I think that Hornet didn't wait to escape, it just happened to her. Her eyes widened like she was surprised at what was happening. My guess is that once she crossed over into this new kingdom (by being close to the weavers or who knows what) something awakened inside of her.
To add onto this, it's stated multiple times throughout Hollow Knight that the only thing giving the bugs in Hallownest sentience was the Pale King's doing. Anything that left the kingdom would "relinquish the precious mind this kingdom grants". I'm wondering if the only reason Hornet didn't escape earlier is because she became lifeless after leaving the outskirts of the kingdom, until something gave her sentience again... That, or Hornet ASKED the bugs to carry her to the other kingdom, knowing she couldn't make it herself.
"Remember when William said Hollow Knight 2 wouldn't be coming out for another 10 years? Well turns out he was lying right to our faces," Little does he know William wasn't lying ... I have nothing better to do than comment on a 4 year old mossbag video after the silksong delay
I wonder if that's because The Radiance got nommed/sealed by void or because The Radiance was a local deity which didn't have power outside of Hallownest.
@@android19willpwn Maybe the sound problem is caused(if it is real like I assume it is) by another creature powerful like the Radiance or the pale king, also remember that it is stated that the pale king had power only in Hallownest.
I feel like this new kingdom has strong connection to Tuners from Godmaster DLC. They were the only ones to use bells in the game, and since we now know that bells are apparently important I don't think that's just a coincidence
Mossbag you missed something potentially big although kind of subjective! (but isn't that what your channel is all about?) About the moment of Hornet's escape.... Take a real close look at her face, as the threads coalesce around her. Doesn't she look... kind of surprised? Maybe the answer to your question of 'why not escape at any time' is that... she didn't. Somebody else broke her out; somebody pulling the strings from far away. That'd answer why she didn't escape before, but of course it just raises more intriguing questions...
I think you're right about her looking surprised. I'm not convinced that she was captured in the first place. The "cage" looks like it might just be a carriage. Considering Hornet's royal lineage, and her connection to the Weavers, my theory is that Hornet was traveling to the same place the Weavers went when they left Hollownest. She may have even been sent for. This brings up the possibility that the "breakout" is actually an attack, maybe even an assassination attempt.
@@NinjaGidget I don't agree for three reasons, although I admit they are all fairly weak. First, she looks kind of grumpy rattling along in that cage. Second, it doesn't appear to have any doors. Finally, those cultists who carry her show up as enemies later. This final point could be explained away as them being under free will when traveling with hornet and being 'puppeteered' later on, but the fact that they wear silk masks implies they are somehow 'alligned' with silk.
wait dont bugs lose their minds if they leave hollownest, like quirrel? hornet lost her sense of self after being captured and forcibly taken out of hollownest, but regained it upon entering a new kingdom with a different wyrm type god to give the bugs in it sentience
basically what i thought was: the land is haunted by silk and song, so they need to use stuff to keep silk and song away from them. for song they keep bells around, so they always have sound around them, for silk, notice how some enemies have crochet needles, and some scissors? i think they might use that to keep the silk at bay. or something like that
"haunted by silk and song" - when you mentioned puppets and their masters, isn't there another expression for following someone's orders? like: "playing to the master's tunes"? i think that the Weavers were rulers in that kingdom, like the Pale King (he was Wyrm before getting new form), and Radiance before him, but unlike them, they weren't forgotten - they had to hide in their own kingdom, leaving Hornet to find them and do something about it. wait, Pale King did that too (Radiance was also hidden, although not by her choice)! This kingdom is "haunted by silk and song" A mild theory appeared to me when I've heard this line. Right before watching this video I've watched the Vitruvian Grub video, in the video you have tried to speculate if there's anything more to a sidequest about them. An idea that came to my head is that the "Grubs" are actually silkworms who can manufacture silk, or "Soul silk" , a motive that we've seen used all around the "Silksong" trailer. In addition, we've seen the grubs produce songs when the protagonist approached them in "Hollow knight" that can be linked to the song that's taking over this new kingdom. All of this can also explain why the collector seperated all of the grubs across Hallownest at the command of the Pale King : Because the Metamorphosis of the grubs will give birth to the creature strong enough to overthrow the Pale King's kingdom. The main antagonist of "Silksong" might actually be the metamorphosis product of the cute grubs that we all know and love. That's just a theory I came up with, I thought it would be nice to share.
