Tim's higher ranges, Austin's belting, Rob's silky smooth overlaying voice, Chance's glorious bass, and the human drum kit that is Adam... too much awesomeness in one video.. help ahhhhhhhh
I know everyone knows how great Tim is but honestly Austin is the first high-tenor I’ve heard who doesn’t sound squeaky when hitting high notes, he is easily one of my favorite voices in the music industry.
I agree. For me it's between Austin and Chance for the best voices in this group. Tim (whom I love) can do lots of stuff with that mad range but IMHO he's not world-class at anything apart from that amazing growl technique he busts out sometimes (edit: his arranging skills are also excellent - see Helplessly Hoping etc). Austin and Chance, on the other hand, have legit top-quality 'recording' voices. Austin's voice soars thrillingly without apparent effort and Chance's is as rich, warm and engaging as anyone in that laid-back country bass-baritone style. I don't want to leave out Rob here - he has more soul in his delivery than anyone else when he feels like it (see End of the Road!) but he's lighter-sounding and not so polished as Austin. Overall though I think Home Free are significantly more than the sum of their parts. I wouldn't expect any of them to do really great things solo but as a quintet they absolutely rock my world.
Morpyoto If he’s the first one you’ve heard that doesn’t sound squeaky then he’s the only Hi Tanner that you’ve heard...... But I agree that he is AMAZING!!!
@@toospunky3735 sammeee!! That performance was amazing!! But I also loved him so much in their live popspring performance of Can't Sleep Love. The part where he rapped and finally ended the rap with that high glass shattering note!!!!! 😍😍
One of the things I love most about this group is 1: everyone gets a chance to shine and not just one main singer. 2: all the singers have amazing range and control. This group keeps blowing my mind!
Everyday, along with all their others. They are a constant in my house. I cook, clean, paint & everything else in between while their beautiful, amazing voices ring out throughout my house. They are so addicting.
It may just be because he sings lead in “Go Rest High,” but Rob really does remind me so much of a younger Vince Gill. He has the most gorgeous, rich, crystal clear tenor voice that’s perfectly suited for bluegrass. I mean, Rob sounds great no matter what he’s doing - even rapping in the “Butts Medley.” 😂 But, country/bluegrass and R&B really, really showcase his voice.
How does Chance's voice always sound so beautifully gentle, no matter what he's singing? He sounds like a dad singing a lullaby, his voice is so soft and deep.
The first 40 seconds of this video justified every High School Choir Directors' continued struggle to help developing male singers understand that their head voice is just as important as their chest voice and that it is important to develop both whether they like it or not! Well Done, Tim! This is a fantastic track! PS:Chance's voice makes me melt!
I can’t even front with that, that literally is just true, honestly me as a bass 1 in chorus I have a pretty large range if u were to count my subharmonic and growling techniques in low range and a highest falsetto of B5, having probably the largest range in the class, yet what u say here is just true, we never use falsetto unless it’s a tenor doing it and it sucks honestly
Chance was the bass for street corner symphony. Now he’s a bari and he makes all of us jealous. I can hit that B1........ and even down to F#1 is vocal fry and subharmonic.
It is just Tim showing off his range. And Adam Chance is a Baritone which is a higher bass range but not quite tenor. I sing baritone but I can hit bass notes.
So here's how I think the conversation went. Tim: so we're covering Mayday. How can we have a little fun with it? Chance: Ooh I know! Let me show off my bass skills a little bit. Austin, Rob, and Adam agree that doing that could work. Tim: Hey I've got an idea! What if I share the lead with Austin and Rob only I'll sing entirely in my upper end? That'll really mess with the fans. And that is how I imagine the conversation went.
I liked Chris Rupp but I love Adam Chance. I became a huge Home Free fan back when Chris was still part of the group, and they were really good then, but I honestly think that they are even better now. I think that the big difference is the difference in their ranges. With the range that Adam Chance has, in my honest opinion, I think it makes the group more versatile. Before they wouldn't have been able to do this arrangement this way and this was amazing!
I agree with you. I love that they (Chance and Tim) alternate the bass range notes, but I also love that there is more of the baritone- range notes in their arrangements now. There was much less of that when Chris was in the group, since he'd trio with Rob and Austin at the top range most of the time. I'd love it if Chris were to return (and he did start the group in the first place, so props there!), but I wouldn't want Chance to go anywhere if he did return. Chance's solos are great and he adds so much, IMHO, when he's harmonizing!
