@@gleasonparker1684, let me share with you an explanation I got from Randy Brown from Bible Buying Guide: "Overcasting is a line that goes across the side of the first section. Schuyler doesn't use it, but Allan, Thomas Nelson, and Zondervan do."

I have THIS in brown real leather not goatskin. In 10 point. Very good verse by verse And references. A beautiful BIBLE. I used to preach from a NIV. But study with NASB 95. NKJV. CSB. Got the Quentel in NASB And CSB. NKJV in PSQ.

Thank you for the review on this CSB bible. I also prefer the NKJV, but have just started reading in the CSB and have enjoyed it. I was a little nervous to try a translation i had never heard of before, but reviews from reviewers I trust like you helped me get past trying it. Thank you.

I've heard the CSB in its entirety and for what I can remember there's only a few passages that I really didn't like that much in terms of how they are translated. Pastor nice to see a new video. I also just love the NKJV for English translation. Only question I have is would you compare the CSB to the NIV? I hear a lot about it but just don't know.

Hi dear Charles, thank you so much for watching and commenting! This video (like all my Bible reviews) is not really about the translation itself but about the physical Bible. I normally make some small commentaries concerning the translation but abstain from giving a detailed opinion since this topic is highly controversial and many times divisive. Here's what I can say briefly (long comment ahead ;) LOL): The NKJV is my favorite in English for sure but I don't see any translation as perfect, especially after studying the translation process and working with the Bible in different countries and different languages. I believe there are great translations of the Bible in English and the CSB and the NIV are among them. The translation of the NKJV followed the so called "Textus Receptus" that was also the main basis for the translation of the KJV. The NIV and CSB are heavily influenced by the Critical Text so we are dealing with two main lines of translation here. In terms of Bibles translated from the Critical Text, the NIV and CSB are very reliable translations. Some people were predicting that the CSB would dethrone the NIV as a bestseller giving to the English reader a translation that is both faithful to the Biblical text and very easy to understand in modern times. But I don't see that happening because translations are always translations. Meaning, there are several words in another language to convey the meaning of a specific word that you are translating. Especially when in comes to the Biblical Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek! So generally speaking, when you have two translations that basically follow the same philosophy of translation and the same manuscripts, even if they render the original words differently, that does not mean that one is better than the other. If you read them both you probably will get a better idea of what the author was trying to convey. That's why I love comparing different translations so much when I'm studying a given passage of the Bible. The NKJV gives you the main variances of translation concerning the different manuscripts in the notes, and to me that's a BIG plus! In terms of translation philosophy, I lean towards the Majority Text, which is not exactly the same as the "Textus Receptus." Unfortunately, there are not many translations in English that follow the Majority Text. The World English Bible (WEB) is one of them but for preaching, teaching, ministry, etc., I need to use a translation that people can easily access so I chose the NKJV. I also like it, of course ;) The CSB and NIV, like several other translations, I use mainly to read special portions of the Bible in my devotional readings, and to compare different translations. I think the CSB, while still a young translation (although it's basically a major revision of the HCSB) has gained it's own place among English translations but I don't see it as being here to overturn the NIV. They are a bit different and will both last in my humble opinion. I love them both, I've heard them from Genesis to Revelation. I hope this helps... I do think that the readability of this one compares favorably with the QUENTEL just because they add more space.. it is almost a semi wide margin whenever you throw in white space it makes the dark print look better.

This Bible seems to put the references at the bottom of the text on the right hand side and so I think that saves a lot of space they seem to have notes at the bottom but they don't take up space with a center-column reference and very little space with the bottom references because they incorporate the references into the text ..but dividing it by a line..which I think is very good maybe even AS good as Schuylerler because Schuyler dumps everything at the bottom but they're still very good. Imitating Schuyler is the greatest form of flattery. I think the Cambridge does not use the two-column setting except in the TOPAZ because their TURQUOISE and their CAMEO Bibles were done with the print from 1920s AND in the CONCORD was done with the print from the 1950s but they could have made some better changes with the TOPAZ I think because when they went to a 10-point FONT they were sort of downgrading and they were NOT using the good FONT they were using in their King James version Bibles.

