Im obsessed with how the choruses for Telemachus and Penelope both invoke the language of butchering. Telemachus being slaughtered so gorily (throat slit, cut into pieces, bones broken) and Penelope as a prized animal (getting a taste, taking advantage of every part of her body). It's so chilling and dehumanizing, I love it.
there's a moment when antinuous says, "share her spoils", you can hear a little violin in the background. violins and violas are usually associated with Penelope, so what we're actually hearing are her screams as antinuous would experience them: music to his ears. Brilliant little moment and highlights his depravity better than almost everything else in the song (aside from what we hear of Ayron's voice).
I love how Jay isn't afraid to get dark in his songs. Like if Antinous didn't say half of the things he says in this song, it wouldn't have the same impact. Like, you get to really HATE Antinous. He's such a real and vivid threat; it's absolutely terrifying. And that's what makes every villain in EPIC so memorable: They're ACTUAL villains.
you dont get it; im obsessed with this song because its dark (with the context.. people who dont know should not try understanding (unless you like dark stuff)
it's understandable. AT THE VERY LEAST You can understand the reason behind the actions of the Cyclops(Revenge for his favorite Sheep), Circe(protect her nymphs), damn, EVEN POSEIDON(Revenge in His son behalf) but the suitors? the DONT HAVE REASONS to be this cruel and evil, only greed.
This is tied with Ruthlessness and Hellfire (hunchback of notre dame) for my favorite villain songs ever conceived by man. Ayron/Jay's hauntingly beautiful lyrics, with the dreadful yet beautiful orchestration (at "share her spoils", you can hear the appearance of a violin, possibly representing Penelope's screams as they likely appear in Antinous's head: music to his ears. just an interesting detail i noticed) compared to the absolute depravity of the lyrics. it's AWESOME!!!
The ending of "Hold them down" being said 4 times sounds weird to me. It's the only thing I could see needing to be changed in the final version. But there's a jump-cut around 2:27 right before it. Maybe it's not the true ending of the song and it was edited in post-script? (Just speculation though)
