I grew up in Brixton till I was 11 years old and we always had a Jamaica Patty. They looked like a traditional flat pasty but was flavoured with spices including the actual pastry and were a lovely spicy pasty. We have found a recipe and are going to try to recreate the original Jamaica Patty. Enjoy.

Had my first taste of Jamaican patties on holiday in Jamaica last year in 2022, on a cross-country trip to the Appleton Rum Distillery and then to the Pelican Bar. Through the blue mountains we stopped off in a tiny little village for some juice and patties. The name of the little store? Juice and Patties! I was expecting a Hull-style patty, but no, imagine our surprise when these delicious home-made, yellow, thin "pasties" were presented to us. We had two each, a chicken and a beef. Absolutely gorgeous, never had pastry like it, and maybe it was the setting, but I have never had better patties since. The hotel we stayed at did them, I've had them in London, and I've had them from the frozen section of supermarkets. None better than proper, Jamaican patties made by locals in the middle of the mountains surrounded by coffee and banana plantations. You betcha' we are going back!

I am in Canada and I love your shows on air fryer. Regarding the Jamaican Pattie’s, Turmeric is used to make it yellow. Turmeric is a very good spice and it is also a preservative. Many pickles have some turmeric to preserve it. I love Jamaican Patties. It is very popular in Canada. The best brand in Toronto is Allan’s. Blessings

When I make pastry, I use a knife to keep cutting through the breadcrumb whilst adding really cold water to bring it together. Only use my hands at the very end to clean the bowl with the dough ball. My mum used to use a cold empty milk bottle to roll out, but I was lucky enough to find a vintage glass rolling pin in a charity shop.

Really, it seems you like to pick up on little things bud. Try looking at the bigger picture and look at all the work we put into making these videos. Pardon me for being a bit defensive but we have had our fair share of trolls and I tend to react to picky commenters or just block them. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks for this recipe guys, I love watching the pair of you doing these "old school" recipes. I used to have Jamaica patties every Saturday at the Arndale Market in Luton, truly authentic and delicious. I dread to think what they must charge for them these days, I remember only paying a £1 back in the eighties. Great channel, thanks for the engrossing content 👍 👏

Hi just subscribed have watched most if your back log there all great, today I got a slow cooker (through my Antony Worrell Thompson out 18 months ago not a thing wrong with it must have had it 20 years plus.... stupid @#@*) anyway got a bit of pork in my new model right now! @@DMDBOTH here u go mate, I just write them down for.myself.so I'll share it Pastry: 250g plain flour 115 unsalted butter 1 teaspoon turmeric 1 teaspoon garam masala 1 teaspoon salt 120ml water Filling: 1 onion 1 red pepper 3 spring onions 500g beef mince 1 tsp garlic puree 1 scotch bonnet pepper or 2 chilli 2 tsp garam masala 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp tumeric 1 tsp thyme 1 tsp salt 190ml beef stock 1) fry mince beef until brown 2) drain fat from mince n rinse with water 3) 4) fry onion, spring onion, chilli, red pepper 5) add mince back in pan 6) add all spices excluding thyme 7) add stock 8) place lid on and simmer 15 mins 9) ask Sharon to wash up 10) wait for filling to cool 11) roll out pastry 12) 13) cut pastry rounds with plate (approx 6) 14) put filling in pastry, crimp with fork 15) egg wash sides and top 16) Pierce with fork for less puff. Oven: 180°c 20-25mins Air fryer: 160°c 10-20mins
