I had a cassette tape of Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA when I was a kid. I used to walk around listening to it on my walkman. Even as a child this song gave me goosebumps and made me cry. Now it still does, even more so. I was a Marine Corps Brat, and I am now an Army wife. I am proud to be an American.

I was in service in the late 70’s and I remember the mood for the USA sucked. In America and abroad and civilians still hated us in the military at the time. After I got out a few years roll by and I heard this song and broke down. I thought finally we’re gonna come back together. I tear up every time I hear this song. Thank you Lee Greenwood and God Bless the USA . 🇺🇸 and God Bless the men and women in the service of this country.

I’ve heard Lee Greenwood perform this live a couple times and I’ve watched countless videos and they were all great. With that I rate this as my 2nd favorite version. My most memorable experience was actually a cover version. The Reverend John Steer, a Vietnam War veteran sung this at a Veteran’s convention in Kokomo, Indiana. My dad’s cousin was a Vietnam Vet and I had the privilege of attending with him. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was Saturday September 15, 2001. The weekend after 9/11. The experience of hearing hundreds of Vietnam Veterans sing along with this is something I will never forget. This is a not so close second.

Just an FYI...my husband and I both ADORE CANADA! Many road trips with our twins to Banff, Jasper, & more. I worked for AMERICAN AIRLINES VACATIONS & Bill & I went to MONTREAL & the people were so wonderful. Worked with us on French.. I can’t let go of the things I bought there. It was just after the BIG ICE STORM. We had a terrible one too in TULSA, OK. Trees breaking like we were in a war zone. We had to leave our home for downtown where the electrical cables are buried. Cost big bucks for hotel but we met some nasty people who expected gourmet dinners and refused to pay their bills‼️ Can you believe what jerks people can be?

From the first time heard Lee Greenwood’s song,it stirred such pride in my heart for my country! I was in Green Bay, WI last year, waiting to see Our President speak, and Lee’s song came on and I literally had tears in my eyes standing with my husband and one of my best friends waving to President Trump and singing along to Lee’s song with thousands of people’s voices packed to the hilt!

The year this song came out, he was at our county fair in concert. When the line Stand up came up the fireworks started. It was not preplanned. So everytime I hear Stand Up I hear the fireworks blast. It gives me chills everytime. This is my favorite song. I sang it in the courus for the Junior Olympics at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville , TN.

I heard Home Free in Fargo N. D. and the USAF singers at the Bayfront Blues park ,on the Duluth waterfront. Live music is the greatest, too bad about no fans at concerts and no events. Staying safe is more important dont you think?

Hearing that Irving Azoff was the one that insisted on God Bless the USA be a single, doesn't surprise me. Though I love so many different kinds of music and artists, Dan Fogelberg, Mr. Azoff's first client, has always been my favorite since I heard him open for the Eagles back in the summer of '75. So yeah, that man knows music and talent. May the Lord continue to bless you, our country and those that serve our her in the military, including so many in my own family. My hubby, both our Dad's, our son and daughter, son in law, cousin's, nephews, uncles, great uncles, and my great great grandfather to name off the top of my head.

My dad is an Vietnam Vet, Air Force, he said there was US Air Force Band in the 60s. He loved this song. He came back from Vietnam weighing 115lbs, I have his everyday shits and they are a men’s X-small. He still hates anything out of a can. He said they would get a drop and the beer would be hot. So, of course beer in bottles for my dad. Coming for a military family this is amazing!

The best a cappella version I witnessed was a group that had a retired Marine Sergeant Major. During the song prior he would step off the stage and walk back in to that song in his dress blues. During the song in only a voice a Sergeant Major can muster he would command veterans by branch “STAND UP!” At the end he would be standing in the center of the stage saluting the veterans of all 5 branches.
