We had single pane windows in the studio and I replaced them with double pane. If you have seen my heat pump videos, you know how important insulation is to save big time on heating and cooling. In this video, we’ll go through the process from removing the glass, ordering new glass, insulating the structure around the windows to finishing.

In areas that can get cold, double pane windows should be the standard. In hotter regions of the world, shading (e.g. awnings or shutters), is far more important. Great show!

to remove glass use powerful suction cups; cut glass with special glass cut tool dw its cheap and pull.

Over insulating a wall or ceiling is almost as bad as having little insulation because the compression transmits cold or hot. It is best to apply the insulation product that is rated for the thickness of the wall. A 2x4 wall should not have fiberglass batts thicker than R-21 for example. Spraying that same wall with closed cell insulation would be the best solution and the most expensive......

For us poor folk, just install plastic over the window. Dead air space is better than nothing.

@@NetZeroTech So far, it seems to work for me. Keeps the warm house air off the cold glass. Another method is to make a frame from furring strips. Staple plastic around the frame. Place frame in the window. Whole window not just the glass. From floor to ceiling. It is easily removable too when you want to get some fresh air. Another one is take bubble wrap, spray glass with soapy water, fit the bubble wrap on the glass. Don't squeegee the glass before installing the bubble wrap. And only lightly after installation to remove air pockets.
