Now I am imagining this epic hard fought battle where the nids desperately break through Terra's defences, salivating at all the rich biomass EVERYWHERE. Then they land and start pouring out, and all they see is this half starved mass of humanity. The humans pause, then cry. "BLESSED EMPEROR, FOOD! SO MUCH FOOD!" As one. Then this living tide of quadrillions of people wash over the tyranids and start fucking eating them like zombies. The hivemind starts murdering, but there's just an unbelievable amount of people. And the invasion ends with the nids being roasted on big reeking bonfires in the streets. And all the populace is oddly happy, because for the first time in a long time, they're stuffed to the gills with food.

Star Wars takes place a long time ago. Also it's not really an optimistic setting eather. Slavery is common empires are consistently just bombarding planets. About the only optimistic thing is the Jedi code that can be summed up as there's meaning in suffering. 40k really isn't that unique in this regard. Most Sci Fi is fairly depressing. They do. The Inquisition despite their enormous power is only concerned with Chaos or Xeno cults. They don't really care about human criminals that are still loyalist. In fact criminal gangs constantly help the Imperium suppress chaos cults and the like. The Imperium's elite has given up on the idea of progress ever since the Horus Heresy. Terra could recover, but I think the politics and religious dogma keep it the way it is. They've fortified themselves into a siege mentality and are looking to fight harder, not smarter. It would take a few hundred years of planning and re-terraforming to make it self sufficient again, plus shipping a large amount of the surplus population off world. I am sure the Big E would be all for it, if he wasn't trying to be the North Star for the Warp as well as stave off Chaotic incursions.

Well the only other factions at the time were the Orks and the Aeldari... The Orks got obliterated and the Aeldari didn't gave a shit xD I think GW din't do the Aeldari-Empire justice by just stating "Yeah they just signed treaties with humans idc" like what? The Aeldari-Empire was 60mil years old when humans made contact with them. They were probably in decline before the humans even evolved and were way to focused on hedonism and ecstacy to care for some monkeys, who just found out how the warp worked. If humanity won any battles against the Aeldari, then it were probably small regional wars with individual Aeldari nobles since the Empire was never centralized or ruled by one government (The Aeldari had a tribe like culture). If the Aeldari were at their true peak along with humanity, then we would be fucked. They would probably just steal our sun and put it in the webway leaving Terra to freeze xD Ok enough space elve cock sucking xD But yeah, that's my take on it

I'm upset that everyones downplaying the Aeldari-Empire and compare it to the humans in their prime when the Aeldari were stagnating and declining for millions of years. @flameknightplayz2939
@flameknightplayz2939 2 года назад
@@ojarsvitols1641 The Golden Age of Mankind is the age of experimentation, meaning countless prototypes and not true Op-ness. Humanity doesn't become a galactic superpower in just 7 thousand years, the warp drive was invented in 18k and the galactic shitshow started at 25k. Humans weren't on their peak and was just starting to colonize, that is why they have focused more on standard templates, colonies just built OP techs using those standard templates thousands of years after the rifts and scattering began. A 7 thousand year old Human empire does not rival the sheer technological progress and warp ascendancy of millions of years old Aeldari Empire. Even a declining year 18k - 25k Eldari is still millions of times powerful than a starting human empire. I too am not downplaying humans, but compared to a race genetically engineered by Old Ones and inherited their tech, golden age humans just don't stand a chance. Old one tech and ancient war in heaven Aeldari techno-sorcerous weaponry that is barely understood by the year 18k-25k Eldar is still incomprehensibly more powerful than what humans can build during the Golden Ages. Such weaponries were used to kill gods and destroy reality itself. A dying lion is still a lion, still more powerful than newly birthed cubs. The weakening Crone Goddesses Morai-heg can still foresee the future and what humans will do if they threaten the very existence of the Eldar thousands of years before they even leave Terra, a weak dying goddess is still a goddess. Even some Eldar saw their fall thousands of years before it happening, that's why remnants of such awesome xeno empire survived. What can human computing do against species that have insane precognitive powers and a literal goddess that can see the future. Humans don't have the technomany of the Necrons nor their C'tan influenced supercomputing machineries that rivals even the Eldar God's precognitive powers. To those who say "But! but! Eeldar signed peace treaties and non aggression pacts with them!" the Eldar empire is massive, and they occupy the entire galactic center, they acted more like shattered kingdoms. Some xenophile/merchant Eldar does not represent the 90% uncaring hedonistic majority situated in the center of the galaxy. That is the equivalent of saying that merchant-like and somewhat xenophile ROUGUE TRADERS represent the Imperium and the rest of humanity. Eldar have integrated sorcery to their technology, to the point they literally can wish anything to existence. Sorcery have shown us capabilities such as devouring a literal sun to open a warp portal ala Ahriman, Eldar can do much more insane feats of magic than Ahriman. The Eldar can safely ascend to a state of divinity during those times, they have dark muses, those COUNTLESS dark muses are living GODS that are PRIMARCH level strength and are alpha+ psychers. Worship of the Dark Muses started in 19k - 24k, with each representing some kind of carnal sin or pleasure, countless depraved living gods roamed the center of the galaxy. With the War God Khaine during those times kept fed with power along with the countless dark muses ruling at the center of the galaxy, challenging the Eldar for galactic supremacy is just ridiculous. Fighting with a complete, well-fed with worship, juiced up for millions of years, and unbroken War God Kaela Mensha Khaine is just suicide, so war with the cocaine filled horny Eldar is pointless. The fall of the Insane Eldar dominion and the rise of Humanity in 30k shows just how big brain and great the plan of the emperor is. He waited for the Eldar to kill themselves since not even golden age humanity nor any other million year old xeno species can challenge them, only the Eldar can destroy themselves.

