Euron crowning is to show the weakness of the iron born. They stand for nothing. They are easily swayed, just like Theon was at winterfell.
You can make fun of Euron all day haha he is a very silly and dumb character in the show. In the books, however, he is straight up the darkest characters so far
I haven't gotten that far in the video yet to see if it clicks for you but the children of the forest created the white walkers to fight the first men. But they went out of control and threatened both parties so they teamed up to fight them. The first men ended up following the same gods as the children and that is why so many people in the North worship the old gods. Its also why things like warging and green sight are really only seen in northerners which were powers that the children of the forest had
It's okay Mrs.! I cried too for Hodor. :( Things look dark I know. But I can't wait for you all to see the conclusion of the season! It gets even more wild
Euron in the books…is built up with whispers and stories…before he makes his appearance…and in the books at least he aint no joke….dudes been everywhere knows things …he is a serious threat
Dorne was the start of the debacle. Euron and the Greyjoys are the debacle in full swing. This is where you can clearly notice you are missing A LOT of the book story.
But also there's more good in this season than bad. Nearly every episode was amazing. They couldn't follow up to it.. But it's still the truth about this season.
Dorne in the books was much worse. Euron is also just a pirate king in the book and nothing else. He just does pirate things and is otherwise not interesting at all.
Sansa lied to John about how she learned about the Blackfish cus she found out when she met with Little Finger, not from a raven Ramsey received here she left. She doesn’t want John knowing she met up w him in Molestown.
Kristian is a buddy of mine and I told him that his acting broke me and he just laughed at me 😂😂 He’s also a fantastic DJ if you haven’t heard his stuff
It's a narrative mistake to be adding major characters at this point in the series. What's worse is there even more of them in the books and their plots are the worst kind of soap operaish stuff.
@@gunkulator1 It's refreshing to meet another person not brainwashed by Martin. The story has been nothing but meaningless meandering and plot wheel spinning since the end of Storm.
I know, it is true that some storylines like the Greyjoy one and the one from Dorne (mostly this one) are more interesting in the books, however, I think that as well, just after three long books which where adapted to 4 seasons of the show, GRRM introduces so many more storylines, that for me made the last two books less enjoyable than the previous ones.... He could at least, instead of introducing plenty characters and plots, he could have given characters we already knew a POV, like he did with Cersei and Brianne, for example.
"Hodor!" While we are moving beyond what has been published the Showrunners are not completely in the dark. They had conversations with George regarding at least the outline where all this was going. Euron has arrogance and narcissism to spare. That's for sure. RIP Willis 🪦
I think that's the main difference between the arly seasons and the late seasons: The early seasons were only funny when they were supposed to be, and were serious when they were supposed to be. Later on, sometimes the supposedly serious scenes were just funny, and the supposedly funny scenes weren't funny. Every time I watch throught this show, I realise more and more that it got to a point where you were less and less sure whether you were supposed to be laughing or taking it dead seriously.
