This is why people call Adam an alien 😂 Adam was a trumpet performance major in college but also can play bass guitar, keyboard , drums and most band instruments. He even learned enough Korean to do his part in a comedy skit Home Free used to do at their concerts called Guilty Pleasures.

Adam studied trumpet, which surely explains his breath control. He learned beatboxing and later learned drums so that his movements would be correct. This is an older video, when you see them now Adam plays with a looping station during his solo and builds a complete vocal EDM piece on the looper, it's fascinating. Their shows are so great live. The guys have great interactions with the crowd and Tim MCs through the show. He is a very funny guy

Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.

I went to see them 2 years ago, they don't come up this far very often or I would have seen them more often. They are great live, the concert is fun, the guys are fun. It was a real interactive experience. Adam always does a solo, Tim does "Story time" and there is a constant back and forth with the audience. Just an all round cool experience.

Look for a more recent solo, he is amazing! I've been to a few shows and what Tim says is so true, it's not a concert, it's aa party!

So glad as a drummer that you got to see this. My wife and I saw Home Free in June 2022 in Grand Rapids, MI. Phenomenal show. It was shockingly loud but clean sounds. Really a fun night spent with our youngest and his wife.

As soon as I saw this video, I was like, "OH, YEAH....!!! Steven is going to go NUTS over this!" Being there in person when Adam does one of these (which are SOMEWHAT different every time, but not a WHOLE lot...he has his routines down pretty pat), is a TREMENDOUS experience! My daughter Judi, her second son Harry, and I went to a concert in 2017, when I was still recuperating from having my second hip joint replaced. Even though we had purchased balcony tickets at the sports arena where they performed that evening, when the ticket-takers saw that I was still carefully pushing my walker and was going to have a bit of a hard time getting up to the balcony, they changed out our seating to the side-view bleachers that put us pretty close to the stage, on the main floor, and we put our jackets down for cushions, so I was quite comfortable. Not only did we get to hear Adam's intermission "drumming," we also got to hear and FEEL Tim SHAKING the whole place with that wonderful, velvety bass voice he carries around everywhere! Harry was not quite 10 at the time. He (like all the rest of the grandkids here) has ALWAYS loved music, and every one of the eight of them also LOVE Home Free to the max. Harry writes music, and he and I love to sing together. He thinks it's really fun that "Grandma sings bass." When he was at that age, he would sing up into the soprano harmonies (and he harmonizes just gorgeously, totally naturally), and I would drop down to baritone and bass, while the other kids and their mom would sing whatever parts seemed right to any of them at any given moment. We still do that, but now Harry, himself is a confirmed and steady bass. (I can still go lower than he can, though). So...there we were, on the bottom bleacher row, when they began singing "Ring of Fire." We were SO excited, because we KNOW where Tim goes, at the end of that song. When he DID, with the mic right up to his chin, and hit his low, low, LOW note, EVERY SEAT IN THE PLACE SHOOK..seriously. Harry's face was absolutely stunned. He grabbed hold of the bleacher seat, and almost turned white! We looked at him and just started laughing like crazy. We had known what was going to happen, but he hadn't. He looked at us, almost CRYING, and whispered, "How did he DO that???!!!" We, of course, explained to him LATER, about the vibrations of the bass notes themselves, but also, that with the microphone right in front of his mouth like that, and tuned on exactly to the correct volume it needed to be, to pick up that FANTABULOUS deep, deep velvet voice, there was NO way that the whole place was NOT going to shake! We did some experiments at home, with paper up against different surfaces, as we showed HIM how to make the paper buzz, just from his own high tenor voice at the time. I showed him the differences with MY deeper voice at the time, and Judi sang up in my OLD registers and sustained a note somewhere above high C, so that he could also see the differences in the demonstrated vibrations of our three voices. Now he knows EXACTLY how to write his beautiful music using just the right combos of all those things, on his keyboard. He's AMAZING! 😀 Also, because we're all very rhythm oriented, sometimes groups of us will sit around and do very much what Adam did in that demonstration at the arena. Even my husband loves to do that. Four-year-old Eliel (which means, in Hebrew, "God is my God, and I will praise Him") LOVES beatboxing, as well as dancing around everywhere, when we all start "doing" rhythm. It's so much fun! I had fun with the NOW nine-year-old, Wesley, just yesterday. He was pretending to play trumpet, so I pulled my real one out of its case, told him to sit still for a minute, and played reveille for him. He LOVED it, and I'm sure he'll have that one down with his trumpet imitations, before too long. I may have to play it for him again once or twice, but then he'll have it...forever. When I was in my teens, after the 1964 Alaska quake, every year, down at the docks in the NEW town of Valdez, because I was first chair trumpet in our high school band, it was my job to play taps, as a tribute to the 32 people (out of our small 500-ish population) that we lost all in on sweep out and one sweep back in, of the huge tsunami, on March 27, 1964. I practice with that routine when I get my horn out to warm it up. I can hardly get through it without crying, but I still love playing it. AS FOR Adam and Chris Rupp (who were the organizers of the very first version of Home Free), they were both in music college (Chris is two years younger than Adam). Adam was studying TRUMPET along with vocal skills. Chris plays guitar and piano beautifully (and already did, before college). He was focusing on vocals. They heard some singers doing a cappella, and loved it, and put together their own group, early on. Since they needed a "rhythm section," Adam DID also learn to play drums, so he could be authentic with his sounds and actions. Though they have a wonderful studio they go to for recording, Adam does his OWN recording, mixing, and mastering HIS beatboxing parts. Then his tracks are added to the rest, for the full effect. When they perform LIVE, however, you get to hear it all in the raw, and THAT'S when you realize that nothing that is MIXED for their recorded music is (and I HATE this word) "auto-tuned." When you hear a song on RU-vid, by them, you are hearing THEM. Accurately. Period. Once you hear them LIVE, you understand that. A really great song of theirs that you could react to, would be "In the Blood," from their "TIMELESS" album. It's the #6 track, and it's just fantabulous! Adam's beatboxing for THAT song, is quite a bit different than what you just heard, and VERY powerful. I'm going to send you some Home Free range info on Patreon. 😀

