The Hologram Electronics Microcosm is an absurdly lush granular device. I wanted to showcase some of my favorite settings I've stumbled across as I get to know the pedal. It pairs incredibly well with synths of all kinds, but I chose the OP-1 to demo here... they look like not-too-distant cousins! As always, I hope you enjoy the sounds!

Awesome content man, you convinced me to buy one actually hahaha. I got mine today along with a zoom reverb pedal, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to connect both pedals to my OP-1. Do you think you could help explain on how to do this? I've been hours trying to figure it out but I think either I might be missing a cable or a midi host or something, as I also want to be able to record the sounds created with these pedals. I might be getting things wrong though

Been following your channel for the last week or so and you always seem to post exactly what I want to see! I'm on the July list for a Microcosm and I can't wait. And now you've got me drooling over an OP-1, especially during this anniversary sale... Really enjoying your straight-to-the-good-stuff style of content as well. There are so many RU-vidrs that love to hear themselves talk, so it's refreshing to find channels like yours that are focused on the music and don't waste so much time on the nonsense. also: what kind of cable are you using to connect your OP-1 to the Microcosm? I've researched some 1/8 to 1/4 cables but none of them look as cool as this yellow one you've got.

Thanks so much for the feedback!! I’m definitely still starting out & trying to find a good balance between gushing my personal experience & actually showing people some music hahah. I got that cable from a local store in Chicago called Transistor, it’s kind of a small gift shop/hi-fi audio accessory store. They only stocked them briefly and I got it a few years ago, I haven’t been able to find them around anymore unfortunately. It’s just a regular braided aux cable with an adapter though!

Honestly as an owner of an OP-1 there are way better options out there for the $$$$$$. The OP-1 is cool and all, but its hardly worth the money they want for one nowadays. You can get much more capable equipment for less $$$$. Just my 2 cents as an op-1 owner. Yes I love it, but I could have had so much more for the money. The Microcosm, now that is a definite BUY BUY BUY!

@@mr_unsane if you had to do it all over again - or sold your OP-1 today - what would you pick up instead? I’m drawn to it because it seems to pack a punch for such a small size. I have very limited desk space and it would be nice to have something like this always at the ready

I’ve been noodling around with this pair myself. I 💕 LOVE 💕 the Microcosm...but I’ve barely scratched it’s surface. It’s such a dense pedal..like there’s so much in there it’s insane. The OP-1 really makes it shine though. So far I’ve tried JU-06a, TR-6s, some pocket operators, bass guitar, electric uke, and eKalimba (that one’s nice too). As great as it is, you really need to spend a lot of time with this pedal to fully grasp it’s controls. Like toying with FM synthesis, things can go from beautiful to way out of hand way too quickly (that’s not a complaint on the pedal, just my lack of skill)

Haha I totally get you about it being able to spiral out of control. Especially since the knobs have different functions in all of the modes! That’s great though, I need to try it on some other sounds sources, I haven’t even plugged my guitar into it yet!! I have a feeling it would shine on acoustic.

i only realized yesterday that the looper holds the FX from the loop creation, and then the next layers can be looped with new FX on them. awesome to see and hear you use it with the drum beats and then the other layers!

Sounds so awesome. Can you tell me besides these two what I’d need, I assume an audio interface? And if I were gonna plug in an acoustic guitar, where would that go in the chain? Love your stuff!

Thanks! A guitar could go anywhere really, it would be fun to run it into the microcosm (via microphone or instrument cable) and then sample that with the OP-1.

I’m looking to get a op1. Would this setup be able to record into the op1 with the pedal effects? Or would it have to be through a daw?

If you want the stereo output, you’d have to record into a DAW or something similar. I’m not sure how you’d be able to monitor the audio if you wanted to r-sample it directly into the OP-1, but you could definitely record it elsewhere and then import the wav file!

I’ve had it happen a few times, especially when I’m doing a quick kick drum. But it’s never been a consistent issue for me!
