New video is up, reacting to Evynne Hollens' "Evolution of Disney Princess LIVE". Can Check it out here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hnHvZ0FCIrk.html
The Oakridge Boys have been a group for more than 50 yrs. Their sound, harmonies, and style, to me, are kind of that of a traditional gospel quartet. They and the Statler Brothers pretty much dominated that quartet lane of country music for a couple of decades.
Pure Country. The Oak Ridge Boys have been around since the early 40"s. They started as a gospel group out of North Carolina. The Army incited them to play on the weekends at the Oak Ridge Tennessee Manhattan Project site. They played every weekend for years and became known as the Oak Ridge Boys by the locals. The name stuck. There have been at least 2 full replacements of group members over the past 65 years.
Great Reaction!!!! I Grew up Listening to The Oak Ridge Boys & I Love them & Home Free!!!! So Glad the Sung this Together!!!! Elvira has Always been One of My Favorite Songs Ever!!!! You should also check out their cover of "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" ft The Oak Ridge Boys & Jeffrey East!!!!! So Beautiful!!!!
Well as a kid, my mom blasted Country music to the point where I just wasn't interested in anything Country/Western/Southern/Bluegrass, anything in that direction. So I'm still kind of discovering what I like in that area, as an adult. Also, keep in mind a Maritime Canadian, and a good bit of that music is foreign to me. I love what I hear though.
No, just don't really like this kind of music really. There was a period of time where I went out of my way to avoid it at any cost. So I didn't care who sang what. We all have our musical preferences, and if you aren't in to a music genre, you aren't going to take the time to acknowledge artists of that genre. That's all.
The Oak Ridge Boys are from around 25 miles from my house. I lived in the same town for more than 50 years. They're from Oak Ridge Tennessee. Keep in mind that they are in their 70s in this video. It's like they traveled in time and are singing with themselves from the future, or even their fathers. If you listen to the voices and look at their appearances it's literally like they're singing with themselves from a different time
I agree. Its as live as they could get during the pandemic. It was recorded in November and also has Jeffrey East. It was part of their Christmas Special.
The Oakridge Boys were on HF's Christmas streaming concert singing Beautiful Star of Bethlehem with Jeffrey East & HF. You could listen to it now or wait and react to it this upcoming Christmas. It is outstanding. Thanks for another great review.
I grew up on Oak Ridge Boys. Old school clean country like the Statler Brothers and Marty Robins. These guys are the Beach Boys of country. Check out their Christmas song they did together. It's amazing!
an interesting fact about Richard Sterban who sings Bass for the Oak ridge boys, actually sung with a group called The Stamps, and they actually sung back up with Elvis Pressley some.
These two groups have become fast friends. They have so much respect and admiration for each other, too. Fun fact about The ak Ridge Boys bass man Richard Sterban; Prior to joining The Oak Ridge Boys, Sterban toured with J. D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who were singing backup for Elvis Presley at that time. Sterban ultimately became best known for his "oom-pa-pa-oom-pa-pa-mow-mow" bass solo in the group Oak Ridge Boys for a song called Elvira which shot up the charts for many weeks in 1981. The other members of the Oaks are Duane Allen-who was sitting next to Rob, Joe Bonsall- who was trading off parts with Austin, and William Lee Golden- the guy with the long hair, beard, and cowboy hat.
I didn't know there were people who never heard this huge classic! lol. Or the Oaks!! So famous this song. And the Home Free fans at the show absolutely go nuts when they start this song. Oaks have been around forever. They say Home Free is the new modern them, which is a huge, huge compliment. They are sort of country royalty, the Oaks. Still going out and doing huge sellout shows at their age. There is a great song with the two groups done at their Christmas streaming show with Jeffrey East singing also, be sure to watch! Awesome song had never heard before, Beautiful Star of Bethlemem.