Fully agree. I love Chris Rupp and we all owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for what he did for this group over twelve years (check out his solo stuff, it's wonderful!), but Adam Chance is arguably the best thing that's ever happened to Home Free. Like Tim, he's so versatile that he increases exponentially the possibilities for arranging, and whilst Tim's low growl is just astonishing, Chance has his own party trick in that delicious rich tone when he takes the lead, far better than Tim's if I'm honest. For me, it's between Chance and Austin for the best 'recording' voice in this group (although I love Rob for his personality and soul!). Amazing that they have so much capability in one group.
I see how both guys bring something to band but think a few songs sounded better when Chris was in group and he was funny. I wish Chris would come back and do a few concerts with them, I see no reason there can’t be 6 guys
I'm mostly a Pentaholic and know very little about Home Free. But when heard Tim (now I'm learning their names) singing in the beginning, I was like "What?? Isn't that the base??:O" And then when I heard Chance singing, I said to myself "What is going on??? I could have sworn that the first guy is the base!" And both nailed their parts too. And damn Austin's voice!! Everything in the video was really good, but Austin's part is just my favorite part of this video.
@@electricheartpony I'm a huge PTX fan myself, but to be honest, I find the Home Free guys to be more talented overall. Not by much of course, they're both very close to each other, but HF are a little bit better imo (in terms of vocal skills at least).
Ok, I just realised that I keep praising Tim and Chance and even Austin and Rob, but I never mention Adam's skills without which the songs would only be half as awesome. Adam, your beat boxing, and sound effect skills are off the charts and I know you also work a lot on the arrangements, which are almost always even better than those of the original versions, this song being a case in point. Also the moments when we get to hear you sing are (too) rare and precious gems.
.....and don't forget that the beautiful arrangement of "Do you hear what I hear?" was arranged by Adam. Listen to that one on a good pair of headphones/earbuds via a headphone amplifier--Wow! Incredible.
Tim's range is just totally ridiculous. Even 3 octaves is pretty outlandish for most people, but he's gone well over that. Probably THE most talented singer I've ever seen in my entire life. Great warm sounds, HUGE range, and he can do a HARMONICA with his voice. He's got it all folks!
Nadiv Kaspi There are a few rock singers w/as high or slightly bigger range, but his voice is also just beautiful, sooo low & like you said warm, like curling up w/a soft blanket... :)
A0 which could also be described as double low A or the lowest note on a full size piano is is lowest note and his highest is A5 or A below Soprano high C
I've listened to this song, and the original over, and over, and over. But dang it! Home Free kills it! This was supposed to be a cover song for the one by Cam. What do you do, as an artist, when your 'guest' artists sound better than you? And when your song, become theirs?
No Matter how many times I watch this song, it never ceases to Amaze me that you guys can literally sing ANYTHING and it sounds good. Tim can do Bass perfectly but he can also be a Tenor if he wants to. Chance is a really awesome Baritone but he can also sing Bass, Adam is a walking and talking human instrumental kit (Seriously is there a sound he can't make?), Rob and Austin have such silky smooth tones when singing High Tenor
Holy moley Chance, what a note! It's like opposite day - Tim singing all those high notes and then Chance doing Tim's "thing"! AWESOME as always, boys!
I heard this song on Spotify before I saw the video and I was like, " I don't think this high voice is Austin or Rob, who could it be?... and that deep part from Tim, marcellous but this just doesn"t sound like Tim....why?" And then I checked out the video :)) And my jaw dropped. I was always amazed by Tim's low notes and still, this was a moment when I said to myself, this guy must be a genetically mutant person, now way can someone be this talented. But he is. :)) And of course I did fell in love with Chance's voice as well.
I know exactly what you mean! Though Tim hit a couple of high notes when they did Ring of Fire live for Sing Off, I don't think I've ever heard him go this high - it's inspirational! At least I can hit Chance's note... :)
Found this randomly after years. The thing that strikes hardest about this song is the piercing clarity of Austin's notes, and how pure his higher range comes through without a hint of cracking. Absolutely incredible.
Fourth time and I feel a need to show Austin some love. He really manages to portray the heartache of the lyrics with his voice and facial expressions.
This feels so different from what you usually do and I LOVE it. So somber, but still gives all of you a moment to shine. Adam's beat is amazing for the song, and I like how you all got a big moment. Tim just nailed the tenor from the beginning. Rob's verse was beautiful and there was so much emotion in it! Austin just kills the chorus every time. But WHOA--Did. Not. See. Chance. Coming. His moment gave me CHILLS. I don't know if I have ever heard him nail a note like that before. Just WOW. Loved seeing Tim and Chance completely reverse roles for this song, what an awesome surprise. Way to go, guys!!! Keep it up and see you all for the FIRST TIME in March!!!!!
Makaria Rhodes You're gonna love them even more so live! I saw them in concert for the first time in October, and I was just blown away. These guys are incredible!