This Bible which was released in 2020 ..which I HAVE.. IS based on the 2017 CSB text. Apparently the ones coming out on October 15th will include the 2020 updates.. honesty is usually the best policy and full disclosure used to be a thing you had to do in business or you would go broke. I guess some people don't care about that as long as the customer is the victim of continuing updates.

The verses in my Bible which was copyrighted in 2020 for this particular verse-by-verse Bible but the CSB is still shown AS copyright 2017 so I guess they didn't change much or did not seem to want to add another version or another year to their copyright situation but this one has red letters is what I was thinking in that they're quite easy to see even though they're small and indented but being in red you can see the verses I think better than if they were bolded but a bold red would be good also . I really like two Column Bibles to where the versus stand or sit off in the space where the references used to be cuz they can be put at the bottom like they do in the QUENTEL.

Actually the references are in the right column of the Bible..both pages.. at the bottom and they're not separated by a line but there is a space where you can tell this is the references and then there is a line at the bottom for the translators notes and such so I think I did NOT make that clear before.. sorry.

I have this one in brown bonded leather from Amazon about half price..and it is very nice I do have a QUENTEL in the CSB that is on the way and I'm looking forward to that I'm sure it'll be even better than this I know it'll be a bigger font 11 instead of 10 so THAT is a big deal for me I think Holman is coming out with some new Bibles on October 15th including The New American Standard Bible.. better and different translations and different AND in more premium styles.

The Pigma Micron 005 in BLUE works the best for me in terms of having no bleed-through and just very slight shadowing. I love this Bible and the more I read the CSB the more I like it.

The CSB version of the Quentel has been released and I have a copy . I just wonder when they release the PSQ if it would be in the 2017 or the 2020 version?

Cambridge does bold and dark print but seems to only do it for their King James version Bibles . I wish more people would put bold and dark in their print.. they could get by with smaller fonts just like in Cambridge . a nine-point or even an eight-point is very readable because it's in such bold and dark print most people don't do that even Cambridge in THEIR other versions besides the King James version.

I still prefer Bibles that are done in leather because they're not so floppy and I just figure it'll last longer but I do know that some ARE reinforced but you know I Do buy floppy Bibles from Schuyler but also I would be interested in more leather Bibles it seems like now the only place you can get those are on Amazon.

How is the Holman goatskin compared to the goatskin used by Cambridge/Allan?

Hi, thank you for your question. I don't have an Allan so I cannot compare it to that, but the Holman Goatskin on this Bible is not as flexible and exquisite as the goatskin leather on the Cambridge Topaz, for example. It does look good and feels extremely resistant, so it will last you a lifetime. But if you are searching for aesthetics and flexibility, Cambridge will be better and I'm pretty sure Allan as well. As you may know, this weekend the premium leather single column wide margin CSB will be released. Do you expect you will prefer verse by verse over single column? Someone at the publisher told me color schemes will be as the verse by verse.

Hi dear Fernando! I'm not planning on buying the single-column since the CSB is not my main translation and I really love this one. I would need to have the single-column and compare the two. I also have a CSB Quentel by Schuyler so... I think I'm good... I'm even thinking of selling the CSB Quentel, since I'm not using it that much. I generally prefer VBV, but I'm willing to compromise when I love a Bible :) I guess I'm complicated! LOL :)

@@vintageprinciples, hi and thank you for watching and for your question! The Holman goatskin cover feels a bit thicker and a bit more rough, IMO. This being said, Schuyler covers feel and look a more premium to me. I did sell my Schuyler CSB in marbled mahogany calfskin, but that was an incredible Bible. If the CSB was my primary translation I would have kept it and even now I don't know if I made the right choice getting rid of it... LOL. Blessings!
