Avi was great in this. HF's bass, Tim Foust has an almost six octave range. Having Avi there allowed him to flex his tenor muscles. In 2016, Chris Rupp (co founder, along with his bro. Adam, beat boxer extraordinaire ) left to pursue a solo career. He was replaced with Adam Chance, called Chance who is a baritone/bass with a lovely voice and great range as well. This has given the group a lot more versatility and more combinations with harmony, bass line and who is best for which part. One of my favorite songs they do is Do You Hear What I Hear. Adam R. did the amazing arrangement.

Tim's last note is a G1. (When they did it on the Sing Off they were down half a step so he rattled the stage with an F#1.) Keep in mind he's got a full octave BELOW that note plus four octaves ABOVE that note. "Do You Hear What I Hear" is my favorite tour de force of theirs. Arranged by Adam Rupp you will not believe it's acapella. There is one spot where the melody is passed through five octaves in five seconds. It was filmed just a few miles from my home in Minnesota in -20 weather. Clear a spot on the floor for your jaw. You will love it. Thanks for the Home Free reactions and for keeping them coming!

Yeah...a few folks think that last note is Avi, and it’s all Tim. Avi can hit low notes, but Tim can sing them and hold them. Crazy stuff. Also, I love that Avi is “converted” to the chicken fried way of doing things at the end as he dons a cowboy hat. Nice touch to the video. On the other hand, Avi gets this reverberation from simultaneous head and throat voice that I’ve never heard. And he’s smooth like buttah. How great to get the best of both in this one song!!!

Avi is a beast. I saw him live when he did a small tour in Aug. He's fantastic and has quite a few solo songs out there. He actually just released one last Friday called Get Down. Change on the Rise, The Summit, Field and Pier, Quarter Past Four, Sweet Adeline, Hey Ya, etc. All fantastic.

Tim, that’s Adam Rupp doing the beat boxing. He’s a human musical instrument. Avi can get low, but Tim is the super bass you hear at the end of the song. Tim has five octave range. There is a youtube video of HF at an outdoor concert where Tim literally blew out the sound system when he went super low. I recommend that you watch HF’s third sing off where they sing an abridged version of “Ring of Fire”. You will get to hear and feel Tim blow away the audience when he goes ultra low.

Both Avi & Tim have blown speakers in concert (utube vids of a few for both) Tim is older hence lower and more country sound and many ranges....Avi is a true Basso Profundo opera trained more chocolate aged whiskey sound(hmmm who voice do I like better lol). Both are so amazing but completely different tones. Adam is the cleanest beatboxer I have ever heard...Kevin is super multi talented(plays cello, sax, piano, sings, beatboxes...etc) but Adams cleaner on snare drum and rims. Sing off might have been short lived but look at the amazing Acapella music we got...1 pop 1 country both phenomenal!

Tim has a range of 6 octaves though. In Sold! you can hear him growl an impressive A0 and in a live version of goodbye my coney island baby he "screams" to an A6. Also in 1 bass battle video between him, Geoff Castellucci, Avi Kaplan, Tomi Pizur and Jules Cruz he went down to an A-1 supergrowl in Home Free's arrangement of Country Roads but that might be wrong though it sounds legit. I've put the link here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tFc0jk7gRsI.html

Definitely an Avi fan here. Tim is truly amazing as well. For me, there is something about Avi's voice that just goes straight to the soul. Since he left PTX, he has done some solo work. Change on the rise is written by him, and all the low bass you hear in the background is Him as well. Great one. I agree with Melanie, Black is the color of my true love's hair is also a great one to get a good feel for Avi's voice. GREAT reaction!!!!

Careful, you've already become a Pentaholic and now are on your way to becoming a Home Fry as well ;) Gotta say, country has never been high on my list, but I will listen to, and enjoy, every single thing Home Free does! And what could be better than a capella with 2 basses?? Yes, Tim Foust has a somewhat greater range than Avi, but for me...there's just something about Avi's voice (regardless of where on the scale he sings) that really gets me in the feels. It's just so...chocolate: rich, smooth and sweet. Loved your reaction; it's great seeing someone get blown away :D Seven Bridges Road, is another of Home Free's fantastic videos. Never thought it could be better than the original, but their harmonies there...also mind blowing.

Tim (the bass from Home Free) had the low notes at the end, not Avi. I love Avi (he is probably my favorite bass of all the singers out there) but Tim can hit several notes lower than Avi. (I think Tim's lowest note is an A0, which is REALLY low). He apparently taught Avi how to go a bit lower than his original range (I believe that Avi can now hit a D1, whereas in his early days with Pentatonix his lowest note was an A1 (which, oddly enough, is higher than a C1-G1; the range runs from Cflat-B#, rather than the logical Aflat-G#.