@@antoinemartin1389moths come from larvae, and one of the moths ascended into a god. Maybe a Goliath butterfly is an enemy, they are in fact stronger than moths
Which would potentially lead to a butterfly Big Bad, offering a cool contrast to the moth Big Bad of Hollow Knight. Though I'm not sure how that would tie in to the rest of the lore (especially regarding the Void and Abyss civilisation).
Okay. The "Lollipop Guild" got me giggling. Solid stuff as always. :) Interesting take on the overarching lore: that the Weavers are being used by Jinn and Jiji's Masters to control folks. That's just convoluted enough to work. And are the Masters scared of Hornet because they know she is part Wyrm (as you said, demigod)? I wonder if we'll encounter Jiji or Jinn in Silksong.
Possibly due to Winged Assassin and demigod that has something there. I really hope but really unlikely we see The Pale King or someone or something that has a connection to him *cough* *cough Weavers. Also Lace is of course going to be important and maybe the ants too. Im looking forward to this grand kingdom (not as everlasting as Hallownest tho) and what and why is haunting them. Also looking forward to using buzzsaws. Also my favorite boss from the trailer is that giant one in Forest Of Bones.
Tommy Burney Herrah’s mask has no line down the center, while the general weaver tribe insignia does (see the Weaversong charm for an example). Either way, as Herrah was the Queen of the weavers and Hornet’s mother, the connection from Hornet to the weavers still stands, and even if it was Herrah’s mask in the logo art, I still believe it could be used as evidence. But thanks for the reply =)
I've figured it out, Domino's pizza's delivery app has a bell notification system to order their pizza with. Hollow knight: Silksong: The quest for Domino's Pizza
I thought it was also pretty cool how Hornet’s spider crawl at around 10:20 is the exact same backstep animation Grimm uses in his boss fight. No, I don’t think it has anything to do with him but it’s cool. I’m currently finishing up my first playthrough of Hallow Knight and I can’t believe it took me this long to finally play it.
i think hornet could only escape at that moment because they were crossing a bridge. if she used that thread move in a normal hallway then nothing would have happened, but on the bridge she used the thread to throw the carriage off of it so it smashed open at the bottom of the ravine, in the moss zone.
This might sound stupid, but could it be a prequel? The trailer mentions learning skills while showing things that Hornet already used in the first game. It would also explain why hornet was weak enough to get captured, and why the ending of hollow knight seems impossible to link to this one
Team Cherry said this was a sequel and this story can be canon in either the Embrace The Void endings or the Dream No More ending. In those endings, Hallownest is safe from the Radiance for good and Hornet isn't dead.
@@madengineerkyouma That's a perfect name! I think you would do zero damage but a lot of knockback like in Hollow Knight One, so that the main way to kill people is to knock them into pits, also I think the game should be incredibly hard in order to show how bad at everything Zote is.
@@magensens8898 What are you talking about? Zote is so powerful Team Cherry will need to make extremely strong bosses so they can last at least two hits from him!
10:40 My theory is that Hornet's silk is actually made of soul. You see, soul is the stuff that animates life, which is why you gain soul for killing enemies. So if you gain silk for killing enemies in Silksong, that can only mean that the silk is made of soul. This also explains how the weavers were able to weave spells using silk.
Or, solution that could give a more plausible explaination (autocorrect is going whack, sorry for the mistakes if there's any) about the spool design of the jauge, is that just like soul totem, silk can conduct soul ( *sudden lightbulb moment* like water conduct electricity!), at least enough to be used just like spells. Talking of spells... they're concentrated soul, right? *thinks and then facepalm* Omg I just remembered, Hornet's thread SHINE LIKE THE DUMB GOD DAMN SPELLS!!!! *faceplant on the table* I can't believe I missed that detail for so long... I'm stupid sometimes. Anyway, just wanted to reply with what your comment inspired me. Either it (the thread) is made of soul or simply conducts it, I am sure there will be enough evidence to prove both true. Ps : would be cool seeing something like Hornet healing a big bad injury in a cutscene using some thread she'd wrap around her injured limb and either get absorbed (thread made of soul if that's how it works) or slowly lose its glow (if it's my theory that works, even tho I'm starting to have some doubts about how she can have so much thread on her without her cloths inflating and her looking like a baloon lol).
Also, when hornet strikes an enemy while she has full silk, they emit the soul particle effect instead of the silk particle effect. Which I think implies that when she is low on silk, the soul is woven into silk upon hit, but since she doesn't need silk atm, there's no need to do this so it remains as default soul.
