HOME FREE Reaction | Sea Shanty Medley :-) 

There isn't a weak link in Home Free. Every one of them shine at one point or another. Sometimes all in the same song, sometimes in various different songs. Everybody shone in this one. The harmonies, the bass line, the solos, were all stellar. I'm especially a fan of Adam Rupp, so I pay particular attention to his performances and he crushed the vocal percussion/beat boxing in this one. Wave sounds, castanets! Yes, Adam. I loved the way the tempo picked up with each song change. So many people just blow right by Adam's beat boxing because his sounds are so precise, I think they forget that it's a human person and not actual drums, etc. Home Free just speaks to my heart like no other group. Great reaction, thanks.

Dan, there are so many Home Free has made over the last two years that are amazing. One you might find interesting is the collab they did with Don McLean on the 50th anniversary of his iconic song "American Pie".

The HF guys showing their creativity once again: using the TikTok format to manage their separation during quarantine ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Tim staying so still to keep from falling out of the boat he's standing in--it makes me laugh because every time I see him in this I think of the animated pirates in Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean. 😆 And those castanets!! Adam Rupp's percussion and sound effects are second to none!! 🥰

My suggestions: “End of the Road “ is a must- Rob lead, and he’s amazing. “I Can’t Outrun You”- Chance lead, 5 part harmony, and Chance directed the video. “When a Man Loves a Woman “- Austin lead with superb backing vocals and percussion. “Champagne Taste (on a beer budget)”- Tim lead, and he wrote the song. It’s quite funny. Another fun one is “Butts Medley”- a hilarious and brilliant mashup.

Kudos to Chance for pushing the group to do this. Fantastic job!! 🔥💯

How good are these guys? The fun & energy in this is infectious. This was done during quarantine so none of the guys were even together. The editing of this was great & was done in the Tik Tok style. Love all the guys parts, with Tim's rumbling bass underlying it all. And Adam's beatboxing is phenomenal as always including doing the sound of castanets. Amazing how he increased the tempo from one song to another. Glad you are giving Adam props as he is my favorite & the best vocal percussionist out there in my opinion. They do this song in their live shows & it sounds just as good.

Home Free is amazing. My favorites are When a Man Loves a Woman, My Church, Man of Constant Sorrow (Adam’s harmonica without a harmonica is amazing), and Adam Ruprs Drum Solo. Definitely check them out

I think Tim and Austin both wanted to be Jack Sparrow, so they split him- Tim got the costume and Austin took the mannerisms. Tim couldn't move that much because he's actually standing in a boat - it's hard to see.

The whole opening Wellerman was done to pay homage to the TikTok viral video as you noted, from Chances outfit, to pounding on the guitar back, to the floating HF TikTok style logo and the Black and White......they did release this on TikTok and asked people to duet them.....

i see these guys any time they are within 300miles of me and i can assure you that adam's vocal percussion sounds just as realistic live. when they start this song everyone goes nuts

With each song it seems the tempo gets faster and more things are happening until the end. I loved the castanet sounds Adam was doing in the last song.

Adam Chance is the one who wanted to do this after the TicTok craze of sea shanties it was one of the first of their quarantine releases so all of them were experimenting with video and recording remotely.

Loved Adam Rupp’s “castanets” and wave splashes in the last song! Everyone was wonderful. Great to hear Chance’s clear true baritone, so glad he talked the guys into doing this. Like workman songs, sea shanties were songs that were sung by sailors to pass the time by sailors. Sailors back in the olden days would have long stretches of nothing to do on a boat the size of a large house. Sea shanties were catchy by their very nature. If they weren't, no one sung them and they were forgotten. Most told stories. Lies a Lurrigan is one of my favorites. Its a Scottish song about a captain braving a terrible storm and telling his men to go below if they didn't trust him or were too scared. Most versions are in English with just the title phrase in Scott's Gaelic. Its a really cool song

Austin's musical theater training really shows through in this one. And those castanets from Adam!

This was one of 'quarantine' videos where they were taping and recording in their homes. Others in the series are equally good - they include "Quarantine", "Down to the Honkytonk", "Sunday Best", "Moonshine" and "Meet in the Middle". Their producer Darren Rust is a genius!

If I am not mistaken this was still during quarantine and filmed in each of their homes across the country. Tim was standing in a boat in his brother-in-laws backyard, the rest of the guys were home from what I heard. When quarantine started they bought equipment to record and then send it to their producer in Minnesota.

You'll run out of keyboard before you run out of Tim's bass... Oh, and Adam added castanets to his repertoire in this.

I love sea shanties and HF did an amazing job with this medley! In a previous comment, I mentioned Adam does a harmonica (Man of Constant Sorrow), castanets (heard hear in Sea Shanty Medley), and a jet flyover at the end of God Bless the USA featuring HF, Lee Greenwood, and the Air Force Singing Sergeants.

The sound Adam is making at the end are the Castanets, also known as clackers and often used in Spanish music.

Adam Chance usually gives a very discreet wink in a video - in this one he gives it on "And an old salty Yank for a captain too", screwing his face up like Popeye the Sailorman. (Anyone else remember Popeye?) The extra noise that you heard near the end was Adam making the sound of sea spray. I think this may have been the first of the quarantine videos, when they didn't have much sophisticated equipment (apart from Adam, who is Mr Technical) so this is shot on phone. Fairly soon they got the special equipment so the later quarantine videos don't have the tik-tok look,

I love the sound of the waves hitting the side of the ship. I almost missed it the first 10 times I watched it... Not 11 times, because that is excessive. 😏

Look for drum solo done live on stage. There are a couple out there. You will be blown away as a "beat boxer".

They ended the medley by singing the titles of all of the shanties that were in the medley, very clever....... They come up with the neatest arrangements and put their stamp on the covers they perform.

The bass… usually Tim is doing the bass. What makes you think he isn't doing it here? Adam is amazing, but he doesn't do all the beatboxing. Remember it's a video, there are still “tracks”. I'm positive I see Tim doing the bass at one point.

considering that voiceplay didn't comeout with their cover of 'Don't Talk About Bruno' until about 2 months ago. Wouldn't it be more like their beatboxer sounding like Adam Rupp since they came out with this video during the Quarentine about 2 Years ago? when doing a reaction to a group you can't be referencing them to other groups. you will be offending the fans of the the group you happening to you are reacting to. in this case Home Free to Voice Play. you can't compare them simply because they are both a capella groups. Voice Play has no particular genre and hrows in a LOT of theatrics while Home Free while very creative in their own right is mainly a country a capella group. you are comparing apples to oranges, they are both fruit, but nothing alike. keep picking up on the little things and talking about them, learn the more technical terms for what they are doing musically, you are doing great.

To say that Adam Rupp is a "good beat boxer" and then liken him to Voice Play (besides pasting in a clip of them) for this reaction is actually insulting. Adam is "World Class". You apparently don't recognize castanets when you hear them either. You may be in over your head as a reaction channel. Your lack of experience doesn't exactly give you the ability to talk about or critique the subtleties and nuances that can be present and not just with Home Free.
