@WhichEV I hope so too. I would prefer to have the power feed from the consumer unit as I have an oversized consumer unit specifically for a car charger install. I personally don't like having the consumer unit tails cut and split to a separate consumer unit just for the EV.

An EVSE is not permitted to share an RCD with anything else, so it is incorrect to state that it can utilise an existing non-dedicated RCCB. Also all protective conductors must be connected to the means of Earthing before carrying out an insulation resistance test.

I had a Podpoint fitted recently it only took about 2-3 hours work, there is an app with it which works quite well. I am regretting not getting something with solar integration as i am probably going down the solar and battery route in a few years time. You do need to think about future proofing your charger. I paid £949 for my podpoint fully installed but it was pretty limited work with my charger next to my meter box.

I might be wrong, but looking at the components in the matt-e and the wall charger, aren't you doubling up on the pen fault protection and RCD devices? Is this OK? And do you put the load management clamp to the matt-e or the charger?

£1,000 wouldn't even near cover an EVSE installation. The EVSE itself costs damn near that. Around £1,500 would be more realistic as a base price.

Great video except the HIVE Alfen connections are at the bottom not the top of the unit now. Video is out of date (as are the instruction booklets provided with the charger). Don't waste your money.

@@WhichEV because they have changed the equipment but not updated either the documentation or the video. That demonstrates a lack of concern for their customers safety.

I should have perhaps clarified. The HIVE Alfen unit I purchased has no clear connection point for the incoming supply. Opening the unit there are six terminals only two of which are identifiable as live and neutral. There is now an energy meter inside with four empty terminals and contacting the manufacturer the four empty terminals are on the outgoing ways. So either this is the connection point for the tethered cable or it is connected back to front. Either way, none of these points are clear as the documentation doesn’t match. There is a risk someone will connect the incoming supply to the wrong terminals and damage the charger or worse cause an injury.

@@WhichEV Don’t be daft. If that was the case then why do they sell them without installation? If you sell a product to the general public or to a professional, you have the responsibility to make sure the documentation provided matches the equipment you are selling. I’m guessing this isn’t an official Which website because that is a truly stupid remark.

Do you have to dig the trench yourself or will British Gas do it?

They might do it, but for an extra charge. In this case the home owner dug the trench themselves.

In the UK, now the grant has gone, you will be looking at at least £1,000 including the charger. It depends on the charger, but also can be cheaper if it's installed by your energy provider.

No, you need a DC-capable charger for V2G generally. None of the AC ones we know of have that ability.

How can you say the Customer service is excellent??? It's absolutely abysmal. Poor response via the email help address and try calling them via the customer phone number!!! No one ever answers the phone, they just leave you listening to inane loop music, until you give up! I should know. I have spent hours trying to speak to them. Unfortunately it's been that bad, I am now going to rip the Ohme system out and source an alternative EV charger at great expense. I can't spend anymore time trying to get them to help me sort out the installation problems

To be fair, they did sort the problem out in the end, remotely. However it just took a long time. I now have the charger up and running fine.

@@19martinb so you did pursue a response, did it take much longer, since you posted 3 months ago? I’m curious because they were quick to answer when I gave them my custom, I had a bad experience with a tradesman once and I only got a response when I called from a different number 😂

Initial response was relatively quick but then it took maybe 10 days or so to get the settings changed as per my request. As I said....all ok now.
