The same problem with Hollywood,Western video games and comic books. Here are the problems: 1. Bad writing 2. Try to go woke to cover up the bad writing 3. Independent creators are showing what they are supposed to do. Then to top it off Japan is starting not to give a care. Old shows don't have the first two problems.

for me, hollywood/western cinema action is very lacking. 1. Shaky cam to hide bad fights 2. Obvious and bad CGI (superhero movies) that makes everything feel cartoony (but worse) 3. Rapid cuts (similar to reason 1). Compare any hollywood fight scene to older Jackie Chan fights and it's easy to see why Jackie Chan fight scenes are way more interesting and fun to watch

Hollywood isn't confused. They know exactly why it's happening. They just don't want to admit they're wrong for a variety of reasons both personal and professional. This is how it goes for a lot of people when they make big mistakes. Cognitive dissonance kicks in and then eventually denial, and the problem doesn't get fixed.

Older media is where the good storytelling is at. Humor was still funny, stories were compelling, and characters were interesting and actually had some depth. Everything these days is either woke or a sub-par remake that misses the mark completely.

Idk if this qualifies, but when the neo-Cowboy Bebop came out I binged the original. 2 episodes into the neo-Avatar: Last Airbender my boyfriend got upset and started watching the original. We just dont watch new stuff, and we normally give remakes or sequels a small chance. I'll watch The Golden Girls in a second instead of newer stuff.

New stuff feels like some sort of infomercial where they are trying to shove their messages down your throat at every opportunity. Older stuff was subtle it left it up to the viewer to interpret any messages in the story, heck you could miss the messages completely and still enjoy the show, they also explored multiple issues in different episodes not rant about the same handful every chance they get throughout the entire run of the show.

The current writers are so creatively bankrupt that they have to hijack well liked and long-established intellectual properties and "reimagine" them. They change these intellectual properties so much that they might as well should have been an entirely new property. We all know that it would have been a lot worse if that was the case. Imagine trying to have an old, prestigious name carry you and still fail miserably. All they had to do was follow the source material. Everything the woke touches turns into 💩. It is like the Midas Touch, but the opposite. They are the most incompetent self righteous writers that anyone could ever have the misfortune of overpaying for. Get woke. Go broke.

Bonus side note. One of the significant advantages of anime and cartoons, as separate fields, is the ability to pick up exactly where you left off even after 10, 20, or even 100 years. Consider Astro Boy, spanning from 1963 to 2023-a 70-year gap. I could seamlessly continue from where they left off, and unless you consider the shift from grayscale to color, hand-drawn to CG, and different voices, the main plot and overarching story remain precisely the same.

Yeah I agree with you about Dr. Who. And for me, Star Trek ended when Gene Roddenberry died midway through the last season of Next Generation. Quality control immediately went to hell once he died. They forgot what gender Data's cat was, they started ignoring canon.

Dont worry. They will fix their "mistake" soon. They will simply either make the old stuff hard/imposible to find. Or they will rewrite it to be just as bad as modern garbage. Or potentially intentionally worse so people are forced to buy the modern stuff just because it will be so marginally better. And then they will be confused why their profits dry up even more and insult their customer base whos money they are CLEARLY entitled to for not just handing them cash.

I love old shows with people I can relate to. Relate to does NOT mean that characters look or behave anything like me. But I like shows where the characters form a tight group of friends/colleagues/family. Different people but fittinv together. This is why it is why a show will not survive massive replacement of characters. Stargate SG1 does indeed fit for me. Star Trek Enterprise, the last real Star Trek series did this well as well.

Pretty much all the new stuff coming out now is unbearable. On Netflix, I just started watching House. I don't think they would even be able to make that show today. Old or new, does not matter since quality is important. People are fine with Japanese content as Japanese content. Cel anime last longer than digital cartoons. Saying otherwise is like saying Korea needs to be like Disney.

I know I'm a bit of a boomer in saying this... But Babylon 5 was my jam. It was more gritty and darker than you think with humanity still fighting each other even though we barely survived fighting a war against a more advanced alien race and they brought in the concept of personality replacement (getting rid of all your memories and replacing them with new ones).

One thing to keep in mind is those older shows have A LOT more episodes than modern shows, 18-20 episodes per season vs. 6-10 today on average. That means there's more to watch before getting bored of a specific show.

The Blue Exorcist continuation isn't so much a rare thing in anime anymore. They did it with A Certain Magical Index, and Full Metal Panic some years ago. And to add with Blue Exorcist, SAO: Alternative Gun Gale Online is conformed to get a Season 2 THIS YEAR. I'm stoked, I loved that fun lil' show about a insecure tall girl wishing and simulating as a P90 wielding Loli.

My favorite shows are Frasier, Home Improvement, House, Twilight Zone, Friends, and most of the really good shows that took place before 2000. Animations and cartoons before the 2000s were generally better.

And being backed by corporate IP holders makes it "official", or so they claim. The Trope "Word of God" and "Death of the Author" say otherwise. So, the two positions are not mutually exclusive, though fan-fiction and Anit-fan fiction would be exclusive. though their mutuality of exclusivity is up for debate.

I've always been a bit of a luddite when it comes to getting the newest technology & very nostalgic/ late to the party when it comes to video games. (Heck, with a few exceptions: Minecraft, Dragon age Origins, the South Park games) most games I play have been from around the year 2000. So yeah, watching old TV shows is hardly a new experience for me either! (nice to see I'm being a "trend setter" there! lol) Also, while I liked suits, and Meghan Markle WAS a decent bit of "eye-candy" on that show, she is NOT "responsible for its resurge in popularity"! Not in the least.

Even from childhood it was almost all anime. Dbz, pokemon. Even power rangers was originally Japanese. They do the best storytelling.

Lol, Stargate was my Last Series, too. SGU was more Like Galactica but i couldnt watch anlot episodes because of my Work schedule Back than.

compared to every scifi show i have watched in the last decade Babylon 5, Startrek: TNG, StarTrek: DS9, Firefly, and even the OJ Startrek are the ones i actually liked. Voyager was ok, Farscape was ok, as was Andromeda but nothing in the last decade or more was worth the time. On the plus side the wife and i have not needed to go to the movies in 15 years so lots of money saved and ALOT of crap movies skipped.

So many video games i cant even remember the names of except ghost recon and splinter cell ones. Full spectrum warrior. Some sort Gothic one where you could turn your arm into a tentacle and kill people. Bioshock. Dishonored. First 3 far cry games and that is basically gta on a tropical island with you as a cia guy.

@@wellhungindung PS5 has become a nothing console. Everything on it is either an unnecessary remake or is cross generational with the PS4. Sony already declared the PS5 to be in the latter half of its life cycle! You couldnt even find one reliably on the shelves until about a year ago.

You don't even need cable to watch SG-1. It's on at least one antenna channel at all times and I agree it was absolutely better than Star Trek and Star Wars.

Older Content has Much better quality writing than anything produced after 2014, the Jeffersons, Golden Girls, MASH, All in the family etc. Are better than anything being made today.
