It's called a Bootstrap Paradox. Basically a theoretical paradox of time travel that occurs when an object or piece of information sent back in time becomes trapped within an infinite cause-effect loop in which the item no longer has a discernible point of origin, and is said to be “uncaused” or “self-created”.

The wolves always symbolize what happens to the Starks. Robb was trapped and executed, so was his wolf. Sansa gave herself to the Lannisters by lying about what happened with Joffrey, so her wolf's life was given to the Lannisters. Bran's wolf died in the cave because Bran died in that cave, in a sense. That's when he became the 3-eyed raven and was no longer a Stark. Arya's wolf is lost in the wilderness because so is Arya, travelling the world as "no one."

Hodor was always meant to be Hodor. Bran is quite possibly the most powerful warg in history. Hence his ability to travel. But what makes him different from the former 3 eyed Raven is, while the old guy can visit the past, Bran can interact with the past. In the scene he's looking at Willis when he hears Mira telling him to warg into Hodor and in his desperation to do so he taps into the mind of Willis and uses him to control Hodor but upon doing so he links the two and it's because of Hodors resolve to protect Bran and Mira, his sole thought is to "Hold the door" which unfortunately but inevitably breaks the mind of young Hodor. This whole turn of events is LITERALLY fate happening in real time.

You're reading to much into it lmao, cringe. Any Warg can travel, he just happens to be the 3 Eyed Raven so he can see into the past. David Jones I think he got the idea when Bran called out to Ned and Ned heard him. I think that particular part of the scene was put there specifically to sort of give us an idea of what Bran is capable of for this episode and the three eyed raven probably prepared for it to go down like that.
@patrykm7342

For me its simply - 3eyed raven is manipulating Bran. Old nany said to Bran, and it was first Bran dialog after coma. "Dont listen to them. They are all liars" when Bran was woke up by raven squarking at the window. We know that the end will be braincrusher, who knows, maybe Night King should meet Bran , maybe 3eyed raven and even Benjen are under control of something, that dont want to let it happend. Both are death, but still normally talking, they are not a wight.

There was a time when some young boys were castrated to preserve their 'angelic' voices in choir, as women were not permited to join. Bran was warged into Hodor when he went back, and then he warged into Hodor (Willis) when he was younger at the same time. I have a theory concerning the Red Priests of the Lord of Light. The priests only seem to be able to read your mind when they are near by you- within arm's reach. And if you notice, the gem around their neck glows softly during all of this. - Melissandre said "You know nothing John Snow." But only after she got him to start thinking about Ygritte during their conversation. She also got pretty close to Jon with that necklace before her creepy line. - The red priestess that talks to Varis spouts a bunch of distracting bullshit while slowly creeping closer and closer to him. She gets pretty close before freaking him out with his own castration story. I think that each of the priests reaches a level of trust within their cult that gives them the right to have thier own magic necklace. Fooling people with manipulation, drugs, sleight of hand, and other tricks is impressive. But straight up reading your mind is some of that rare, subtle Thrones magic.

It's clear (from the information only up to this episode) that Bran isn't just having visions; he's actually moving through time and can change the past. But like the 3 Eyed Raven said, "the past is written, the ink is dry." So anything he could change he already has (or eventually will). I still think its said we will never get to see the Children of the Forest at the full extent of their power. At this point magic was still only returning to the world. The firebombs are just minute forms of magic compared to what they had in the past. In the past the children could collapse continents and bring forth great floods using the old magic. There used to be an old land bridge from Essos to Westeros that the first men used to reach the continent and in their war the Children tore the land asunder to stop more coming to their land. When the Andals came and declared war on the first men and the Children, they brought a flood that separated the south from the north, creating Moat Cailin which is still guarded by the Reeds (Jojen and Meera’s family) to this day (they’re rumoured to be the closest direct descendants of crossbreeds between the first men and the Children which is why they’re all so small and magically aware). If the Children were able to survive that attack they possibly could have returned to their former strengths and worked to bring back their race and fight against the white walkers again beside men. With the death of Leaf and her friends the Children of the Forest are now extinct. Only the minds of their ancestors exist now within the Weirwoods in the north.

If you dont have time to read like 10 books though theres an easier way to learn all the lore by watching the lore videos that come with every season boxset. Theyre basically about an hour per season of actors from the show narrating old stories told in the books with drawn concept art and stuff providing visual aids

It's not all that crazy and it shouldn't confuse you. What happens in this episode is based on the idea of traditional time travel, spacetime is linear. It's just one timeline. So when people travel into the past any little thing they change alters the present and future. So then a loop is created in which things in the past happened in order for the present and future to exist but then at the same time the stuff in the past happened because of the future. In other words the past had to happen in order for the future to exist, but the past only happened because of the future exists.

