Today we headed over to Luis's house to do another install. He ended up on TP-Link equipment primarily because buy Ubiquiti products was just impossible. Everything ended up being sold out each time he tried to make a purchase. This video is primarily making network cables and more network cables. So many cables lol.

Hopefully TP-LINK will take this opportunity to throw some big $ at development and outpace Ubiquiti. They can handle more volume on sales and I just see that the software side needs a little bit more polish for more complicated networks to be considered a threat but I would think that they have the money to do so if they wanted to.
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs 2 года назад
While not discussed in the video, the entire reason the owner has TP-Link was simply because he was unable to order anything from Ubiquiti. This is the 2nd install I have done where Ubiquiti lost a client due to lack of stock. This client would have gone all in on an entire network stack including cameras and maybe even displays. I can only imagine what other professional installers have to deal with.

@@SPXLabs Add 1 more that's why I went with Omada at my parents' house was because I was unable to find anything unify that was available. The fact that my entire Omada setup cost nearly the same amount as a UDM pro SE was the biggest selling point for me. I have had 0 problems with Omada, and everything just works. I couldn't find a consumer router I liked and replacing crap with newer crap didn't make any sense. I looked at all the Wi-Fi 6 and 6e consumer routers and they all where crap and basically the same. Unify was my first choice and Omada my second. I also got IPV6 working with Xfinity, and I have 19 out of 20 on ipv6 tests for people wondering Omada is compatible with IPV6.

I'd still test the cabling even though it's new. Lots of builders don't care and yank cabling and sometimes nick through the sheathing. Get a fluke and you'll see if it's damaged or not.

Ohhh boy.. I sympathize. I had to terminate 15 cables this weekend, test, figure out what was wrong when it didn't work.. So time consuming and my fingers hurt from sliding down that plastic thing. I didn't cut them short like you did before putting the plastic holder before putting them into the terminator.. I guess I'll try that next time, maybe save me the extra effort... Those WIFI wall plates are awesome.. Those female to female keystone are amazing, no need to punch-in wires..

great video. I have a couple of questions: 1) how is noise and heat level from those equipments if you have to use that little room as an office to do some work? 2) total power consumption for home network, I did a quick calc: IP cameras + switch + gateway/router + WAP = 200w*24*30= 144kw per month. not cheap for high energy cost countries. I am debating to settle for mesh network and wireless cameras.
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs 2 года назад
1) we do not know because we are not done but the room is fairly large and has ac. maybe 6ft wide x 11ft long. 2) Unknown at this time but electricity is about ¢.10 per kwh.

I would strongly think that air conditioners, stove, and standard tv uses way more electricity than a network. True, ive got a small apartment and am on a low income rate, but my air conditioner right now and stove are what made the bill $71.
