I got one a couple of years ago, might be a 10 inch, but it has a manual oiler. And the chain cuts fast. That one acted like it needed a new chain or a good sharpening. I would be manual oiling this one to help the bar last longer. Thanks for the review, man.
Bought this a few weeks ago and love it. My favorite part is that it is 'oil-free', so you never have to provide oil to it. My first job for it was taking down a 4" thick square mailbox post. When right through it in about 5 seconds. Because it's only 8"...I'd imagine larger tree trunks are out of the question...but it's been great for small/medium jobs. Well worth it for the $99 price.
Nice review, would have loved to see how hot the chain got because of no oil? I think it would need a little oil manually from time to time to make the chain and sprocket last longer?
Hart has a similar item that doesn’t have an oil reservoir either. I haven’t gotten either, because I have the m12 hatchet and the thing is awesome. This could be good for a home owner cutting up some branches.
Thx for posting. I got both the 8" chainsaw and the 22" hedger for $99 with 4ah batteries. The hedger is more useful & worth the price paid. Ryobi should charge less for the chainsaw because it lacks auto-lube & no safety paddle, plus they should have designed it with a pole mount to reach high up limbs. I wouldn't cut dry wood, to harsh on wear n tear, it mostly for greenwood and I still use wd40 on chain before cutting so it'll last longer. Walmart has replacement chains 2 for $12? I'd like to switch it out to a 10" bar & chain. That toe guard is stipid. 100% will leave it off.
Got a newer version of this one, with the battery on the side, a couple of weeks ago. Used it to cut down a full hedge (ca. 30 meters) last weekend. Worked like a charm, and I did it all on one battery ( 9Ah).
"let me show you the one handed operation, while I use the other hand to remove the safety bar and play with the chain". Such a good idea, my fingers fell off.
I'd be tempted to put it against the Dewalt Flexvolt recip saw I won from you last year. I've been using that to cut out a bunch of small trees and I think the Flexvolt might be faster with a 3 tpi Diablo or Milwaukee blade. My one handed Milwaukee might tie with that Ryobi. Weight can make a difference too.
I love Ryobi tools and products and I own many, but that things slow🐌🐌🐌I have cut 10in diameter branches down in seconds with the M18 fuel sawzall and a Diablo carbide pruning blade, even the Ryobi recip saw I think cuts faster it seems. I think with no oil the plastic might burn or melt,I would definitely be manually oiling it, might even cut faster with oil. Glad we got a review before it got shipped to it's new owner.
I have one my rule is if it's a 8" I cut 4" in branches half of it's bar size and I use grease on the bar that way I don't have to be spraying it with w-d 40 as much
No oil? Wtf? Are most ryobi guys cutting their grass with this. Loved the review, Ryobi needs to add an oil reservoir and get rid of the guard on the next one ☝️
It's more of a pruning tool. Think about that polesaw but without the pole. Besides, it's 50 bucks. If you want a real chainsaw, the dewalt 12in is nice but the m18 16" rules
So many idiots in the comments saying no oil no deal???? 😂😂 Why do stupid people always talk the loudest? Ryobi tested this and was proven time and time again, a chain that spins this slow does not need oil. It literally made no difference to the life of the chain or bar in their extensive testing having oil vs no oil.
Thanks for sharing the insight. No need for the for the abrasive language though. Many people are still learning and we all don’t have the same knowledge. Again, I appreciate that insight…just lighten up the language a bit for us 🙂✌️❤️. I hope you have a great 2022
It says in the manual that it needs to be oiled. It's just doesn't say how or where. And I agree the abusive language is uncalled for and not a sign of good character
@@Walker615 No it doesn't say it NEEDS to be. it says to lube as needed. That doesn't mean its required it just a preference or if your doing really hard wood and larger sizes. You act like I haven't talked to the people who designed it. I also find it weird how you try to judge my character when I was never abusive lol. I never called anyone out and saying the word dumb and idiots is not abusive in the least. You sure showed your character attacking me personally though.
@@JamesMKE You must think you're famous. You act like I would have any idea who you've talked to. Or even care. For Ryobi to say it doesn't need to be lubed, but that you should "lube as needed" is sending mixed signals and hedging their bets, and indicates to me that I'd better be ready to apply some lube. It's like me saying "my dog doesn't bite, but apply a tourniquet if needed".
ASMR is proof that we are the most historically documented generation of all time. Future generations will ask what we did with this emerging technology and see and hear what it was like to live in this day and age, then complain about the lack of smello--vision and taste-o-vision.
I have used a Ryobi reciprocating saw for cutting 3 and 4 inch thick vines, and it is S L O W. It's okay for doing a few, but the chainsaw is a lot faster with less effort.
@@Walker615 yeah, I could see that with the Ryobi one. I have the Milwaukee Sawzall and with a 9” carbide blade, it cuts through a 4” branch in 10-15 seconds. Blades make a big difference in reciprocating saws. I do have a chainsaw too and that gets through a 4” branch in less than 5 seconds but then I have to clean it up afterwards. So it’s not great for smaller jobs because of that but my Sawzall can just cut a few branches and put it away, no clean up
Mine worked good until it didn't. Motor quit while cutting 6" madrone. Bought it from Amazon a year ago. Supposed factory 3 year warranty only good if bought from Home Depot. So no warranty for mine even though book says 3 year factory warranty. I took it apart, a brush in the motor broke.. Motor no longer available from Ryobi. Guess it's a throw-away. No more Ryobi's from Amazon for me.
Good review 👍. I still have mine in the box, was a good deal with the batteries . Didn't expect too much out of it, but it does seem capable of doing a couple chores around the yard without breaking the bank
No Oiler is a deal breaker for me to even give it a shot to disappoint me! I have the “new last year” 18v 10”makita, beastly little saw!! I’ll continue to use my m18 fuel hackzall with diablo pruning blades. I’d like to get one of those m12 chainsaws whenever they finally decide to run a good deal. Even then, it’ll be a fun toy, but won’t replace the hackzall w/pruning blade for this light work, just out of diversity of the tool combined with ease of maintenance and ability to use in the dirt. All this said, if I could’ve found one of these during the Ryobi days promo, I would’ve got one to play with. But I drug my feet too long, and then they were gone. You should do a head to head against that new Ryobi one-handed recip with a 9” pruning blade!!
Like the video but honestly that ranks Up there to be one if the most useless pieces of plastic ive ever seen. Electric Pruning pole saws and recip saws have out performed what appears to be a gutless 8" waste of neon green plastic.