Yeah, as a kid (I was born in the later 80s) my mom inundated me with Country music to the point where I actually couldn't stand it. It wasn't until literally 2 years ago, when I started looking at Country/Western/Southern Gospel/Bluegrass or anything with that sound that CMT would play all day. So I am still kind of discovering what I like. Mind you, there's some artists, I've grown up with, that I oved all along. Denver, Hagard, Twitty, Jennings, stuff like that. But mostly, I listened rock, pop, and as I grew up a little, Metal. So yeah, Elvira, and The Oaks were nowhere on my radar. Glad thats changed. Going to be listening to more. Maybe even react to some.
@@DanFromHali You know, I get it. I grew up way before you, back in the '6s and hated any country music, always made sure the radio was changed! But somewhere last 10 years or so started getting into some of it, maybe from watching The Voice and Blake Shelton. I loved Shania Twain first, so maybe from her songs that crossed into pop from just country. So anyway, glad we can appreciate some other types of music and Home Free does a lot of stuff not country. End of the Road (Boys II Men cover), a bunch of things during the pandemic, When a Man Loves a Woman, Never Gonna Give You Up, I Swear, Sunday Best, Meet in the Middle. Then Can't Stop the Feelin' (Just Timberlake cover), Try Everything (Shakira/Trolls song). Of course, country all the way, a favorite Hillbilly Bone! Wow, great bass lead by Tim. Enjoy the journey!! Take care.
Oh my lord you have never heard of Oak Ridge Boys. They were sing back in the 80’s I played this song so much my daughter can sing it word for word. The bass name is Richard, the one you said his voice is like angel is Joe Bonsel can’t remember the other two’s name right off hand they also sing gospel music
I've been a fan of the Oak Ridge Boys for years. Richard Sterban (the bass) had probably the lowest voice I'd ever heard - till I heard Tim Foust! I know you don't really want to react to Christmas songs out of season, but the version of "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" from Home Free's Christmas special, which features HF, the Oaks, and Jeffrey East is amazing. I think you should make an exception - especially if you want to hear more of the Oak Ridge Boys.
Dan, you should post those videos even without the audio so we can see your reaction. We're Home Fries. We know every note of those songs. We'll "hear" them in our heads even without the audio.
@@DanFromHali Dan, you know what they say . . . You can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you can't please all the people all the time! Reaction videos are to see/hear the reaction of others after all. And as the girls have stated, it's your reaction we want. We know the songs! If nothing else, precede the reaction with a disclaimer or superimpose it.
Even though it’s out of season, Austin wrote a Christmas song (something so over due for that season). It shows off his song writing talent and his over the top humor. COLD HARD CASH is one you need to hear for yourself. Also Folsom Prison is great!
I wish I would've seen your other videos. I like your reactions. Just a side note, Geoff Castalucci arranged Elvira for Home Free and The Oak Ridge Boys.
The Oak Ridge Boys have been around a long time. They started out as a gospel quartet. The bass singer of their group sang backup for Elvis with J.D. Sumner and The Stamps Quartet for about a year before joining ORB in 1972.
Be sure to check out Home Free's cover of Love Train by the O'Jays. The guys have fun grooving with their own little dance moments alternating with dance clips submitted by fans. It's topped off with killer lead vocals by Austin. Chris Rupp has his own RU-vid channel. He did a moving duet with Tim to Angels Among Us originally by Alabama. Definitely worth checking out too.
The Oak Ridge Boys and The Statler Brothers were the groups of their times. Recently Hone Free did a cover of the Statler Brothers' song, Flowers On The Wall, was phenomenal. If you get a chance, you should listen to the Statler Brothers' original of the song, and then Home Free. Both are awesome in their own rights. They did the song in honor of Harold Reid, who passed away last year. The Statler Brothers were a favorite of mine, growing up in the 70s
hi! I'm Sharon from fla. I've listened to these guys for years....... this country music at its finest....... I saw t. v. show with oakridge boys it was a Halloween show, that sang Elvira, the real Elvira came out on stage, a few seconds before the song was done, then when the guy like with nice vocals..... Elvira walks over to him hug with "the girls " right in his face... he's got a sh#%t eating 😁 on his face.... she turns to the camera and winks and the Two of them walk off stage...... this was funny...... have a go day
As others have said ,the oak ridge boys have been around for a long time and this was their hit .great acapella group! They said when they recorded this with home free their fan page went crazy ! They have performed with home free several times As others have said the staedler singers were also around at the time and home free have covered “ everyone walking the land “ well worth a listen .powerful!
this is one of my favorites of home free, geoff c from voiceplay did the arrangement. the oakridge boys are country royalty/legends, they did another video with home free for Christmas called beautiful star of bethlehem definitely worth the watch
I will eventually get around to doing Beautiful Star of Bethlehem, but probably not until later in the year. But I agree, this is one of my favorites as well.
