Can you explain what IMAX certified means and what it actually does? From what I understand it plays volumes At reference level or what you would hear at the movie theater. But doesn’t that have to do with the amount of watts a receiver produces? The RZ50 is 120 watts & IMAX enhanced, so how does it differ what another receiver that is 120 watts+ that is not IMAX enhanced? Or is IMAX a format like DTS or Dolby Digital?
I just bought the ONKYO TX RZ840,i have it for 1 week and I'm amazed by the sound , still learning how to deal with it,but so far im in love,my 1ST Onkyo,I hope for the rest of my time in this 🌎
The new RZ line is awesome - nut the NR5100 was really cheeped out on - I meant push pins for them speaker connections? Guys, even the outgoing NR595 was not built this was - and less HDMI connections too?
I have 2 questions regarding this topic: 1. Do you use accueq prior to the dirac calibration? 2. Does dirac in the onkyo have full bass optimization? If not, how will the integration between the mains and subwoofer work? Because if you set a target curve for the subs, the mains with a rolloff after the crossover point will add to that. Doesn’t that mean the eventual low freq curve will be different than the subwoofer target curve?
What is the difference in the announced RZ70 vs RZ50, besides power and dual subwoofer control? I take it the dual subwoofer control is worth it over the split one channel sub out on the RZ50, correct?
Wish I hadn't missed the live stream! Was awesome! When using pre-outs is the internal amplification turned off? I have a 10 channel amp and don't need any internal amplification. Wondering if they actually turn off, or if it even matters?....
I just got an RZ-50 after doing much research. Had to wait not only for this but for different pieces of my 7.1.4 setup. I have a complaint. I knew I needed an ext amp to get full atmos. After research, I learned that getting a very good ext amp for the front was the way to go because the front stage is the heart. I got an emotiva XPA 3 channel amp thinking that the RZ-50 would handle the remaining 8 channels. Egg in my face when I realized there was no height#2 speaker connector and the zone connectors cannot be assigned. Why would you design something like this? I wasn't going to use the expensive emotiva to run surround speakers. I was forced to purchase a 2nd ext amp in order to accomplish this by pre outing the surr backs and using those as the heights #2. The RZ-50 has processing for 11 channels, and you chose 2 of those channels to be a zone that cannot be assigned to what you need. And nowhere did I here this on any review. I guess most people only use 2 atmos speakers so they don't come across this issue. Had I known this, I would have bought a 4 or 5-channel ext amp instead of having 2 ext amps and 1 avr. I looked and noticed pioneer and onkyo both have this design. Better to charge 4100 more and add the height#2 connector.
I reached out to Onkyo and basically what you have to do for 7.1.4 setup is use pre-amp outputs, external amp to power two surround backs and then use surround back inputs for height 2 channels, from my understanding. This is also explained in the manual, but did confirm this with Onkyo. Hope that helps.
Wouldn’t that mess up the processing and play the wrong speakers? It makes me think that surround back and Atmos rear are playing the same thing. Almost like they’re making us buy 9.2 receivers when they don’t really have to.
@@happypuppy8221 Depends on the speakers and what they need to be pushed so no you don’t always need an extra amp. The subwoofer is the one that definitely doesn’t need it since most subs have their own amps that are usually matched with what the speaker can handle. If you have a sub without an amp, yes. I can’t see manufacturers using subs that need far more power to be pushed. Most companies are cheap and undercut where they can instead of giving us more production for the money.
Fyi, you don’t need a new hdmi wire to get 120hz. We just received a new PS5 and we’re playing Fortnight at 120hz and we’re using a 15 year old hdmi cable. However, I didn’t try 120hz at 4K, but am assuming it will work as well. We usually have at 1440p on a LG C2 OLED.