I actually doubt that terra is much more populated than coruscant in star wars as coruscant is not just a planet wide city, it's actually over 5000 planet wide cities built on top of each other with hundreds of trillions of inhabitants. Also coruscants underworld is completely lawless and run by gangs with the underworld police having little to no control over the lower levels, and they are cut off from sunlight, food and water is scarce and the lowest levels are almost completely uninhabitable due mass pollution, radiation and mutant creatures, not unlike the underhive. So coruscant and terra are actually more alike than you may think.

Could you please explain this a little more? Do you mean they could kill his body, and as an eternal he would eventually come back? Or was he not quite as immortal back then? Did humanity actually have a way to permanently kill the big E if they wanted to, prior to the unification wars? I'm imagining they could have just dropped a nuke on him via air strike or ICBM and he would die without any real way to prevent it, but that he would eventually be reborn or reincarnated or however that works for eternals

Just a small comment, if there where 4 quadrillion people in earth there would be 2000 people for sqm. now look around you, think of a square meter, and stack 2000 people (choosing 1,5m/person) that would be a tower of 3km. so the earth would be completely surrounded by 3km of human towers every square meter. lets give every human 20 sqm and 3 m of air space, and with this you are not taking into account streets, work spaces, palaces... that would be a planetwide 180km wall. Once again GW numbers are totally off the bonkers impossible, proving people don't understand big numbers. Quadrillion has 15 zeros in it. There is absolutely no fucking way for people to reproduce fast enough to get to even close to that number in the time scale here. That would mean there are 200.000 times more people on Terra than currently on earth. Saying thousands would starve if food shipment would be delayed is nonsense. Even 10.000 people of 1 quadrillion is so fucking minuscule number that no one would notice that. Currently on this population which is 200.000 times smaller 25.000 people starve to death every day. In order to even produce and transport enough resources, water, food, etc. to this 100000000000000000 number of people would mean that the there would have to be a fucking shit ton of space ships to black the skies of Terra.

I know GW can't get their numbers straight, but over 1,000,000,000,000,000 (1 quadrillion) people seems unrealistic. There's literally only 510million square kilometres of landspace on earth. That's about 1 square metre for every 2 people, or 2,000,000 people per square kilometre. For context, the single most densely populated place on earth (Manila) has a population of a density of 41,515 people per square kilometre. If we say that Terra builds up to cope, and apply the figure to that, then assuming Manila maintains its ridiculous density constantly and we just stack all the buildings on top of each other 50 times then buildings would nearly leave the troposphere and literally enter the stratosphere. And landspace is only the first issue I thought to bring up, I haven't even gone into the fact that you'd need like 125,000 modern earths to feed Terra, or that they'd easily have a corpse output of over 80,000,000 tons a day (meaning that if we just piled the corpses up, then in like 3 days it'd be bigger than Mount Everest and in 4 days it would out outweigh the entire human race). GW get your shit together.

Terra is a narrative reflection of the emperor and the imperium itself - A quadrillion minds and a quadrillion miseries, but localized, like a cess pool is still a cess pool, but a cess pool that is an a amorphous growing mass (like an algae bloom in an ocean) is chaos whereas the imperium is a fancy petri dish - Better the devil you know and whatnot. Also, on the topic of a bacterium eating a cookie - The emperor devours millions and millions of psychers each day - So you could interpret 40k lore to mean that earth's staggering population is a sort of bomb for the emperor to use in an emergency - Suddenly he devours a quadrillion souls in an instant and rises to one shot a chaos God.

@@cromulom2223 this makes sense, but is it recorded they had such weapons? The emperor is by far the strongest of the perpetuals so I’d say killing him would have been far more difficult otherwise it would have happened. Fulgurite is the only confirmed way to ensure a perpetual stays dead and even that is questionable because once it was removed from Vulkan he was resurrected. It’s still unknown if that was his final life or if he still retains his perpetual powers. Hopefully the new squats release sheds some light on what tech they had. Can we just start calling earth Holy Terra already? It sounds so much better than Earth. Although then mvemsjnup wouldn't work anymore, it would have to be mvHTmsjnup and how the fuck do you pronounce that? Either way still a better name and it would piss off pretty much everyone all religions, except the nature worshiping ones and the atheists because "holy". I see this as an absolute win.