Richard stir an oak ridge boys bass is the KING of bass the oaks have been in music a LOOOONGG time these guys are probably in thier 70s and still sound this good! You should check out their performance with them at the grand ole opry
Loved this reaction. The Oak Ridge Boys are a country group from way back. They originally did this song many years ago. This was a remake with Home Free. Tbh, I like this rendition much more, lol. I cant tell you how many times I've listened to this....soooo many times!
@@DanFromHali React to Kenny Rogers' "Lady" too. Written by Lionel Ritchie, it was a huge crossover hit for Kenny and gave him a ton of new fans. The video of his live performance in the white suit was when the song just came out, and it was a great performance.
Home Free just has awesome chemistry with whatever artist they collaborate with. Try the Kenny Rogers collab of Children Go Where I Send Thee or the version of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the Airforce band. And I saw mentioned about Beautiful Star of Bethlehem with the Oak Ridge Boys and Jeffrey East. I truly believe that Home Free can do any genre and do it well. They really pay attention to details and continually work on their craft! I'm sorry your videos didn't work out, luckily, there's a ton more music to choose from, and it's ALL great stuff. Keep up the great work! ❤
Older generation schooling younger!! The oaks became mentors & friends with HF after this collaboration!! Nice Reaction!! The oaks sang country & Gospel!!
Richard Sturban is recorded a the lowest Bass. He used to sing Gospel with Elvis after shows ❤ I saw the Oak Ridge Boys in 1994 🎶 They are incredible...
Hey all, will be getting around to all of the comments tonight, and by then another new video will be up... Albeit not Home Free. I decided to take a shot at checking out Evynne Hollens own channel. I've only ever heard her with Peter, so thought she'd be worth checking out. I have tomorrow's videos uploaded and ready to go as well, with one of them being Home Free's, 9 to 5 (Yes Live, and yes it's the right version... I hope). If anybody is interested in seeing my reaction to Yours and Seven Bridge Road, let me know, or simply like this. I'm worried about the flack I'll get, since low audio got me a comments section filled with grief as it is. I could upload it as private, and maybe either share them on my website, or create a patreon and just have them set as free, I suppose.
Being a big fan of the Eagles, I was really looking forward to seeing your reaction to Seven Bridges Road. Of course, I love when Chance takes lead on anything, so I wouldn’t mind seeing either/both reactions. Low audio was a little difficult to hear, but I’ll just crank up the volume some! ☺️ (I am happy you resolved that issue, though.) Excited for the live 9 to 5 reaction!! Evenness Hollens is as amazing as her husband! I just watched her “Evolved Disney Princesses” video and it was excellent! I never saw the original one, but the redo is amazing.
The Oak Ridge Boys have said that Home Free remind them of themselves when they were their age. Both groups became fast friends when the did this video! Home Free even performed at one or 2 of their stadium shows! Home Free even performed at one of Alabama’s live shows, too! That would be a good reaction for you. Home Free did a mashup of Alabama songs back in 2014 when Chris was with them. You already know how well they do those!
Glad you enjoyed this video- Oak Ridge Boys and Home Free together are just amazing . Oak Ridge Boys have been in the country gospel music industry for 50 ish years and reached out for Home Free to do this "remake" of this song together as they were fans of Home Free and their music.
Just a suggestion you could watch it again and do it as a review instead of a reaction. That way we can still see it and hear your thoughts even though they might be different from the first time you watched them. I love you reactions.
I had a southern grandma so I had to watch the oak ridge boys when I was little. Lol She use to argue with people saying they where country music , she use to say no they where blue grass gospel . Lol
Dallas Frazier wrote this song in 1966, then The Oak Ridge Boys debuted the song on the Billboard Country Charts on April 4th 1981 & it went on to become a No. 1 Country Single!!!!