Sambo Mansy I have wanted to see them since 2014, and even more since 2016 (when Chance joined; I've followed him since SCS was on the Sing Off) so you bet I'm excited!!!

I knew of Pentatonix first, so I thought they had to be the most incredible a cappella group ever. But then I learned of Home Free. And now I feel so confused. 🤯😂 Every individual that has ever been a part of either group is disgustingly talented. LOL. What I wouldn’t give to have just the tiniest bit of such talent. But, I have to say...DAMN, Tim’s range is CRAZY!!! 5+ octaves!?! His tenor in this sounds just as natural and effortless as his subwoofer-esque, room rattling bass. How?!? How does that happen?
I love Home Free. Every one of you are above and beyond talented. But, Rob stole my heart the first time I watched y'all sing and he steals it every time he sings
I know this group and love them all. I don’t know anyone’s name as I can’t ever remember names of individuals in a group. But the man in the glasses voice is so smoothe and beautiful it keeps me coming back.
Amazing. Many groups focus on one or two individuals, but Home Free showcases everyone of the group in their own individual rights and talents, and together they make a greater than great big sound. I could say a hundred things about these guys, and still not do them enough justice, lets just say I have to have me some Home Free with my morning coffee to get my day going. God bless you indeed, guys.
PandasAreLove PandasAreLife , Excuse me, you didn't mention his range, only that he was finally getting a "chance to show his stuff." I thought I was being helpful, not starting an "I knew him longer than you and better than you" contest.
I heard Cam's original and love this cover *so* *much* *better* ! I've listened to some other a cappella groups, and notice that they lack Home Free's ability to fill the void of 'no instruments'--their sound is so rich and full. A truly gifted group of men...& how lucky are we to get to listen to them!
Listen to their version of Josh Turner's "Your Man". Tim sings the main part mostly solo, and shows off his range better than any other of their songs.
Our singing Dragon Tim enters another realm here, Chance singing low notes so beautifully, the singing by Rob and Tim in the same key as Cam and Austin with his angelic voice, the camera work, the lighting., everything is next level! WELL DONE EVERYONE!
I can't get enough of this song! Tim singing Tenor in the beginning is wonderfully unexpected, but a wonderful showcase of his range. Each member was spotlighted beautifully!!! Another song I wouldn't mind having stuck in my head all day!
Holy crap that is fantastic!!! As much as I adore his earthquake inducing notes, the change up of having Tim in the upper end of his range and Chance dropping the lowest notes is awesome! *squeal of fangirl glee*
You are overbearing; I'm not in love I don't wanna tell you We've been contemplating how to give it up But I can't convince you We've been hopelessly holding too tight When we don't even need to And as the water fills this sinking ship I know we have to leave too Mayday, mayday This is an emergency Mayday, mayday You've gotta let me leave I'm lying here, inches away And you can't hear me call mayday, yeah, yeah Said I'm moving on, cause things were getting rough But here I am in your bed I strung it on too long, afraid to be alone Now we're in over our heads It's either sink or swim, we've tried so many times For worse or for better It tears my heart in two to leave it all behind And say goodbye forever Mayday, mayday This is an emergency Mayday, mayday You've gotta let me leave I'm lying here, inches away And you can't hear me call mayday, yeah, yeah Oh, you gotta let me leave Oh, the weight will make us sink Oh, could you please help me leave? Oh, abandon ship with me, yeah Mayday, mayday This is an emergency Mayday, mayday You've gotta let me leave I'm lying here, inches away And you can't hear me call mayday Mayday, mayday (You are overbearing; I'm not in love) (I don't wanna tell you)
I love the chorus, but seriously, the verses need reworked. the song is too fantastic for the tone of this song in the verses, they need to be more sincere, more melancholy more personal, in my humble opinion.. One day I am going to write new lyrics for the verses and have them match the stunning chorus.
@@elizabeths50 Naw, I love the positive vibes this song has. The person wanting out is upbeat, knowing that their life is about to start over, fresh and new, without the old baggage.
I don't know if y'all are aware but as someone that loves to watch reactions to your videos by other people it has become a thing where your fans instruct the reactors NOT to do this video until the reactor can name each of you and what part you usually sing in the group, then you will see the fans start telling the reactors it's time for them to do MAYDAY. I find it so awesome, this song has become an icon and you ALL are just amazing!!!
Tim is amazing, as are both Rob and Austin. Adam Chance really did more than just hold down the bass on this one. Having said all that, and they are terrific, but Adam Rupp really killed it on this one. The beatboxing is the most underrated part of this in my opinion. I've listened to it multiple times and I'm always blown away by the job he did on this. Fantastic!!!!!
