i didn't mean to vote but you're wrong. before this song came out, Hole's debut album Pretty On The Inside OUTSOLD Nirvana's debut Bleach. Hole's album Pretty On The Inside Outsold Nirvana INTERNATIONALLY. Kurt and Courtney weren't together either...Kurt was with Tracy. Courtney wrote these songs in as early as 1991. She wrote Doll Parts in Boston in 91 after Kurt REJECTED her. She wrote most of the songs on Live Through This in 89-92. So you're a tad uninformed.

Bands were allowed to sing on TOTP; they just had to fake playing guitar, base, keyboards, etc. Thats why the most watched/loved TOTP show was Nirvana’s - b/c they hilariously mocked the entire concept. Kurt sang different lyrics and in a different tone and melody, while he and Christ strummed their guitar/base like fingerless puppets. 😄🤣

I never cared, but she is more punk than anyone else. So she is beyond punk. She is like my babushka; you haven’t seen punk until you face her. Punk means nothing to Courtney. Which is the ultimate punk.
I remember watching this when it was on !! Those were the days . What a band .Courtney was such a beautiful mess . I was obsessed by Hole in the 90s. I still love Courtney now !!
Does anyone know if the guitar was pre-recorded for this? It sounds a little bit TOO close to the album version of the song. I know someone mentioned that the show usually had the performers lip-synch, which clearly wasn't the case here, but I have to wonder if their guitars are actually turned up because it sounds identical to the album.
deadbird1229 Top Of The Pops doesn't have people lip synch, they have them fake playing their instruments. They let the singer sing but everything else besides the drums are pre recorded.
@arealOpia1991 you're talking to 2 different people dear lol FuddMckoog did say that, poppinbotox did. anyway, i hate TOTP performances because they play that awful backing track and just have the singer sing live and all the musicians have the fake it. it's awful.
Just watched a video of her doing this song a few weeks ago. It was awful. She keeps lying and saying she's sober, I don't know why she bothers, it was obvious she was not sober.
@poppinkbotox1 hope you've had some progress there x) ... this was the first song i learnt when i picked up the guitar for the first time about 5 months ago jan 6th 2011 self taught myself and could play and sing this within two weeks without chord diagrams ... i'm pretty proud of myself ... could and can never afford lessons so its a slow progression but i'm proud i've taught myself so far completely alone and can play and sing some songs ... thats a great accomplishment for me x))

i agree with all of above comments.,this was the hole band,amazing and it was a one hit wonder,she never was this good again. i know it was because of kurt, he wrote most off this ,if not all of it! think about it,
Buulshit Live through this album and Celebrity Skin Album are great. Every song on live through this is great. Boys on the the radio and malibu from celebrity are great the earlier teenage whore is fun and on youtube she does the best version of where did you sleep last night and goffin-carole king's He hit me.
Hole was performing LTT songs in early 1993, a year before Kurt died and he never said anything about helping with the album excep with some vocals. This particular song was made in 1991 with Violet as well. Courtney is an artist and a fuckin awesome songwriter by her own right.

After the huge success she had with LTT she became an actress for a few years, she even got nominated for a golden glove for one of her roles and then she did Celebrity skin, a grammy nominated album with a n1 single. She didn't need kc to became huge, she did that all by herself way after he died. Sure, she lost that popularity in the 2000's but that was because of her drug problems. Now she is sober and doing her thing. She may not be like Dave, but she doesn't need to. Krist isn't as important as Grohl and nobody bashed him for it.
@arealOpia1991 This was 1st song I learned on the guitar, when I was 15, way back in 1994....lol....I am self taught also..Congrats on learning this song!! I can play "Violet", "Doll Parts", "MIss World", "Beautiful Son", "Softer, Softest", "Asking for It".....and many, many more!! Keep up with the guitar playing!! It gets more fun as you keep improving..I know from experience!! :)