He went back in time to make Hodor’s entire life purpose to hold the door in order to save their lives in that moment because that needed to happen in order to become the king... Hodor was a sacrifice and therefor one of the most important characters. Insane

Bran doesnt look into the past he travels into the past so him trying to warg into hodor led him to warg both future and past hodor
@WC2hands
@WC2hands 5 лет назад
His name was Wylis. I think that Hodor as a kid gets stuck saying Hodor for the rest of his life because of his link to the future, in the past. I believe that’s why his sentence gets choppier every time he say it. I believe it because the fear & panic he endured mentally in the moment he held the door kept growing to the point his thoughts became incoherent, not to mention the fact that he was getting ripped apart. I believe that connect caused the death of his future not just his future self development, because his being connected to his future death kill a part of his past/present self. Like the knowledge & opportunity of seeing into the future forcefully (bcuz Bran did that shit when he looked into his eyes, while hearing the present warnings & yells) was to great of a power he had no business messing with, because it wasn’t his power to use. Basically Wylis got stuck in a loophole of his own death which allows his be present but keeps him prisoner, with no escape from it until his death. & in one world/dimension bran can travel through Wylis/Hodor gets his peace in the end. Yet in another world(s)/demension(s) he get no relief because his death only means he will be stuck suffering till death, every time he dies it’s a relief & a curse at the same time. This episode made me cry at 1st then when the episode ended I sat there thinking why & came to this conclusion & really cried. Then started thinking about family curses (like addictions or cancer or violence or deformations or miscarriages or death) & I was depressed for about 2-3 days. Then I thought maybe this is why it’s an episode a week.

I wonder if Hodor remembers it or if his mind is just destroyed beyond "Hodor". Because if so, imagine him watching Bran grow up like "oh its that kid"

I always new Hodor was short for hold the door but that was just an assumption. I didn’t actually know why he said it until now but the reason is pretty incredible. He was mind fucked by a time traveling warg.

If you have seen "the flash" you can understand these kind of stuff easily. Bran is kind of flash without the running 😂 He can do it with his mind power, that way more powerful than the flash 🤔 And that's one scene that makes me sad, other than shereens death (i dont cry for John Snow or for the red wedding, but was shocked)

Always remember: writers can use two types of time travel. Alternate Timeline. Or Stable Time Loop. Harry Potter, movie 3, Prisoner of Azakban: That morning, Harry and Hermione get hit by stones which alerts them that an executioner is coming to kill Buckbeck, they refused to watch Buckbeak be killed and only heard an ax fall, and then by that night, when Harry's godfather was to be executed, they were asking Dumbledore to please believe he's innocent. Which makes it click in Dumbledore's mind what really happened and he suggests Harry and Hermione return to that morning. They threw the stones at themselves. They snuck Buckbeak away and the execution swung his ax in frustration. Harry cast the spell that saved his own life. And they saved his godfather in a Stable Time Loop. Another classic example would simply be John Conner sending his own father back in time to actually conceive him with Sarah in The Terminator. Part of the grim tragedy of that story is that since it is a Stable Time Loop, nothing can be done to actually change the "future" up to the point of John sending his dad/best friend back because, duh, it's a stable loop, and John wouldn't exist if the machines-take-over circumstances don't create his birth. Alternate Timeline is when the writer doesn't bother remembering all that and just accepts that anything the time traveler does to change the past won't affect his future, but will make a better world for an alternate timeline. Cable and the Age of Apocky in X-Men, Future Trunks in Dragonball Z. So. Bran used his mental connection with Hodor to travel into the past, where the stress of the attack gave teen Hodor a seizure and made him repeat the command he wouldn't actually hear for 30 years... Hodor grew up into a simple servant in the Stark family, and went on the adventure with Bran and his last work for his young lord was to hold the door and help him escape. .... Touching.... But why is this IN the story? Is Bran going to do this with someone else? Who else could Bran have already influenced like this?
@lbjohnnyjohn
@lbjohnnyjohn 5 лет назад
Here is a theory to twist your noodle. Bran worgs into the man who becomes the Night King. He gets stuck there and that why he and the Night King have that connection. They are the same person. Why else does the Night King act with a fore thought in so many situations.

I think the reason he had his Hodor seizure in the past was because bran is the conduit to past and present and when Meera screamed hold the door past Hodor could hear because bran was close to both of them

The whole "Hold the door/Hodor" thing is one of the few things I've enjoyed of the non-canon stuff. It's actually an interesting way to explain why he started saying that, out of nowhere. It's not canon, though. There's no real explanation for why he says it. It's just a thing he says. But the TV version is interesting, at least.

That's the reason why the Three Eyed Raven showed Brant that memory in particular. That he transported Bran to that specific memory when the Night King attacked. That is why he said to Bran to "listen to your friend". The Three Eyed Raven knew what would happen, and that it HAD to happen that way. Bran was "always" supposed to become the Three Eyed Raven, and that is what happened. And Wyllis saved Bran for him to be the Three Eyed Raven.

Someone's probably already mentioned this, but I believe it's called a *_predestination paradox,_* or _bootstrap paradox_ in the vernacular. Wherein a _present-day_ (or future) event causes one to go back into the past. That trip to the past then results in causing the very same present-day event to begin with ─ forming a causal loop in which both events are caused by each other. As this messes with my head, here is a wiki explaination that might be more clear then my scribblings: _A paradox in which the consequences of an event in the future travel back in time and cause an event in the past or present, which in turn is among the causes of the first event, forming a loop._ They just started calling him *Hodor* as he grew up because that is all he said. His real name was *_Walder._* Great reaction. As always. 😅

Best death scene in tv history. I guess witnessing and living through your own death as a young man messes you up. How good of a person was he that he still saved Bran? You know you will die but you follow the path. There's one scene where Bran says "I saw you as a boy. You could talk. What happened?". Hodor just says Hodor and hes actually saying "You did".

The way I see it is that Bran can't change anything, he can just give "context" to things that already took place.

I think we they "see" into the past or present they actually partially physically go there. And most people can't see them but they can hear whispers. But for some reason the Nights King can see them and that's how he was able to touch Bran because he was physically there. So in other words when they see into the past their time traveling.
