If you know me then you know that I’ve had a problem with automobiles. Generally speaking, owning too many of them at one time. But today, there is cause to celebrate! Last year I had 13 cars in my fleet and today I’m down to 6. Am I no longer considered a car hoarder? Am I finally on the road to recovery? Today, let’s talk about it.

If you owned these, which would you keep, which would you sell, and would you add anything else to your fleet?
@rightlanehog3151

Maybe I am being presumptuous but I always think of the Prius as being the 'family' car rather than a part of your personal collection. Keep the Nova!!!! For 'gosh sakes' change the plugs, belts and transmission lube in the Scion and keep it as well. That will mean you are down to just two street cars when the Probe and Jeep go. When the dust settles the irreplaceable Nova can get a little TLC. 😁

Just don't sell the Probe or the Nova, those are the most "Hello Road" cars. Try to make some collab with a bigger Channel to improve them...

I agree with selling the Wrangler and Probe. Maybe add an electric car. Like a used Leaf or something inexpensive.

Keep the scion but do a round of preventative maintenance on it. I had an older, Pontiac badged car from the same platform and there is a high likelihood it needs a new cam chain tensioner and valve clearance check (both simple) plus those belts are on borrowed time for sure if original. Betting a closer inspection of shocks, struts, steering components will prove a number of those items which are normal wear parts are near (or passed) the end-of-life. There are so many interesting cars out there so it would be presumptuous for us to give suggestions but I will anyway. Any of the Colt Vista (Mitsubishi, Eagle, Plymouth versions as well) manual would be the first one my list as splits the weird but functional middle between the xB and your former Previa.

With the sensible Scion and Prius for day to day stuff, you will be able to get a lot more enjoyment from the NUMMI Nova. 🤩🤩

Well done on slimming the herd! In my opinion, six cars is not a hoard. I would sell the Jeep and the Probe but make sure they go to good homes. Do go and buy some new cars, we love your videos and your pragmatism! My favorite is your Scion xB, so nice that you can keep that forever. Got rid of my first new car I bought, a 2001 VW Golf TDI Diesel, after 20 years and 400,000 miles but I don't regret it because that made room for my new project: a 1991 Geo Metro convertible. The VW was the complete opposite of your Toyota, it was unreliable and needed constant maintenance, I learned a whole lot (videos on my channel) but I just got tired of fixing it. Our current fleet from largest to smallest: 2014 Honda Odyssey (seats 8 and tows 3500 lbs and fits 4x8 sheets of plywood behind the front seats) 2014 Kia Sportage (my Dad passed away and left me the car, my 16 year old son is learning to drive in it) 2011 Kia Forte 5 (wife's car, manual 6 speed 2.0 L) 2015 Nissan Micra SR (top trim of a tiny car, so much fun, my 18 year old son is currently driving it, my mom has an identical one except mom's has manual door locks and manual roll up windows, which is exactly what she wanted when I helped her pick it out to replace her 1995 Mazda 323, now that was a cool car that I wish we could have kept and restored, anyway...) 1991 Geo Metro Convertible (manual transmission, 155,000 miles, so simple and fun to work on) I really enjoyed the style of this fleet update video. I guess I should do my own video, maybe when the weather is nicer. Greetings from Waterdown, Ontario, Canada!

I must be addled in the brain but I have a soft spot for your Ford Probe GT aka Purple Reign. I remember when they were a common sight on the roads back in the 90s. The design is a product of the time but it holds up well. It is difficult to believe that Ford was going to use this joint venture with Mazda to replace the Mustang. I can understand why you would want to move on from the Probe but I will miss it when it is gone. The Chevrolet Nova Twin-Cam is another awesome car. 110 HP is not much by today's standards but it has got to be fun with such a high rev line coupled to a five-speed manual. When I feel too nostalgic about cars from the 80s and 90s, I remind myself how basic they were compared to modern vehicles. Also, as you point out, safety has come a long way since the era of parachute pants. Thanks for sharing your experiences with these cool cars.

Greetings from Glenn in Cleveland! Are your neighbors doing cartwheels? I also can't imagine what it cost to insure 16 vehicles. I hope you got a fleet rate! Sometimes the best things in life are free, so hang onto that Jeep, even you have to throw a little money at it once in a while. I drove my convertible for 12 summers and regret selling it. I would love to see you do a "will it run and drive" video!

Hi Ethan! I really like the fleet as it stands now, you seem a lot less stressed without all of the other cars. I think that you have taught me the reality of having a collection of older cars. It looks like fun from the outside but at the end of the day they all need care and it’s a lot for one person to manage. I understand if you still want to slim the fleet down. It’ll be sad to see the Probe and Jeep head out but a lot less heartache. The Nova looks cool as always! Like a baby Impala SS. I’m looking forward to all the content that you have planned for the future, keep up the good work!!

