Since this is from my hometown I can tell you that this is a peoples instrument not something that was used in classical music but rather in the folk genre of the previous century and before, from around 1800-1950. "Schrammel-music" is played mostly when drinking wine and enjoing yourself. But of course you can use it for straight classical music too.
What the hell? Both of those guys playing are pretty amazing!! The 15 string was a rare treat to see someone play a different instrument with such proficiency and skill! Amazing guitars, amazing musicians! Cheers!!
That was very cool. I take back my comments from a few days ago about demonstrators not being able to play well - they must have been the one or two exceptions, everybody else since then has been awesome (especially these two guys..) :-)
Looks like a touch guitar, or a Beartrax or a Chapman stick or Warr guitar. I want something like that, theres a great musician named Kai Kurosawa that has a couple custom made models and the way he plays them is incredible. Hes on youtube, definitely worth a search.