Is called TERRA, because the Gothic language speaked in WH 40k is a form of neo latin (latin is the language of ancient Rome, and could be used also to indicate what came from ancient Rome, not south american things by the way), so Terra in latin means Earth (the same also in Italian)

The birth of Slaneesh messed up the Warp big time
@GodlordBazi
@GodlordBazi 3 года назад
The answer is rather simple. As you know, the warp is a direct reflection of the state of mind of beings with a "soul". During the Dark Age of Technology, most beings in the Milkyway Galaxy were pretty happy with the way things were, so the Warp was a quiet calm place compared to its current state. In fact, it was so calm that jumps with a range of about 4 light years were no problem at all, even without the guidance of a navigator. In addition to that, mankind had the technology to calculate routes within the Warp with devices like the Void Abacus, so navigators were only needed for jumps further away than 25ish light years. When the Men of Iron rebelled and the Eldar murderfucked Slaanesh into existence, that all changed drastically. Slaanesh's birth alone caused a fuckton of warp storms to happen and the misery most living beings experienced during that time didn't help the problem at all. Even 5000 years later, when the Age of Strife came to a close, the situation hadn't gotten much better, except for fewer and weaker warp storms maybe. Mankind wasn't even able to jump to the next star system without navigators and their former technology was just lost almost completely, so Big E introduced the Astronomican as a beacon to facilitate the navigator's work of calculating warp routes, while he worked on the Web Way Project in order to eventually solve the problem for good. In the current lore, the Astronomican is needed more than ever before, since the forming of the Cicatrix Maledictum after the fall of Cadia made the Warp almost as unstable as it has been 17.000 years ago.

@@levishaun8334 "much, it's that it's too many people per square meter of surface" Not really. Look up Matrioshka worlds or ecumenopolises. There is some good videos on RU-vid and good articles on the internet about it. You could definitely have some worlds like that. The biggest problem would actually be heat recycling believe it or not. "large swathes of it are covered in various facilities and megastructures" Actually you can an entire layers of it just for that. "There's a limit on how many people you can cram together for the population to remain viable and even remotely possible to maintan" For a purely planetary civilization, sure. But not for one that has the resources of an entire galaxy. The only thing 40k gets wrong actually is how freaking poor Earth would be in that situation. "At some point diseases will become so widespread and so easily transferable that entire continent-sized areas will start dying out en-masse" LOL, not really. First, advanced civilization would also obviously have advanced antibiotics, second, dense cities are on average actually way less prone to disease outbreaks than less dense settlements.

@@gustavoritter7321 we're talking about 40k here. @@levishaun8334 "but in 40k the absolute majority of Terra's populous live in abject poverty, absolute squalor with nobody really giving a shit." Yeah that is really a mistake on the part of the writters. Any barely galactic civilization would be so rich as to make every citizen pretty much live like a billionaire does in our world. Just as today's middle class has standards of living better than medieval nobles and even kings. I guess an in universe explanation for this is the fact that even though the Imperium is vast, it is not truly advanced. Much of their technology is crap, rusty and badly assembled. The Imperium is basically a spacefaring North Korea. I guess that is the consequence of ten thousand years of a ossified government that basically has given all of its industrial and technological capacity to a bunch of uncreative, stagnant and frankly idiotic "tech priests" instead of harnessing the creative spirit of its quadrillions of human minds, which are pretty much bound to have at least some trillions of Einsteins and Newtons. If the Imperium ever got some competent leadership, instead of a dozen of so called "noblemen" whose main objective is protecting their own social positions, they would probably be harnessing the immense energetic power of black holes, dumping travel through the immaterium for true "warp travel" Star Trek style an building rings around Holy Terra, Jupiter, Saturn... the whole deal, in order to decrowd and feed Earth. But I guess by that point, inside the universe, humanity would become so overpowered and incredibly potent that it would completely destroy all of its enemies with a blink of an eye and make it all very boring.

Earth is about 150 million square miles, pop. Density of NYC is 30k per square mile. If the entire surface of the earth were as population dense as NYC, the population of earth would be 15 trillion. 1.5 Quadrillion is 100x more dense then that. That means 3 million people live in every square mile of earth in the year 40,000. If you had a 400 story skyscraper/subterranean bunker (an inverted skyscraper), it would have to be 2000 feet tall first of all, aka double the height of the world's tallest today. And you'd need one on every single square mile of earth. But if you had that, then there would be 7500 people on each story. That's actually 3000 square feet per person, which leaves plenty of room for things like common areas, markets, space for sunlight to peak through, anywhere that isn't living space basically. Just to give you an idea of what a population in the quadrillions really means.
