Catalina Mocanescu You need to have a license when doing someone’s nails and charging them but that depends on where you live.

How do you get rid of the smell in your home because I know the smell of nail liquid is irritating to some people

I don't work with acrylic. I only use hard gel, gel polish, and do regular manicures and pedicures. If you wanted to use acrylic, you could use odorless monomer and install a ventilation system :)

It's actually illegal to do this at your home because the fumes are combustable requiring special ventillation and city inspection because your home is zoned for residential use only not for business uses.

Hi! I’m a beginner and I’m 18 on a tight budget as I’m a college student. What polish colors would you recommend just starting out? I know I’m the video you said pinks and corals, but maybe white as well? Or shop for the season? I’m going to expand my collection once I make some more money, but I just need some good colors to start off with!

I think white and different shades of pinks and reds are a great place to start. Once you expand, you could try out coral or burgundy shades. Those seem to be pretty popular with my clients.

There isn't a certain amount of colors you need to begin, just whatever feels right to you. I would definitely suggest having reds, pinks, and nudes in a few different shades because those are the most chosen colors in my experience. You could also have some purples, oranges, and white for french tips too!

Is a business license the same as a business certificate? I need help. I’m about to send a lot of money doing a nail class and they’re giving out certificates but is it the same as a license? I’m 18 and I didn’t finish high school. Will I need to finish school? I live in california and I’m kind of confused. I hope you have the answer to my question xoxo

Your state most likely has different guidelines for nail technicians than my state, so I would check on their licensing website first. In my case, I went to nail school and was awarded a certificate for graduating. And I then had to take state board exams to get my state license to actually perform nail services on the public

Certificate and license are different. If your trying to do this as a career or long term I would go to school to get a lisense to protect you legally. You can look up your state laws because some states you don’t need a license but I know people like going to people who are lisense me just because it makes most people feel more secure with your work.

I live in California as well and yes you do need a diploma to go to nail school unfortunately. I am 40 and currently working towards getting my ged so I can go to nail school.

My state requires that you have certain guidelines in a home salon to make it safe. You can check your state's codes to make sure your salon is in compliance! :)

If you already have a nail license from the state, then all you'd need is a business license in the city you want to work out of!

If your state allows home salons, they treat it the same as a typical salon. You'd still need a nail license and business license for the area where you work inside your home. This means they could still check to see if you are keeping everything up to standards :)

I would suggest doing research on the regulations for nail techs in your area. I've discovered every region has different rules and regulations around the world.

That was the hardest thing to overcome. You have to be marketing yourself constantly to get the word out as much as possible. Referral programs, business cards, and social media marketing helps a ton!

Do you realize that isn't legal? You should probably tell ppl they need licenses! Also, your home is zoned for residential use only and any business has to be inspected by the city. OMG!