To supplement this, Tim taught Avi some "Vocal Fry" tricks, to get lower in his range. Tim's range is re-fricking-diculous, top and bottom. Avi's voice is a little warmer and richer than Tim's, but they're both fantastic bass singers.

@Cindyannef
@Cindyannef 4 года назад
I loved your reaction, but it was Tim (from Home Free) that hit that last low note, which he held steadily for 12 seconds. According to the experts, that is virtually unheard of for a bass that goes that deep.. He also hit that high tenor note, just before that, too. He has a 6 octave vocal range and can slide up and down those scales in a blink of an eye. Avi can't go even close to that deep bass note, which is why he was tipping his hat to Tim at the very end. Tim and Avi have been friends for a long time, and it was Tim that taught Avi how to go as low as he does now. And yes, Adam (their beat boxer) is a beast. He always tends to make the audience forget that yes, they are and always will be an A Capella group. He's like a one man band all on his own. He does a 8-9 minute solo act during their live concerts. There's plenty of fantastic fan video's of that act. Here's one of his latest, if you want to see it.....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LUSvD2c-y2M.html

Had to chuckle about you thinking it wasn't a capella when Adam started his beat boxing. I had watched dozens of RU-vid live shows and videos before we got to go see them live. So I knew how they sounded, that it was all voices. Then the live show started and my husband said I thought they didn't have drums and instruments. I sat there a minute so puzzled and then the lights came on the stage and we saw them and yep, it was just them and their incredible voices! But hearing them live you would still swear there were drums at least. Be sure to look up one of Adam's beat boxing videos he does about 7-9 mins solo in every show. It will blow your mind for sure! You sit there shaking your head the whole time! Thanks a lot for your great comments and reactions. (And you do know it's Tim singing the lowest notes in Ring of Fire, right? That's when Avi tips his hat to him at the end of the song. Per what they say, Tim helped Avi learn how to go lower. They are both special for sure, as all the guys are.) Keep them coming! Hey dude, sorry you have been catching some of those folks from the hate train. I don't understand why people have to be like that. The old saying, "if you ain't got nothing good to say, then don't say anything" comes to mind. I love all kinds of music. I can appreciate Opera for the skill, training, and talent that it takes to perform, but know it's not something I would listen to often. Just cause it ain't my bag, doesn't mean I hate on it. SMH, I just don't understand people. Anyway. Love how you approach you reviews. I like seeing your response to new music. A group I think you would love that no one is doing reviews on at all, is a band called Here Come The Mummies. They are a funk band outta Nashville. They dress as Mummies and no one knows who they are. There are tons of videos out there. Lots of live videos. They have put out like 8 albums and 3 DVDs. But most people haven't heard of them Check out songs, freak flag, Ra Ra Ra, VIP, Everything But, Pants, Secret Santa ( they did a vid using the old claymation characters from old Christmas shows with Burl Ives) that's just a few to get you started.

Each bass man has a special tone and it works so well here. Avi has the kind of silky quality to his, while Tim's more Randy Travis and has an insane range ( I imagine being classically trained helps with that, but Shawn on the sing off had it right. He just has a natural freakishly low voice. ) I love the both of them. Avi's solo and other collab stuff is great. Chris Rupp is doin great on his solo stuff. He left on good terms, which is really a testament of how mature they all are. They're not ego like a lot of artists. I love their collab with the Oak Ridge Boys on Elvira :) and if you wanna laugh you can't beat their funny videos. Butts Remix, Country-fried pop medley, All About that Bass, Champagne taste/Beer Budget, and quite a few others are absolutely hilarious.

Avi can only hit his growl and subharmonics because of Tim, FYI. He taught it to Avi and Geoff, the bassist from VoicePlay. I thought you'd like to know that.

My reaction was just like yours when Adam came in with that beat! I wish they would focus on him more often. It's hard to believe that what he does is even possible. Did you notice at the end that Avi slipped off his beanie (it used to be his trademark in the early years of PTX) and put on a cowboy hat? That was showing respect for Tim Foust's final bass note. If you look closely, you can see that Avi's singing the "Bah pah dah pah dah" part along with the rest of Home Free.

Just found your channel! I watched your Home Free Man...Sorrow reaction then this. Your reactions & this song gave me cold chills! Tim’s bass range is Legit like SEVEN octave range. That is HIS bass your are really hearing, not Avi’s!
