This is a wonderful song. And Home Free did a fantastic job again. It's always fascinating to see how they build a song, how they manage not to distort the songs and still give it their own touch. The beginning with Tim is so beautiful, goosebump feeling. And then Austin with his incredible voice. That's one of my favorite songs.
This is so good. Home Free went back to the roots of the song. It was written as you said for the movie Unchained about prison in 1955 and a man stuck inside so the video made sense to me. Yeah I liked Tim starting off and Austin finishing. Loved it. Good reaction ML. If you like bass, try Brothers in Arms, I Can’t Outrun You (with Chance in lead). Helplessly Hoping is another great one.
One thing is, you can always trust Home Free, they almost never do something unexpected, which several people I know of don't care for Home Free because they've said they never take chances. With my personality I love them because they are always reliable....if you love tradition, you really enjoy their cover from last year, of "Crazy" the Patsy Cline classic from 1961. I won't do a link, because the RU-vid algorithm thinks that is spam, and will put my channel in "shadow-banned" for at least a week (meaning all my comments will go to a channels spam box on youtube)....its easy to find through the search box at the top...just type in Home Free Patsy Cline Crazy - copy & paste that & I guarantee it'll be the 1st suggestion
These guys could sing the phone book and it would be amazing. I love that they can take any song and make it their own without losing it's integrity of the original just mind blowing. Thanks for sharing
As always, you provide a great reaction, and yes, the prison setting was a tribute to the original movie. I constantly forget that the drum sounds are coming from a human (Rupp is an animal!). I also love the the Do-Wop sound they did here. I always say that when Home Free covers a song, they end up "owning" it. If you really want to see Tim's range, check out his solo cover of Franky Valley's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow / Stay" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8bN9bgwR0DI.html) and I assure you, you will be impressed. Also, Austin performed a solo of this song that I think you'd also like (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XRvr7nQE7xM.html) . Great job Bob! Keep it up. 😀
Great reaction to Tim and Austin in this one! It's such a classic and they set the tone really well. You are in good company about your fav song by Home Free -- it happens to all of us each time! Thanks for shining a light on these talented fellas again 👏
Hi Melissa. This was really fun to hear. I honestly think that these songs just keep getting better and better....even though my expectations are high to begin with. Ha. Thanks so much for listening!
Home Free and their harmonies!! Such powerful visuals and a remarkable version of the song ❤️ I know it hearkens back to the mid-century movie and they portray it spectacularly, but I do hate seeing our guys behind bars. 😕 However, they can definitely "emote" through their music/videos better than just about anyone else out there!! ❤️🎼🥰🎶❤️
You really need to see them live also. Their skill is not fabricated in the studio and in fact, they are even better live! (I get to see them again in a month and haven't see them in a year. They are friends so I am extra pumped!)
A wonderfully sung and performed cover of Home Free. With their own twist to it, but still keeping the respect for the original. The leads, the harmonies, the Doo-wop, the bass, everything just so good. Also wonderful how they bring back the real story. Beautifully portrayed in black and white and the shadow on the wall of the inhuman mouth artist Adam.
You are right the 1955 movie Unchained was a Prison movie were a prisoner is so lonely that he is trying to decided whether to escape and always be on the run with his family or serve out his time and return to his family. The melancholy doo was style pays homage to the tone and feel version of the original in the movie. When some artist went to the writer of the song and asked what was the name of the song so they could cover it, he told them it did not have a name so he hastily wrote Unchained Melody after the the movie. Bobby Hatfield’s iconic power love ballad version will always be the Classic version but Home Free’s version is my second favorite. A suggestion for your next HF song is AIN’T GOING DOWN TILL THE SUN COMES UP. This is a fantastic Garth Brook cover were Adam Rupp goes wild with his vocal percussions. Because of copyright this is located on Home Free’s Facebook page instead of You Tube.Thank you for your great reaction and have a blessed day.
Hello Eric. I'm not sure that I can say that I like more than the other because they are different. I love the old style feel on the RB, but this version was amazing on it's own.
The Righteous Brothers had a big hit with "Unchained Melody" in 1965. Home Free did such a beautiful rendition of this classic song. They added an old school doo-wop feel to it. The video in prison is very fitting as this song was originally written for the 1955 prison film "Unchained". I actually would love to hear Tim Foust & Peter Hollens do "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'". I love all their collaborations. Maybe check some of them out.
Yeah, that solo version wasn't his best work. On the other hand, his "solo" of When a Man Loves a Woman, which is on the Home Free channel, is outstanding.
Home Free paid homage to the 1955 movie "UNCHAINED " there are over 1,500 renditions of this is song, starting with Todd Duncan who sang it the movie. During that year Roy Hamilton, Al Hibler are two of the singers who place the song on the Billboard charts. As you said in 1965 Bobby Hatfield gave us the most acclaimed and popular version and in 1984 the Manhattan Transfer did a light-hearted version.