@@JilesMcCoy yea I agree. Will give it a test try to make sure. I just feel like they are always trying to up dell us on wires & equipment we already own, but that’s how it goes. There’s not much advantage to gaming in 4K, your moving so quickly 1440p is more then enough. The 120fps does look more smooth, but to be honest 60fps looks damn good to. Do u know the purpose of these older TVs that have 120hz but don’t have 2.1 and can’t accept 120hz single? What’s the advantage of having 120hz but not being able to accept the 120hz single?
Hello. I know this is an older video, but I just found it recently. Awesome interview. Can you reach out to these guys to find out what are the real differences between the Onkyo TX-RZ50, Integra DRX-5.4 and Pioneer Elite VSX-LX505 in terms of build quality and amplifier/power supply technology? A Pioneer rep told me via email that the LX505 uses a different amplifier than the Onkyo, though they are rated the same. Also, the Integra DXR 5.4 is $600 more! What makes it more premium. I have sent several emails to customer support but they have no answers for me. I want to purchase one of these models, but I want to make an informed decision. If you can help, thank you.
Hi, John over at Ripewave Audio has 3-5 videos with the information you are looking for (one focuses on HDMI2.1, another on speaker setup/amplification etc), here is a start: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4DaAUxxTZbA.html. The are identical in most technical ways, Onkyo seems to be the way to go if you don’t need Creston stuff or 3-4 IR/triggers (Integra) or thinks paying more for not being able to have individual crossovers for speaker channels is a good thing (Pioneer)
Not yet, but my goal is to get to 7.1.4. Does the RZ50 have any other new features besides the extra 2 channels? Really makes the RZ50 a heck of a deal at its current price of around $1200 vs the RZ70 which runs around $3k.
Can this unit be setup as a 7.2 surround sound and also 2.2 stereo for music listening, I see on the specs that the Onkyo TX-RZ50 is a 9.2, but a lot of people in RU-vid saying that it can only take one subwoofer?... Can it take two is that what "Double Bass" is?
I bought an RZ-50, only to discover that I cannot run the same HDMI Bitstream (arc) audio from my main room TV to Zone 2 (bathroom) or Zone 3.(kitchen and dining room via Preamp). Are there any workarounds? I tried to find an unused audio output (like a tape or VCR out) but there was none to plug my amplifier into. My old JVC had several. I was hoping to be able to listen to the audio from the TV while working in the kitchen and having my meals in the dining room. BTW, I tried switching to PCM via both the receiver to my older Vizio TV, but it muted the speakers in the main room. Help!
Great video guys. Got a question though. On my Integra DRX 3.4, I'm using all external amps. Question is where do I go to adjust the input level trim for each source? I have Apple TV, Blu Ray, Roku etc. and they all have different input volumes and need to level that out. I have seen this in Denon and Yamaha, but for the life of me I cannot find it in the Integra.
I have question is onkyo going make 13,15 or more channel receiver and it’s thx ultra 2? Is the wide channel coming back and work with Dolby atoms? Denon has 15 receiver channel not thx. But I only buy onkyo thx ultra 2 stuff. I wish onkyo keep make pa5000 or pa5001 thx ultra 2 amplifier hard to find. Thank you for listening.
Question on the RZ-50, was tinkering with the receiver over the weekend and watched your excellent video again, and am still unsure what is the best setting to leave your receiver in for movies? There are so many different Listening Mode's. I cant imagine anyone actually switched there listening mode every time they watch a different movie or show. Can you help, thanks.
Love your channel. Looking for some more information There are so many modes, my question concerns DD, DSur and THX Cinema. I am wondering why everything sounds "bigger" and the voices out of the center channel sound more clear when I switch to THX Cinema (Dirac off) vs. Dsur (Dirac on)? DD sounds almost exactly like THX just not as big?
