Hollow Knight | Ep 1 | First Playthrough | NEW FAVORITE GAME?

A souls player who doesn’t exhaust dialogue… You see something new every day I guess

Talk to people multiple times. They often have more than one line, and even when they start repeating themselves, they will often have something new to say later on. Cornifer would have introduced himself and apologized for his poor manors if you'd talked to him again fkr example.

I don't love hard games but I think Hollow Knight is secretly not as hard as it pretends to be. There's always details and tricks and patterns, and if you can spot them you can handle all of the base game. They do a lovely (but not perfect) job with understating the information, and if you haven't spotted something immediately then they'll probably gently hint about it somewhere else (you worked out you could downslash immediately for example - with that knowledge, keep an eye out for how the game might try and teach you that technique with how it arranges things. Also spotting you can slash up through floors is a great thing too. You can definitely do this!) also 23:16 you hit a switch, left the area, came back and were confused why a door had opened. You'd just missed the animation by leaving. That's probably gonna happen a lot lol, you'll get used to it 30:00, *that* switch operates the doorway directly above you, you can't come down through that hole from the other side until you hit it. A lot of times you're just not meant to know something yet or they're little fun details you haven't spotted yet, but in these cases it was just... doors, lol

YES! I'm so happy to find multiple small RU-vidrs just getting into Hollow knight! It's so lovely watching new people get into the game, and see the various paths you take and ways you think

It never gets old seeing people discover this game and fall in love with it. I'm excited for the next episode! One thing that makes fights and platforming much easier is the ''nail-pogo". Hit an enemy downwards from above and you propel yourself upwards again, potentially over and over, which most walking enemies have no counter to. It's super useful but not explained anywhere ingame. Holding the attack button longer in this situation propels you higher. Collecting Geo for the compass is a good idea. After that I recommend the quill, which makes the map update itself and it becomes much more readable.

there are dodges, eventually. You'll get to them when you'll start needing them (:

platforming knowledge, soulslike knowledge, PERFECT character voices lol - this is gonna be a great playthrough I can already tell

I love the aesthetic and music of this game! Also, I wouldn't have the patience to play it, so thanks for exploring it!

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this but when you die you leave behind your geo and when you go back you can fix your soul container

This game is MASSIVE, i really recommend you to not get spoiled, it will ruin your experience in this game, also don't use wiki please. Also you can talk repeatedly with NPC's to get different dialogues(or i guess monologues, since knight doesn't talk) Good luck in the world of Hollow Knight!

Glad to see someone discover this masterpiece of a game. If you think it's hard now, wait till you get to after a certain boss... I'd consider them the end of the game's tutorial. If you know, you know. That said... I think your difficulties mostly stem to just not being used to this type of game. I predict you'll get better at the game very quickly, once you grasp the basics.

I really appreciate how invested you are in the emotions of the game! (Responding and connecting to the characters and the caterpillars, thinking about why the enemies move and behave the way they do, etc.)

One of the best games - completed it 40 times. Glad you are responding to the score - Christopher Larkin did a fantastic job here. As you progress you will hear music I think you will really like. Game can seem hard, but it does a good job of making you play better. Keep it up :)

Yea, the game has a bit of a learning curve. I've had too many deaths like that last one.

You may have figured this out by now but when you go into your inventory and click on the map you could see a more detailed map of the area. You've gotten to that page but you need to click on the areas to see them magnified. Another cool thing is that if you double click the bumper you can go directly into the bigger map.

Like dark souls you gotta exhaust the dialogue to get the most out of all the characters

Hello. I know you are new to Hollow Knight, but I would highly recommend installing a mod for this game. It's called Hollow Knight Vocalized. So the world of the game will open up for you in a wider palette) He himself has recorded 140 hours, so I know what I'm talking about

I like the 2D gameplay of this, but I definitely would rage quit this game if I tried playing it.

Yeah, that would help when the aim is to not get hurt. 🥲 Take your time learning the game and explore to your heart's content. This game is massive, wonderful and challenging in the best of ways and I hope you will enjoy experiencing it.

your reaction to the lack of dodge button is so funny because i had the exact opposite experience when i started playing souls games after hollow knight. dodging to me was just moving out of the way of attack and i struggled a lot with learning how to use a dodge button 😂