If you like Tim's range and you like doo-wop, well... you should check out Tim's solo YT channel. He just released an album of Fifties and Sixties covers, and he has three cuts available on the channel. You can hear him do The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, etc., by multitracking all the parts himself.
Thank you for your reaction. I enjoy your reviews because you give a balanced opinion, without just gushing over songs. You are right, HF is able to strike a balance between original songs and "remakes," staying close to what we know as listeners and at the same time adding their flavor. It is so much more than just applying a cappella style to an instrumental song. And while they definitely show off the incredible talent that each individual member of the group has, they do so tastefully and masterfully from a technical musical point of view. It is not about "who did it better," it's about another way to look at a song. As far as vocal percussion goes, both K.O. of Pentatonix and Layne of VoicePlay are remarkable, but you can always tell that is it a human being, not an instrument, performing. With Adam, you literally forget that there are no instruments, because of his unbelievable ability to sound exactly like instruments. I also appreciate how HF performs with the original artists as often as possible, which is a testament to their talent (I don't think icons of the past would want to be associated with HF otherwise), but their originals as also remarkable both in execution and in meaning.
Thank you for the wonderful reaction! I it is so appreciated! Austin did an incredible solo version before the group did you should check it out..You be safe and healthy as well! 🤗❤️
They covered this song as it was meant to be. It has to do with a prisoner debating whether to escape and be on the run or do his time and return to his family. These guys are AWESOME they always try to keep songs to there originals but putting a Home Free twist to it.
This is the first time I listen to Home Free and I must say, I like their voices a lot. "Unchained Melody" is one of my favorite songs, and Home Free did a wonderful job with this cover. I hope that you will react soon to Angelina Jordan's covers of this song: 1. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wGjqXxQbFgA.html (at age 9) 2. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oATEWzJxj3k.html (at age 12)
I always say that HomeFree does an upgrade on their covers because I end up loving their version a whole lot better than the original. You really should check out Austin's version on his solo channel. It was how I first discovered HomeFree. I was so impressed with this young man and I still am. This version is my second favorite because I too, love Tim's beginning lower sound but love that they let Austin shine for the end of it. I can't pick just one HomeFree song as a favorite either and haven't felt this way about any group since the Beatles. And I want to thank you for the Curiosity Cabinet channel 😊 it really takes me back down memory lane and childhood experiences. Yes I'm really that old. So thank you for sharing. 🦋🥀🎶🦋
Even if you don't react to it, go to Austin's solo channel & listen to him sing this same song. He put it out last January 2021 & it has over 9.3 million views already! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XRvr7nQE7xM.html Check out At Last on that his channel too. He sings it in the same key as Etta!
In the movie (1955), Todd Duncan was the original singer, and he sang it from his jail cell. Hence the jail setting. This was just an amazing rendition of this already spectacular song.
Two things. Austin Brown's solo (with Steven Martinez on guitar) video for this song dropped exactly 13 months before Home Free's video did. And Tim Foust released a do-wop CD a couple months ago called Pieces of Me Vol 1. Three videos have been done: Come Go With Me, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay, and In My Room. All good stuff.
you are right the movie was about a man in prison missing his wife and family. Even though he misses them he is trying to decide if he will just do his time and return to his family eventually or escape and live his life on the run.
I would love to see you react to some of their original songs. Dive bar saints - Catch me if you can- lonely girl's world ❣ anything from the Dive bar Saints album.
Great reaction, as always 🙂. Now, I'm going to suggest an artist, who has the most angelic voice you'll ever come across. EIVØR, from the faroe island. Listen to her live version "EIVOR "Falling Free" live from the old theater om Torshavn. ( Enjoy) And, I'm still waiting for you to do Susanne Sundfør's ' when the lord' 😉. Have a wonderful weekend👍👍
Great reaction Bob. This song doesn't really allow for a lot of changes due to the structure of it, and so It's neither my favorite Home Free rendition. But a great performance nevertheless. Home Free will never drop something sub par, we all know that :-) Take care :-)
"When a Man Loves a Woman" is another case of a classic that you didn't think could be topped ... until you hear Austin's cover. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--pygPmfGQvU.html Then there's Postmodern Jukebox: rock (and pop) classics _completely_ re-imagined. If you think Aerosmith's "Dream On" can't be topped, you haven't listened to Morgan James do it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yq4KA0mUnC8.html (Be advised that PMJ is a very deep rabbit hole. Morgan James and Haley Reinhart have both done incredible work with them.)
HEY BOB! You'll want to watch/listen to this to learn more history of Home Free and get a bit of their humor. This is from 2016, I think, but still worth the listen. Link below: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LL7KFfOKScl.html
As usual, HF nailed it! To see and hear Tim's Doo-Wop skills check out Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay. You will see his incredible range. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8bN9bgwR0DI.html