You're absolutely right...you must check out the Oakridge Boys. They are fantastic and have been around as far back as I can remember (my teenage years, of course) and I'm comin up on the big 80! You should also check out some of HF concert performances of Elvira+-audiences love it!
Man, I love The Oaks! If Tim is a Bass, Richard is a BASS. Mr. Sterban definitely doesn’t have the upper range Tim does, but his lower chest voice is way stronger than Tim’s. I recommend checking out more from ORB, such as Bobby Sue, American Made, Lucky Moon, Y’all Come Back Saloon, and many others.
Well I'm Canadian, also I'm a little younger. Even at 34, growing up in house of Country and Southern Gospel, this was never it. And myself, because of what my parents made me listen to as a kid, I went in the opposite direction. I was all about rock, contemporary rock at the time, and growing up in the 90s, while classic rock may have intersected with Oak Ridge Boys, a lot of what I was exposed to would have been Alternative or even Grunge by the standard. I mean, really if you aren't looking or aren't exposed to something, you're not going to find it... especially with popculture. If there is no cross section between genres, there are artists you just may never discover because you have no interest to discover them. So yeah, its easy to say as someone who is well aware, or a fan of, or just grew up with an artist or group. It's easy for them to say, you must have lived under a rock. Because they are or were a part of their life in some form. But interests, tastes, and even location matters. I mean Tennessee means nothing to me. I'm Nova Scotian. There are plenty of Canadian groups that I am constantly surprised when people say they've never heard of them. I mean if I ask 10 people if they know who The Tragically Hip or Gord Downie are, 9 of them aren't going to have a clue.
Dan do a review of those two songs !1 YOURS is so good ! Oak Ridge Boys used to be a Southern Gospel Quartet but eventually turned to more commercial music, and they scored HUGE with this song back in the early 1980's...this song even crossed over to pop & was a top 10 hit on the Pop charts. You can see them collab with Home Free again from just this last Fall when Home Free had a streamed Holiday special...The ORB & Home Free & Jeffrey East did a spectacular live song singing of Beautiful Star of Bethlehem....react to that ....yes it's may but Austin goes full GOSPEL on his part & it's awesome !
Dan, I think you need to give us a little Christmas in May, and listen to Adam Rupp's arrangement of Do You Hear What I Hear, and one that Tim wrote, Snow Globe. And I know you have Mayday coming up if not already recorded, so I won't beat a dead horse there! Keep the Home Free reactions coming, we're loving it! 💕
Great reaction and new look. Oak Ridge Boys are amazing, starting as Southern Gospel group until 70-80s and because more country artists. They have become friends with Home Free and worked with them and Jeffrey East on song for Home Free Christmas show. Same beautiful harmonies and respect for each other's talents. Going to put out there that Heaven and/ What we ain't got need to be heard....someday 😁
@@DanFromHali hmmmm well that's the point, except I bet it also made you laugh a little 😆. Have a good day Dan and I am really sorry Seven bridges road was one that got burned, beautiful harmonies
Hi Dan, thank you again for entertainment and joy. I‘m struggeling with pain today, so it‘s greatly appreciated. It‘s great that you like this one. The Oak Ridge Boys are huge in the country world. Home free said on several occasions that this collab with them gave them so much credibility in the country world, so it was a huge thing for them. And it‘s just a really fun song. Ps: nice new look! 😉
Home Free and the Oaks, along with Jeffrey East did a video during Christmas called Beautiful Star of Bethlehem that you might enjoy, It was a part of a live show.
It seems I'm one of the few, but I hadn't heard of the Oak Ridge Boys before I saw this either - British, and with no particular exposure to country music. It's so much fun, though, and they are obviously very talented and welcoming to Home Free as up and comers. If you watch Home Free's Meet in the Middle, which I hope you do one day, you'll see Austin has the signed shirt from this video framed and on display in his house.
If you haven't seen these two groups sing O, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem with Jeffrey East, you should check it out for Christmas this year. Austin goes "full gospel" in that one.
