Hi everyone! Welcome back to EPISODE 6 of the Home Renovation Series. Sharing all the progress of the first month of renovations. It has been a JOURNEY and I almost forgot what the house looked like before we began. So much progress has been made (but oh so much to go!!)
I look at a week by week account of our progress + focus on our loft extension which is really taking shape.
We make a decision about whether we're going to move to the loft.
Some carpet and flooring choices are made (even though we haven't yet decided the layout of some crucial bathroom furniture! priorities lol)

Hi! I love your videos and your down to earth managing of it all. I do have a suggestion for your editing: the music sometimes overlaps with your talking, making it difficult for someone like me who has some hearing loss to fully understand all that you're saying. Apart from that, keep going! You're doing great x

I totally agree with the person who said about the novelty of the loft room wearing off... We have a town house and we sleep on the first floor because it's a much bigger room - despite the loft room having an en-suite 😊

I have been following your reno as we used to live over the road from you (you can see our old house and the flats from your front windows!). We converted our loft and we were able to fit a king size bed in our loft space plus ensuite etc. The space was tight and our builders had to move the stair bannisters leading up to the loft to make more room for the bed (our stairs came up in the rear of the floor, not centre). I really loved the space we created upstairs for a master bedroom, we had lots of light and great views out the back . We had plenty of inbuilt storage fitted and room for two chest of drawers. Our ensuite was in the front so faces your side of the road and house. If at all possible, I would recommend investigating further if there is anyway of squeezing in your bed in the loft. In any event, best of luck with everything. Xx

oh my gosh what a small world I love it!!! our roof beams are now on so we just went up to see if bathroom could work in the forward bit and its just too small :( there's barely any head height. Like the dimensions of our house are sooo small. the rooms are only 10ft wide like its a teeny tiny space. I let myself dream about a huge dressing room at the back of the loft after reading your comment but it was quickly disqualified when we realised the space was too pinched for the bathroom.

definitely the toilet under the window! you want as much space possible using the sink so having the toilet tucked away makes the mode sense X

totally!! the fight at the sink every evening in our cooped bathroom atm is not fun that I dunno why I'd ever willingly design it like that for a Reno hahaha! defo agree with it being under the window and out the way for lots more space around the sink xxx

Option B! Definitely! My parents have a toilet under the window, and it’s completely fine... I’d choose sink space anyday!

Have a look at Cormar carpets - they have a range thats 50/50 wool/poly. Also slightly better (less pulling) for doggo nails!

We lowered the ceiling for our loft conversion. Was one of the messiest jobs EVER, would have been impossible to do if we were living there though. Progress looks great :)

We had an issue with moths, you only need one to fly in and lay eggs and then when they hatch they eat the carpet. We didn't notice until it was too late, they were under the sofas

We're hoping for June / start of July. They're currently on schedule even though there's been a few hold ups they just bring forward other jobs and kinda leave other bits until approval from building control / thames water has come through x

you might want to do some research about wool mites!?!? there are dust mites, which are completely microscopic and don't eat carpet but live there. and then there are moths which do eat carpet, but providing you hoover you'll notice any moths and can get rid of them with a bit of lavender oil. you would have to not hoover for years to have moths eat enough carpet to notice.

Love your style! We are getting our house extended soon and this has been extremely helpful. I have a question about the kitchen cabinet and the colour- you say you can get them bespoke and painted- how does this get done? Planning to go with Wickes and we want black cabinets and their Camden carbon is just a bit too grey!

Hi!! Thanks so much glad it’s helpful!! Ok so DIY kitchens do bespoke as standard selection on their site. Wren (who went with) have to price it with the kitchen designers can you do the same with wickes? Have you got a point of contact in the company who’s been helping with your kitchen? The price we got for bespoke was a lot more than we thought so we just went with standard grey

@@Jessroseparr I guess I shall ask. I did keep looking at the cabinet saying I think it’s too grey. I went to Wickes because of their designer as she did my bathroom and she’s amazing. So wanted to stick with her. But the cabinets are throwing me off a bit! I shall ask her and also go to b&q and see how much that would cost. Thank you for the advice! Couldn't you put the vanity across from the toilet where it is now and have your shower opening towards the window side?

unfortunately that is a shared wall with our neighbours and to run any plumbing there would mean under the floor and having to raise the floor and we are so pinched with head height it would compromise the space. It would 100% be my preferred option though for a layout :(
