Why do you think he moves away from the mic???? He is standing straight, he doesn't have to move AT ALL. The only reason he moves away from the mic is because he knows his volume is going to be louder and with the same distance what the audience would hear is not going to be even, He moves away SO THAT HIS VOICE IS NOT CHANGING. Apparently you do not understand singing well, because especially this type of almost like an acrobat singing, it's impossible to have the same amount of volume. If you do you'd see how much he keeps the distance with the mic is exactly correlated with that how loud it's going to be for those notes.
Dimash became known to the world after Chinese contest of professional singers. Various "tricks" with voice in China are forbidden. In order to have an idea how he sounds or did in 2017, the year of the contest, and be absolutely sure it is live, just watch him in Singer.

Not a lot of long phrases because he is 55 here. You should listen to his “Nice and Easy” album or “Come Fly with Me” records and you hear long phrases. Listen to his “ol Man River” recording. He learned long phrases from trumpet band leader Tommy Dorsey
Once you get to know Dimash the person you'll realise he has far more respect for his Dears than to give us anything but himself when he's live. Even during covid when some of his 'concerts' were digital, it was straight up him we were listening to. When the Dears buy the tickets they know they're getting no bells and ALL the whistle(s) tones. 😜 I'd love to hear your reaction/analysis to Ikanaide - Tokyo Jazz when you get some time.