Hey Ethan i’ve been watching your videos for years, all because you left a comment on the Nissan Stanza wagon video from Motorweek! Ever since that podcast where you said you were somewhat leaving the car scene I was doing the same thing around that time. In my opinion, I would absolutely keep the xB and the Nova. The Nova is such a “you” car and if you took the time to make it perfect I bet you’d love driving it even more. The xB owes you notbing at this point and is an excellent sort of utility vehicle for you. Why not get a hitch for it with wiring and a small utility trailer for home depot/dump runs? Loving the content whether it’s cars, e bikes, or whatever you find yourself into next. I think doing another race with Liam Nissan would be a blast.

Big step for you here, I'm proud of ya! A few comments - The rust on your Prius's hitch receiver means you actually use it. Unlike most of the pickup trucks in my neighborhood. Also in that vein, the Prius would fall under the category of "personal fleet" that I mentioned in my comments on your previous hoarding video. The flopping tachometer on the Probe has me worried the distributor is about to go. That's exactly what one of my old Subarus did right before the dizzy puked. As much as I love the Probe, I know from your videos that it's not one of your favorite or most memorable. Just pretty please, promise us you'll sell it to an enthusiast or Raddie? The Jeep should be an easy sale, even if it is a "Wrongler". No shortage of Jeep fans. I'm sure it will be properly loved and abused. As for the last two, I couldn't fault you for wanting to keep both. The xB has a lot of sentimental value for you, and the 'rolla is that rare unloved beast that you are drawn to. The xB is in good enough shape that you could slide it into the "personal fleet" category and leave the 'Rolla as a more-or-less permanent project car. And voila, there you'd have room for your cycling project car slot!

Crazy to still see any Ford “Fazda” PGTs on the road anywhere. I owned a ‘93 from 2004-7. They were fun and mostly reliable but were fairly expensive to fix and it quickly became impossible to find parts anywhere, yielding the cars mechanically totaled after the values dropped below what it cost to fix them… hence the whole junkyard thing. But yeah, 2.5L V6, KLDE engine code. They were “famous” for people importing code KLZE engines from Japan, which were a whopping 36 more hp than the stock 164. That being said, it became popular to build them out and boost them, which could propel the cars into the 12sec range at the drag strip. Without boost the V6 used the two-stage VRIS solenoid air intake system, which was kinda like boost in the way the engine built power. These were also the days where Borla / Greddy exhausts and CAIs added “significant” ponies. When I got mine it had awful 90s 3-spoke aftermarket wheels, so I got a used set of factory 5-spokes and painted them gunmetal and polished the outer lip. Fun times!

I was surprised to see the Chaser go, but I'm quite impress and glad you were able to get your fleet down to six cars. I imagine it must feel like quite a relief and like a huge anchor have been lifted off your shoulders. In my opinion, six cars is not considered hoarding. Especially since all of them are running and driving (hopefully Liam Nissan too very soon 😅) I can't see myself owning more than three cars, but that has more to do me having very limited real estate. Otherwise, I'd love to have one for everyday of the week (and named after each day) like an early 2000s hip hop music video. Not sure if your other viewers would be interested, but I imagine trying to hunt down a headliner for the '88 Nova would probably make a whole video by itself. It be interesting to see what hoops and hurdles one must navigate to find parts for a vehicle of this vintage. Thanks for another entertaining video!

You need at least one EV or at least PHEV like the Leaf you sold! So sell a gas hog and buy an inexpensive EV.

Get rid of all your cars! Car enthusiasm is a function of Big Car. Big Car and its allies in Big Oil, Big Freeway, Big Tire, Big Asphalt will never stop until everyone drives a car. I like your channel, but I now hate cars.

Thx for the comment. I have a nuanced opinion on this, have you seen this vid? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d4Hi4rXe3lA.html

@@HelloRoad Yes, I have. I watch and like your videos. I used to think that car dependence was the problem and car enthusiasm was good. Now I see that car enthusiasm cannot exist without car dependence. The automobile industry and its allies will fight to the death to make us car dependent. They must grow and deliver more to their shareholders. It's really a symptom of business today. Companies cannot limit their growth.

If you no longer hoard cars. Congratulations you let us down. Thats whybi watched your channel, i thought you were one of the ones trying to save the old cars from the 90's and such

Having too many cars means none of them get any attention. Fewer cars means I'll actually have the time/budget to work on the '80s/'90s cars I buy.