I’ve been to a home free show in Nashville. It was absolutely incredible. They didn’t sing my favorite song, but I didn’t care. I was just so happy to see them live!

Great reactions! My son and I went to see them and they are a riot! One minute they have you crying and the next you're on the floor laughing. Plus the fact that the way they interact with the audience is great. If you ever have a chance to see them live, take it. You won't be disappointed. They are all humble down to earth guys and they put on one heck of a show. You're not going to a concert, you're going to a party. Have a great day!

I've seen Home Free in concert four times and he's NEVER done the exact same drum solo. The only song he's ever had trouble with was the remake they did of American Pie with Don McLean. It had six verses and he was literally exhausted afterward. By the way, Don requested Home Free to record the song with him, not the other way around.

I’ve been to two concerts and he does a looper now where he records his voice and then goes over it. He’s so amazing and while this is older I love it. It’s really clear and the sound is great. He taught himself drums to get the movements right. He also plays trumpet and other instruments I believe. Great reaction! I also love the singers too. They are immensely talented. 😍😄

Adam's percussion is always exactly right for whatever piece they are singing - never too much. My understanding is that he learned to play drums so he would know what was realistic for a drummer to play so his part was realistic, too.

Yes, my parents and I have seen the whole band 5 times. In ‘22 we attended a full weekend with Tim, Adam, Austin + The Alley Cats

This one is the earliest drum solo video shown. There are later ones that display how much his talent has improved. Look up Home Free Drum Solo 2022 and 2023. He has been know to throw a bit of moon walking and Billie Jean in the mix.

I have been to one of their concerts and it is like one big party. Tim Faust is their front man and he is funny besides having a wonderful voice to boot. Love my Home Free and if they come close enough to me this old lady will be going again.

I've seen them once, in London, and it's a party. They are all fantastic, and Adam's mindboggling - he uses a desk for looping now: still all him live, but he can layer things to make them sound even more full.

I've been to 3 Home Free concerts.... They are a blast.... also it's cool that they take the time to look around and meet there fans eyes. I have been to concerts where an artist will look at one or two people in the front row. They are looking at everyone they can.

Home Free did a video for Dolly Parton's 9 to 5, in an office setting, and it's really fun to watch. Their great live cover of that song is Home Free - 9 to 5 + Beatboxing Breakdown, October 27, 2015. They all have mad beatboxing skills. Another Home Free short to see is called Leaving Adam out to dry on stage. The beautiful blonde laughing hysterically when the guys lose track of time is Tim's wife Jenika, who was their tour manger if I remember right.

Love this guy. I've been to 2 of their shows and he got standing ovations at both. In fact, he got TWO at one of the shows. I think you would enjoy his performance in their cover of the Doobie Brother's Listen to the Music. He now uses a looper in part of his solo so that he can layer multiple sounds and then harmonize with himself. Fabulous. Definitely the heartbeat of Home Free.

I think a very good explanation for this: Adam Rupp is inhuman. 😉 He is a drum alien in Angelguise. You just have to because he is so unbelievably good(and handsome too😊😍)!! Like he swallowed a drum kit. And then vocally he can also make so many more (instrument) sounds which is not normal I went to their performance on September 27, 2023 in Utrecht Netherlands. That was the first time but certainly not the last. They are wonderful, very kind and funny.

Saw them in Manchester this year tour was cancelled in 2020 due to covid they are an all acapella group who won on the programme sing off and as they say its not a concert its a party 🎉🎉

IMHO, Adam Rupp is the best beatboxer. I think if he had the time or inclination to compete, he'd win hands down. He does a 10 minute drum solo in each of Home Free's live shows (until recently, that's around 150 shows a year.). He plays trumpet, drums, guitar, piano & just about anything else he wants. Watch "Workin' For a Living" for his no-monica!

I've been to around 8 Home Free shows. Each one was different, as Adam learned new stuff he would add them to the shows.

Home free is awesome. Adam Rupp is surely one of the top beat boxers ever. I never really liked a cappella until listening to Home Free. They not only made fall in love with a cappella music, but I enjoy country music much more as well. Probably equally impressive is Pentatonix. They are another a cappella group, but they dabble in more modern music and the have a huge Christmas catalog. On your thumb nail, I noticed that you commented on a drum solo with no drums? Pentatonix won a Grammy for their rendition of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. It is a song with no words, performed by a group that uses no instruments.
