💥Rechargeable batteries can destroy a home in minutes 🔥
Most West Aussies own items with lithium-ion batteries - all of your rechargeables such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, e-scooters or e-bikes, power tools or stick vacuums can be a hazard in your home if left on charge or damaged.
If a lithium-ion device is overcharged, faulty or poorly manufactured, the batteries can overheat and explode, sending burning lithium-ion cells flying through the room. Lithium can burn at 2,000 degrees, igniting several fires simultaneously 💥
On average, our career and volunteer firefighters respond to two residential structure fires each day! However, these incidents spike around July - August as WA enters the depths of winter.
We’re urging the WA community to take some simple steps this winter to help avoid catastrophe:
- exercise caution when charging devices with lithium-ion batteries.
- make sure you charge them in a safe place and while you’re at home.
- only purchase reputable products.
