That stamping adds character! That’s what stinks about doing your own work, your eye always goes to spots, but the bonus is when you take a break for a period of time, and come back to appreciate what your art became!
Bob... if you wanted to match the inner fenders and firewall to the body color, could you paint over the raptor liner? Hopefully you or someone will see this question a year or so after publishing this excellent video. Thanks!!
Some advice from an old school painter, wet your floor and close off the front. Your pulling contaminants thru the front, hence dust in your finish, and wetting the floor will keep down dust. Also use a blow gun on the inside to dislodge any dust or dirt and again wetting the floor will keep it on the floor and off your vehicle. Solid concept and construction of a booth tho, very good.
Thanks for the advice Dave. I did get some dust in my paint and wetting the floor would have been a great idea, hindsight is 20/20. I hope I’m done painting, as long as I don’t burn through any spots during the wet sand and polish work I’ll remember the wet floor for my next project. Thanks for the kind words
Thanks for the update. Once again, love following this project. The casual “throw together an entire ventilated paint booth that integrates into the structure of your barn” part of the video is like the “how to draw an owl” meme. But keep it coming!
Ha, good point about the Owl Meme comparo. I thought about making a dedicated video just about the booth itself.... maybe I will if there’s any interest. Thanks for checking out my project, plenty more to go.
I've found that it's much much easier to push air into a home paint booth than trying to pull it. And it being a low (one time even) use paint booth, no need to filter the out going air. Just put a filter on the incoming air.
Looks great Bob! On the tub and fenders, did you apply the bedliner on the interior sections first, then paint the outer surfaces? I'm thinking about bedlining the bottom of the tub, then bedline the inside of the tub, then do final exterior color on the outside. Love the booth. I need to drag my parts up to your new facility. Cheers Mike.
Hey Mike! I read in the other video that you found the answer! I love the raptor liner, I think you’ll find it very easy to work with. Anxiously awaiting your next video on Rowdy. Take care sir.
Jeep looks great! I am doing a similar frame off restoration and your video's have been extremely helpful and full of detail. I was wondering if you could provide me with some more detail on the paint color. Bob you mention 3A 1978 CJ7 Beige in your video Do you have a paint code or formula or name. I pulled a paint book from a autoparts store and wasn't able to match any of the chips to your color.
Hey Mark. The color is “Almond Beige 3A”. That should pull right up in the paint catalogs under AMC/Jeep. I think it looks great in person, I’m also going to do the Renegade Stripes to make it a little more interesting. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions along the way.
Your happy how it came out, I’m very happy! You have great skill and so much patience to do it all right! I can’t wait to see the stages it’s gone through! Thank you for your time!
Hey Bob I just found your channel I am beginning research on doing a V-8 swap in my YJ. Have you worked through any of the wire harness issues with Vortec motor? I have a potential donor suburban motor as well and am trying to learn as much as possible before diving in. Thanks! -Cory
Yo Cory. You gotta check out LT1swap.com. All the info you could ever want is there. Also, check out videos for “Project Rowdy”. Mike does an excellent job organizing his LS harness. Good luck with your project.
