Home Theater Build with the ASRock z590 Phantom Gaming

I have finally figured out why your so big on Asrock. For years now I have been dealing with Gigabyte and have always had problems with IOMMU and Power Management on Linux. I would get error messages at boot time on every single Gigabyte board and would have to trial and error kernel boot parameters to compensate. I recently got an Asrock Taichi and I was pleasantly surprise at the fact that there were no error messages when booting Linux. I also discovered that on Asrock you can update the BIOS and not lose the boot option for your Linux partition. On the Gigabyte boards you always lose your Linux partition and have to either reinstall or jump through hoops chrooting into the install to add it back to the boot options of the UEFI.

I got an 11900f (non-k) for $330, you unlock power, it draws around 200W if you can keep it below 70C which you can with an NH-D15. It locks at 5.2 on two cores and 4.7 all core.

Yeah, I need the optical out to go to my AVR and I had a tough time finding a board that still has it. Almost went with this board, but didn't since the first m.2 isn't backwards compatible with a 10th gen CPU, and I need both. Had to scrounge around to find a new Z470 MSi Unify.

Pretty dope build, thats a bit overkill.. but it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't. Also agree about Optane, really wish Intel would bring back DIY Optane options for consumers.

Kinda overkill, but thats a very nice build. I'm also building a storage/home theater pc at the moment using mostly recycled parts. Running a GTX 970, Z370 Taichi, 2444mhz memory and an i3 9100F as the only new part. I'm not exactly happy with any of those parts, but it'll just have to do for now. What I am excited about tho, is that I can shove 16 hard drives in my Define 7 XL using my LSI MegaRAID SAS 9341-8i RAID controller. I'm slowly working my way up to a proper storage server setup with adequate redundancy.

Nice build, realistically you'd go for a 5600x and its 65w TDP would allow you to greatly decrease operating noise levels.

I am going to hookup an HTPC to my retro 80's hifi setup. How, I do not know. But I shall.

For my htpc I would rather have optical out and digital coax out than any analog out from my motherboard. It's going straight into the superior dac in my stereo equipment

Now you only have to find some way to get proper HDR... That's the problem with HTPCs current, HDR10 only works with Windows and DV and HDR10+ seems to basically be not a thing current on PC, so apartment from gaming you probably have to buy some android based stick with Kodi to get DV (and HDR10+)

I have to ask, what does a PC based home theater build offer over any set top streaming box like a Roku or an Apple TV or whatever? Why do this? A cheap NUC with an Intel iGPU can easily handle a Plex server even with transcoding. You could game with a keyboard/mouse on it I guess, but otherwise a PS4 Pro or PS5 (at msrp lol) or Xbox would be cheaper for 4K gaming.

what's the practical use of all this for a home theater?! with an nVidia Shield TV Pro & PLEX you get true 24p playback, lossless multi-channel audio, HW acceleration... for 1/5th the price of this rig.

Be grateful that you at least get to have some AVX performance, AVX-512 is out of the equation with Alder Lake.

Total Overkill. My 4k Home Theater build is a i5-4570, 8gb and a GT1030. Works perfectly for 4k Atmos, and cost me nothing in old parts :)