I almost cried this is so beautiful- the way you guys sang this is heavenly, at first I was surprised at tims high notes and austins voice pulled it together and ADAM CHANCE BRO THE BARITONE PART SHAKED MY SOUL
Thank you Home Free. I married in 1985 and, in 1993, while pregnant with my second child, I realized that my marriage would end someday and that I would have to be the one to call it. It took me 10 years from that day to finally jump ship and take my kids into a new life. Now that daughter is 28. She has asked me off and on for the last few years what it felt like during those last 10 years of marriage. I’ve never been able to nail it done exactly. Thank you for doing it for me. When she is home with her fiancé from Nashville at Thanksgiving, I will now have this to point to - this song, sung in the way you have, is exactly like those years felt. (God and a sense of humor gently rocked us into the beautiful, fun and joyous lives we have today.) By the way, I wanted BADLY to see you in Columbus a couple weeks ago but couldn’t work it out. I’ll catch you in Nashville in 2022. Keep making the beautiful music happen!
I was a sculptor by trade for many years, so that may make me look at things through that lens, but I love their natural hand movements, it's really quite beautiful to watch. Austin is such a good performer as well as a singer, and did an extraordinary job in this video. I love everything these guys do..... They've turned me country.
Annemay Seyfried Very true. I was fortunate enough to see them live and meet them. That was back when Chris was still in the group. Hopefully I’ll be able to see them again. What an experience it was!
I’ve never heard a better group than Home Free I pray they keep level heads and stay together it would break a lot of ladies hearts.. keep winking Chance. 💕💕💕💕
Well it look like Tim is the first to lose fans for them when he got on FB and called his fans ignorant then came back on later and said guess I some fans and that’s fine with me. What a a hole and the language he used very vulgar. Lost me and many others hope the rest of them keep their opinions to them selves or there will be no more home free I’ve already thrown their cd s in the trash wonder if he remembers what happened to Dixie Chicks.
what a richness, Tim singing tenor, Chance bass, Rob en Austin as smooth tenors and then a beatboxer who is so suberb and tastfull, this is the best of the best!
To be honest, I did not expect Tim to go that high in this song. Oh my god! That was a surprise. And then Austin building ON TOP of that?! Holy moly! THIS WAS AWESOME!! Great job guys! Initially, I thought: wait, if Tim's doing that, then who's doing the bass line? Well, we found out who by the end of the song. This sounds so clean and well built. Perfect harmony. Well done, guys! Well done!
My goodness, you got the bass (Tim) singing tenor, and the baritone (Chance) singing bass. Such versatility, I love it! Fun fact for those who don't know: Chance was the bass for Street Corner Symphony, the runners-up for the Sing Off Season Two.
Wow. I wasn’t watching, just listening, when this song began, and I could’ve sworn it was Austin singing the beginning, but it was Tim! Impressive. You guys actually have five possible tenor voices and two basses. Just ... wow.
Actually, if you have ever watched any of the "drum solos" done by Adam Rupp, from live concerts, you can hear him hit some pretty deep notes, also...at least down into the baritone range!
To say I love you guys, is a grand understatement! Your harmony, and deep rooted love of the Lord, releases waves of spiritual healing for a hurting world! God Bless You All!!! His Spirit ever growing in you, and through you!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Bravo gents!
A beautiful compilation of God's instruments, on display for all to hear. I love the canvas of God! All of you, show just how majestic our God is every time you open your mouth and sing. God Bless you all.
This is my new favorite song, I love their voices and I loved how they changed it up, they are all so talented. But that last note in chances line oh my goodness, felt it all through my body.
Cannot help it! Every time I hear Chance hit the low baritone... I get goosebumps. As if Tim were bad enough with his bass, Chance goes off and shows off his hidden talent. I love it!!!
Going to see Home Free in Cincinnati tonight, been waiting since last year, my Birthday present from my daughter, got canceled twice, now we get to go! So excited!
It's so great hearing Tim in his higher register and opening a song. Don't get me wrong, I still really love Tim's Bass voice. But most of all, I love watching you guys sing, especially Austin and Tim. And Adam did a great job on the bass vocals, so smooth. Love you guys.
Exactly... When my daughter kept telling me that Tim was the bass it was hard to believe till I watched other videos. Now I'm an ardent fan...I've listened to this song over 40times!
WHAT. GREAT. RANGE. TIM. AND. ADAM CHANCE!!! WOW!!! Guys... gotta say that I was a massive Pentatonix fan once I 'discovered' them. Of course, they eventually lead me to you guys an I've been an even bigger fan of your music ever since! Love the tonality and quality of all of your voices as they blend with one another - including the outstanding job done by Adam Rupp on the beat box!! Love all you guys and am hoping at some point you do a real throwback cover of something truly old school like The Platters or the Inkspots. =)
