Mike Holmes should be involved with the government, to devise a training schedule for the home inspection that they must pass . Only then can they be classed as Approved Home Inspectors, where by law they must show the clientele the photo ID card and within date ( as codes change) , this will ensure two things, 1, the inspectors are always kept up to current codes and 2, this gives peace of mind to the customers. With a system like this one and have a three strikes as to where the inspection is not done correctly, then he will receive a warning, three of those and he’s off the recommended home inspectors, until he goes through the complete course again!
I agree, brilliant. The prob is MH is a successful entrepreneur and may not be willing to work for a civil service salary. Ideally, he could select the people who would craft the requirements and rules...and then leave the administration and enforcement to the government so he can return to focus on what he does best.
I just commented the same thing, year round growing with heat lamps to keep a nice toasty atmosphere for the particular plant. A inspection of previous owners/tenants is in order.
The utility companies love to spy on "high demand" energy users for the government authorities. I'd think they would get pinged because the lighting, ventilation, and cooling required for your typical large scale grow operation is quite demanding. Let alone the smell from the exhausted hot air. Doing this in a densely packed townhome/condo building like this would be quite noticable.
I was thinking more likely a computer server farm of some kind originally, but I think you guys are right, there should have been a ton of data connections if it were a server farm. I didn't see any. Either way it was a hell of a mess LOL.
This looks like a former "grow" house with all the plugs for heat lamps for plants year round growing. A inspection of former tenants/owners is in order, in my opinion.
For a "former" Police Officer she didn't recognize GROW HOUSE!!! Mike is fixing a 100% case of Buyer STUPIDITY or SLY LIKE A FOX. This is a ridiculous episode.

watching these shows makes me wonder how in the world does the home inspectors miss so much obvious problems. i mean if there is that much that is obviously wrong what is wrong that may not be so obvious or even hidden?
Simply put, you have to care about the work you do. People bitch about regulations and fees and taxes. This is why you get them. Greedy people make problems that the government has to try to mitigate. Enforcement is hard to do and expensive. Furthermore, regular folks don't often have the extra money to go after these bastards in court and these bad inspectors know it. We all pay for the assholes in our society.
She said: if I knew of all the problems, I wouldn't have bought it!!! That is the exact reason, the inspector didn't tell her about those things!! If passing the Home Inspection is contingent of sale,, run to a lawyer and look for a general contractor or professional engineer!!!
So, what are home inspections supposed to do? Is there training to do that job? Is there recourse for poorly done inspections? Where is the accountability?
With that many electrical outlets, was it a grow opp? Did someone test for drugs in the air? The hose seems like it could have supplies water to the drugs? Was this ever seen as a possibility to go after the former owners? I have seen so many shows on this problems.
People need to quit saying that a pot light or light bulb can set fiberglass on fire. Fiberglass is what it says, glass ln fiber form and glass don't burn at any temperature found on Earth.
This was one of those that felt like the most egregious. Like... didn't the owner even do a walk-through to notice the weird water hose, the weird electrical outlets, and the...whatever was the deal with the kitchen? Did she buy it sight unseen?
Probably used as a server farm at some point. Maybe as a small-time ISP. Or if done back in the early 90s, could have been a multiline BBS. Either way, there should be signs of extra telco lines. Maybe there was, but wasn't shown or were removed prior to them moving in.
If I was a realtor, how could they show this place to a future owner. I mean, would they not question what they were seeing. Also, if I came and took a tour of this place, I would not even consider buy this place with what I saw with the electrical. It definitely didn't look normal, so it probably was not going to be good to go. It can probably say for sure all those plug ins were not for a computer workstations, definitely not back in 2005.
i hope the scum that did this to her got life in prison or put to death nothing but a coward.....she is a hero and a great police officer who spent her career serving others I thank you!
It would be better if a potential home buyer paid a carpenter; plumber; roofer and electrician each to inspect the house before buying it. Obviously, the home inspectors work with the realtor to get the house sold. What ever happened to suing the so-called "home inspector" for errors and omissions?