Oak Ridge Boys had a hit with Elivira with all rage being the low bass......and of course they reached out to HF to do this collab and took it to another level...they are fans of HF and have toured together as well as have another colab. There was also a colab with Kenny Rodgers "Children go where I send thee", be sure to watch them speaking at the end to find out how that colab happened.
You know, there are lots of videos floating around showing the "making" of these different videos. They're quite interesting and can give you yet another perspective...
Love this one so much... one of my favorites when Chris was still in the group. I can't remember if you've seen HF'S collaboration with Peter Hollens covering U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. It's incredible!
I haven't watched that yet, but I will be. There's a lot on my list. There's so many songs that you have all requested that are really interesting to me. By the end of this, I'll be listening to them all, I dare say.
❤ Loved your rxn. Even tho grew up listening to this & them in the 80's, this version choked me up, had me grinning like a dork! It's Amazing & Glad you Enjoyed it!
Please look into The Oak Ridge Boys. See the enormous difference between them in 70's country. Did you notice near the end when the Oaks signed Austin's shirt?
Always encourage ya to listen to the original ... if nothing else, it sets the stage to what yer about to hear; staying true to the original but HF being who they are - they change it up a bit so not to be a copy :) and not to stray too far - that honor and respect thing again. These direct collaborations are awesome btw. For example -- Dropping back several vids :) ... on yer "American Pie" reaction, I became absent minded, omitting my thought/comment about... When you had commented about the beat/percussion not "meshing" with the bass line - old original vs new modern! Don M, on interview .... Keeping it the same but mix it up, adding in flavor. OK, my thought -- Classics (iconic) need something original to "stay" that way, "familiar" -- other parts can be re-arranged, added to re-new. For me, it worked brilliantly. I do remember when it was a hit being played on AM radio (although barely). Then, with Garth Brooks' Central Park Concert, special guest Don McLean, brought it all back for me -- then came HF's collab with Don.
I 100% agree. I don't think I meant not meshing with the bass line was meant to be negative. I loved that song, and enjoyed how the percussion was modernized to fit in with the classic sound. I think if you are going to redo a song like this, especially a song as well loved as American Pie... (Even if you are doing it with Don), you should add in enough originality to separate it from the original. Otherwise it can just come off as an emulation. Home Free and Dong slayed that song together. Also I think I'm going to react to a couple Oak Ridge Boys songs, because I really dug their sound here.
I'm with Rod I usually go listen to the original because alot of times I've forgotten the video or how it sounds and there have been a few songs I hadn't heard of. I like to compare the 2 songs Live your reactions
When / If you do All About that Bass (if you haven't done it yet, I'm a bit forgetful), do check out Megan Trainor's original video. HF's video is a shot-for-shot homage to hers. (And then check out the behind the scenes / blooper reel for it.)
@@DanFromHali Awesome. I hadn't seen it before I saw HF's, so I had to go check it out after someone mentioned the homage. It makes it all the funnier. Might be worth rewatching to refresh your memory if it's been awhile or you've only seen it once or twice. It's definitely one of their "Video is silly, vocals are still amazingly brilliant" productions. A lot of reactors get confused by those for some reason, like they can't conceive of a song being perfectly sung but still being done for the humor. "I Swear" and "Never Gonna Give You Up" are their most recent examples. They're both so on point on the vocals and so completely cheesy on the video. You'd think on "I Swear" once someone has clocked what Adam Rupp is up to, that would be abundantly clear...
Elvira's been around for about 25 years don't know how come anybody never heard it unless you're a young young person under 20 maybe 15 16 years old oak ridge boys have been around as long as I can remember I seen them at the jamboree in Wheeling West Virginia and they say that song Elvira
Thats like me saying, i dont know why somebody that doesnt listen to heavy metal, doesnt know a popular heavy metal song. Its not something i paid attention to. Not everybody like this music, or grew up around this music
This is an old song and hit from 40 years ago? I think the two groups really like each other. Richard Sterban and Tim are such good basses. They collaborated live with Star of Bethlehem last Christmas. Such a fun song. I’ve seen concerts where Home Free does this song and gets the audience involved. Good reaction