Hey guys 😊 What I love most with my Pioneer SC-LX 89, is the fact that I can bi-amp the center (have individual amps for left and right 600watts each), and with bi-amp from the class D reciever, it gives 520 watts to my center (on paper at least, but it only has to drive 2 medium surrounds from 100hz up besides the center, so it does deliever). Another feature I love, is the 6 diferent calibrations I can make and use (base calibrarions with eq and all main settings). I like the flexibility in this reciever, but it is getting old and I do want an atmos setup in the future... Hope Pioneer will continue with class D amp, and continue to be flexible in the setup 😊🤘😊
@@azdonw So it is the Onkyo that is class D this time? Class D is what I want, so maybe it is another round wirh Onkyo that is in the future? (I have an older Onkyo too TX-NR 3010).
@@azdonw Gues that has to be ok then 🤪 I do have 2 xtz A300 (class D) as external amps for my fronts and centers, but they do not colour the sound in any way, so I gues it is really not that important that the rest of the system is class D. Time will tell🤪 maybe I will go with a processor and external class D amplification all the way....when I win the lottery 🙊
@@JilesMcCoy Yes. I am a big multichannel music fan as well as a home theatre enthusiast. I got the Pioneer UDP-LX500 when they came out. When I had issues with the NAD T-778 this year I bought a Pioneer SC-LX704 for a great price. The pair work great together. I am so impressed that I would be keen to upgrade to the UDP-LX800 and the SC-LX905 for the Dirac and a slight audio upgrade.
but I wonder if this wonderful device plays an USB flash drive with video ...? Or just for audio? But what about modern devices...? Which one has this option...? especially stream .MKV formats...
The Onkyo RZ50 left a bad taste. When I would turn Dirac ON it would shut off and go into protection mode. When I turned OFF Dirac it was fine. I had the new unit for four days and returned it. Have you experienced this and should I go again with another RZ50?
I have the Onkyo TX-SR608 which I replaced with the Onkyo NR7100. For some reason the 7100 sounds anemic comparatively? This makes no sense as the AVR was the only thing that changed. Help.....
I bought a used integra drx 5 because of the 2020 eArc problem I've been hearing. I like the avr but what does accueq really do? It doesn't even show me any graphs or changes it has made like my old pioneer vsx from 2013. I guess room correction is it weakness. Someone reply if I'm missing something with accueq like a hidden menu? Thanks
8k for streaming would be a nightmare. 4k is more then enough, I have never heard anyone complain about 1080P content. I have perfect eyesight and have a camera that can shoot 8k and will tell you there is no noticeable difference with watching content. Where 8k is helpful is in the mastering and shooting in 8k and being able to crop (zoom in) on an object. 8k will probably never be used for streaming or on disc, its such a large about of information you would probably need 3 or 4 disc's for one movie in 8k and you would not notice the difference. Most if not all regular cable is still 1080p and 720p, doing 4k cable for a sporting event is very expensive and most people probably cant tell the difference. what we need is better 1080p content, most 1080p on cable is downconverted so is 4k. 8k is really unnecessary at any screen size, as the larger the screen the father you need to sit back. Yes you can sit 1' away from an 85" TV and perhaps you may see pixels with 4k, but thats not even close to realistic.
Hi Gents, Sen here from Edmonton, Alberta. How can have a good sound with my Onkyo TX-SR393 with KEF Q350, I already got a PYLE PP99 phono pre-amp hook to RELOOP turntable but the sound ain’t still no good. Need your help here please….
I think 8k is pointless because it only makes sense on a big tv or projector where you have over 100" screen but it costs a couple kidneys to afford. Double bass (LFE+Main) is a naughty setting that is just asking for trouble with your subs and mains canceling each other out, my suggestion is only use if you know the issue you're trying to fix. However with that said I loved having them on. I honestly had no interest in them until I heard they'd have Dirac and honestly that might be enough to get me into an AVR by them. Still don't really understand the differences between the different brands when comparing similar models.
I have noticed that ur videos keep buffering a lot on the 1st day even on steong wifi connection,on my mobile and LG tv,but works fine frm 2nd day...Have anyone else facing same issues
