@@SheEquipsHerself Ok so first video i am watching of yours with the boyfriend....he is really informative, and he presents this information in a logical way. very different from the usual RU-vid "Guntubers" which I really appreciate it sets you apart from the crowd in a great way, also always enjoy how you present information when you do the talking as well. Also swapping my .20 shotguns 00 buckshot with #4 buckshot cause of him for home defense he raised some really good points. Crap I keep editing this comment but what are your and his thoughts on Pistol Caliber Carbines or Conversion Kits for pistols for home defense for those who cant afford like an AR platform specifically in response to the rifle part cause some people can get a PCC easier than an AR or AK.

My first line of defense at my house is our dog. Nobody unknown to him is getting into the house without a huge amount of noise coming from him. He’s a Great Pyrenees, 120-pounds and the most lovable family dog in the world, but nobody is going to sneak into the house past him. He gives me time to get to my second line of defense, all of which were discussed in the video. Great video by the way, thanks for putting it out there.

I bought a German Shepard for my daughter so that when she goes to college it can do the exact same thing for her. The fierce bark of a big dog wakes you UP and scares the hell out of an intruder while I grab my weapon to checkout whats going on.

Our medium sized dog has variable barking depending on how far a stranger is. If someone is walking on the sidewalk, he does a couple of "bruf" barks. Kids cutting across the yard gets a full bark and delivery people on the front step or back deck get the full insanity response. Dogs are a very helpful 24 hour monitor system. Cats on the other hand.....

The one thing allot of tactical trainers forget to advise is the importance of a sling on a long gun. If you have a malfunction or knocked to your feet after you've missed your shot, your weapon can be retained and not be used against you.
@SheEquipsHerself
@SheEquipsHerself 4 года назад
Slings can be good and bad. Sometimes they can get in your way and cause malfunctions, especially when reloading. They can also get caught on things when you're trying to remove them from your safe. Over all, slings are generally a good idea but it's another level of training. Just putting a sling on a long gun and not training with it can get you into trouble. I agree with your perspective though! Just something to consider. Thanks so so much for watching my video :)

I've been around guns for years and that explanation about rifle bullets and the water with the pebble. That was probably the best way I've heard that effect described. I have been watching RU-vid videos and trying to learn about firearms over last month. I have never own a firearm although coming from a law enforcement family, father and uncles. Never felt the need to own a gun till this past year. I really appreciate the novice level approach to information. There are an enormous number of videos that explain guns and ammo to a more firearm educated following. I have learned more about personal and home safety that nearly a months worth of RU-vid video. I also wanted to get my wife interested and I have had to watch with me. Thanks again from a newbie to this field of self protection.

If you carry pepperspray its a good idea to test it on yourself (not alone) so you know how it feels and learn to react when under the influence of it. Have warm water mixed with babyshampoo handy. Two things that i have seen: The front door isn`t the best idea with all the glas. You could put cover for you on top of the fatal funnel (stairs) instead of the handrail. What works is something made out of concrete or filled with sand be it a small wall instead of the handrail or flowerpots on top (as one can see around public buildings) but for home use i`d recommend to cover it up with wood. Smart placed mirrors can also be helpfull and especially if you have space around your house home defense doesn`t start in your house. If you don`t want to leave the light on all the time you can also use lights with motion detectors. If they are placed right you are protected behind the cone of light.

Just discovered the channel. Great information. Did not know those large pepper sprays existed. Went through the comments, looking for this same observation before posting my own. Please add cover to the top of those stairs. A narrow bookcase, stuffed with books, would not be out of place in your hallway. Will definitely adopt the idea of motion lights at the base of a stair too. Great advice.

This channel is amazing. With the state of America currently. We have been thinking about getting a firearm and home defence tools. This knowledge is extremely helpful. Due to the shortage of handguns a shotgun seems like it may be our only option and having no experience with firearms the segment on pump versus semi automatic was invaluable. I wish we never had to think about this though and it's a shame it's gotten so bad that we no longer feel safe and protected.

When I was a pretty young kid, my grandpa told me, 12 ga, No4 buck is the only way to go if you want something to just plain stop. He lived quite a life and made lots of things stop breathing in his lifetime. I've tried both 00 and 4 quite a bit, and it's hard to argue with him. The noise of the rifle is the exact reason we switched to a pistol carbine for our house long gun. Plus it gives us a little more realistic range for outdoor situations.

Just found this channel and subscribed. Some of the best advice I have seen on RU-vid without a bunch of tacticool nonsense. The solution to where to store guns throughout your house for various situations is to simply carry while inside your home. That way it is always there when you need it. It may sound crazy but what would suck after all your prep and training is to find yourself in a situation where you have nothing but empty hands.

