I used to run a 288 on the landing just bucking. If you run one of those things all day, you'll know you did something. They were used on slasher crews in this part of the country for bucking on clear cuts. You could burn up 2 to 3 gallons of gas a day with one.
Totally agree on the 562xp have 2 a 2012 & 16 my go to saws out of a collection of 10 pro saws. Especially as we get older be 60 soon. Seems like everything gets heavier as time rolls on🤣 Awesome video as always love your channel you've shown me a lot of repair tricks 👍😎
Well said sir in regards of cookies cutter people as not relevant in real work. I like the sound of this 288 most probably hollow muffler. Regards Dorin
Good move putting a cable on that last one and using the machine to pull it down. Safety first Walt. Nice to see the G288 working good. Debating on getting the G288 or a G 372 for a back up saw for my ms 461. I just use them for firewood. No hard use. I cut about 8-10 cord a year.
Yes the g288 is heavy but it has power to spare in my opinion. It just keeps on pulling in the cut. But your right that’s it gets heavy after a couple tanks of fuel.
Commenting as I watch…man I wish I were there and not here. It’s 112°. But my saw shop has A/C now…mebbe after this vid I’ll go put that 288 I got in pieces together…
That G288 is doing the job. I'm betting that it won't be long before Holzfforma comes out with a PRO G288? I love my 288 XP even though it is a porker and a gas hog.
You may be right about the 562, but if thats all you used, 562 might be the amount of subs you would have. It's like haveing a toyota sedan over a 68 camaro, gets the job done and has more comfort, but it's white goods.
I've noticed with all mine that I have, and are out. That the minor carb chasing is for about the first 15 tanks. Give or take a few. But after that, they just run. Some times I wonder if it's the piston rings not completely set yet.
The ms660/g660 has neat things like external sprocket/internal clutch and simply a more modern layout / ergo's. Power wise they are about the same. The g288 feels heavier. A "sorted out" g660/ms660 would be an easier saw to live with. The g288 other than it's bar oiling is a more solid saw as delivered. Quite a bit better fit& finish and it runs strong. BUT the 660's do feel lighter and my 660's vibrate less. It's really a toss up, I choose to the the g288 because I have run the 660's on and off since 2014 and want to run different stuff. Logging with it now and tree's are hitting the ground... solid saw. It did take LESS effort to get the 288 to a work ready saw