@Demented Duskull I didn't even noticed that! And that could (maybe, I dunno) explain how weavers could both create weapons, shields, stories AND spells with their silk (like, who in their right mind would smash someone on the head with a quote on quote "book" made of silk?). Their stories were surely just woven forms and patterns that the weavers were able to understand, it might've been the wingdings of the Hollow Knight universe, like, just a thing that's really hard to read but that anyone could still learn. For the shields, I think they simply used some sort of stickier silk to consolidate them and make them sturdier, a bit like how clay must dry to harden. I think it might've been a similar concept for making weapons, they most likely just made the inside with normal silk which they glued together with stickier one, then hardened the outer part of the weapon to actually give it some potential to hurt thanks to some mysterious technique. Now, if only higher beings can harness the power of soul, then how could the weavers create spells? That's the dodgy part. So far we only know of higher beings (and some bugs who researched soul and how to manipulate it but we know what happened, they went kinda crazy) being able to use it (at least while still keeping their mind intact despite the infection roaming around). Did some higher being ruled Deepnest before Hera? Was it the Trilobite we see a shrine for? Was the knowledge of imbuing objects with soul passed on from ruler to ruler in the small hint of community that exists there? If so, then who originally gave the weavers such knowledge? It can't be the Pale King, since he kinda messed things up and only had Hornet with Hera so she could become the third dreamer. There's the possibility that the White Lady, Hera and Vespa might've been friends before, since Hornet has been raised by each of them, so in this case maybe it was less of an accord between the three queens and more of a bond that manifested in each of them helping the others in the princess' education and raising (like shared custody if you will, Hera might've started to learn to her daughter how the society of Deepnest worked, White Lady probably taught her democracy and the ways politics worked in Hallownest as well as teach her correct manners (notice how she never says a bad word during the whole game and never make some kind of disrespectful gesture to us) and Vespa took care of Hornet's training and took care of giving her values such as honor and respect as well as to know when to accept defeat or fight until the end, I guess that sometime shortly after Hera went to sleep Vespa passed away and Hornet barely visited the White Lady anymore, then Dryia died and Hornet just wouldn't take the risk anymore to come see the queen, eventually we passed by and just savagely killed Hera in her sleep, whoo boy, sounds like Hornet had it rough), so maybe Hera and the weavers (or Hera's ancestor, White Lady could be generations older then Hera for all we know!) were taught how to harness soul in their silk by the White Lady in a time prior to the events of the game, maybe even way before the Wyrm died and reincarnated as the Pale King. Another candidate is Unn, but I don't really think it makes sense. Sure, the Queen's Gardens are the only thing separating Greenpath from Deepnest and it might've been once part of Greenpath, but I don't feel like such a shy creature as Unn (plus she may powerful, but for all we know she might just be that, powerful enough to have claimed a piece of the kingdom as her's and that's all, she may not even be a higher being!) would blatantly come to Deepnest and say "excuse me, wanna learn how to use a deadly vital fluid? okay then", nah, also she would have to swim and crawl all over the small passages of Deepnest, try imagining a giant slug making it way to the distant village, Unn would be stuck a long way before she even crossed the first room!!! The Wyrm is at the opposite side of the frigging kingdom, so that's a huge no-no. Abyss creature? I don't know, it looks like something that really just don't want to be bothered. Radiance? Meh, who knows, we only know she created the moth tribe and went all peaceful and stuff before Pale King fucked shit up and knocked the fan over with said shit at least once with every powerful being that had made their home in Hallownest and about three time with Radiance, once by stealing her followers, another time by sealing her away in the dream realm and finally physically incapacitating her by sealing her physical body in the Hollow Knight's own dream realm or part of the dream world. No wonder she's mad as hell! So right now we have disqualified Unn (fatty), Wyrm (ded), Pale King (asshole) and Abyss creature (don't give a fuck about what's going on in Hallownest). Possible candidate still on the list are White Lady (she also look like the kind of person who likes to help people), Radiance (she was a little cutie until Pale King messed up everything) and a possible unknown higher being that might've once ruled Deepnest, either the trilobite the shrine is dedicated to or some unknown bug, maybe an ancestor of Hera and the weavers. Phew, that was a lot to go through, sorry for any mistakes, Google chrome doesn't recognise English so I might have to go back in explorer and correct this. (just done like 1 minute after posting the reply lol)