Light on all HD firearms for PID, sling on long guns. As mentioned the best firearm to use is the one you have the most practice with and immediate access to. If you have multiple options with similar familiarity or are getting your first firearm specifically for home defense then your living situation should be a consideration, different calibers and loads are not all equal: some are better for apartments and others for rural where your closest neighbor is a mile away and you live alone (rule #4- know your target, what's behind and what could become behind/in front of). Fastest access is on your person, if you've got kids or concern of access then get a holster with good retention (like safariland). If unauthorized access is less of a concern then "staged" safes are another great option. Whatever you do dont just get a gun and call it good, get practice (in various conditions and positions if you can), become proficient, have a plan and know your local laws. Thanks for your vids offering advice, especially now with so many new firearm owners, tell your bf thanks for his service for me too and stay safe out there. :)

Just started watching your videos, trying to get my wife on board. One thing you should consider for home defense is a good set of electronic earmuffs on your night stand. As you BF mentioned, your hearing will be shot if you fire a gun in your house. When the police come you need to be able to respond to commands and questions. Electronic earmuffs will allow for you to hear what is going on in your home, yet protect your ears if you DO have to shoot someone in your home.

I too am a vet, service connected disabled US Navy Vet with a law enforcement background. I'm also a ballistics geek. I have 4 presses actually. I absolutely agree with fit. You have to have a weapon that fits you, feels like a well worn glove. If it doesn't you may as well throw it at the bad guys after the first round. I don't agree with your choice of shotgun ammo but personal preference. I like the double 00 simply because it does penetrate. The smaller lighter can be slowed depending on what you're shooting thru, ie heavily attired bad guys, not to mention. You can actually bounce the bigger shot off the ground, walls and not have it distort as badly. I absolutely agree with discharge volume, why I don't use my .357 mag. The one thing you didn't mention that is huge. When you practice use the same rounds you use for self defense. I've met to many that practice with "plinking" rounds. Then when they go back to their self defense rounds. The recoil, noise adversely impacts them. I have one or five but my go to is my 1911. When the military went to the 9 we stayed with the .45 as well as the M-14. I do prefer my AR over that tho. While I shot expert with the 14, the weight, length, recoil.............Ya PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE If you have to think about it......you're to late

This was great introduction to critical areas of information/consideration and delivered to the benefit of the participant.

Such a great video to share with my niece and her adult daughter. I’m sure they will both look into all the options for home defense and conceal carry by watching your channel, I’m hoping they will subscribe and learn some of those good ideas you share. Looking forward to more videos As I’m always looking to learn. And thank him for his service and continued service.

Watching this video has enlightened me so much!! The way he explains everything about a shotgun has made me go from not having any knowledge to having learned a great deal about the shotgun and its use for home defense!! This channel is so amazing in how he explains things thoroughly!! Glad to know of his military background!! Such as I am as well!

Wow, thank you both so much for this video. I learned SO much that I will be applying. Specifically, my husband and I are going to work on optimizing the lighting, and I’m going to get some home defense pepper spray. I have one of those little bottles that I carry when I’m out, and was surprised to see how small it sprays! I really appreciated the visual of all the different size bullets lined up and the explanation of the buck vs bird shot and all the other intricacies. This was so well done, and I’ll be watching it again.

Thank you both for a great and informational video on home defense. I especially enjoyed the explanation of the shotgun and the different shells. I really had no clue the difference, and which is best for home defense. My husband and I have a 12 gauge Mossberg that I have yet to shoot. Definitely need to get to the range so I get used to it. In the current climate and living right outside DC knowledge of all firearms is a must. PS: I watched both the drawing and reload videos this morning and spent 30 minutes practicing both! Thanks for all your doing!

I agree. I use No. 4 Buck in my Mossberg 930SP Tactical 12 ga. semi-auto shotgun, as one of my home defense tools.

Excellent video, and yes once you get past the 380 most pistols are just that a pistol. Go buck #4. Or train up on an AR.

Now this is good information . I do not own a home defence shotgun just yet as i have not made up my mind on a make and model .. This is well done and i like the part inside your home where you live how to get to your firearm quickly when you need it .. Myself i do not lock all of mine inside the gun safe in the back of the house , i keep two out and they are in a room where i'm located , with one by my chair where i'm reading or watching TV.. I like that in real life how you store yours and are safe and in an instant you can have one in your hand .. That's well done .. The other part is bed time , what lights to leave on for safety and what lights to leave out , what's your best part of the house for a view of downstairs and to stay safe yourself .. I do not own an AR rifle or pistol and have no plans to buy one at this point ..I agree with a 20 gauge shotgun which would also be the gauge i would go after myself ..I like this as it's in real life , it's where you live and spend time ..

No talk of on body carry at home? I've never in my life thought about the advantages/liabilities presented by the color of what I wear to bed. Literally the last 2 minutes but that was so helpful. Thx!!!!

Hi!! We have young boys who love to wrestle and play so we don’t usually carry on-body while on the house but always have one nearby in a quick-access safe!
