Cool video! Small correction, at around 7min you say the process will cause u to lose your games and usbloader config, this isn't true. Edit: another correction, apps saved to fat32 usb can also be accessed via the hbc, just press 1 to switch between sd and usb if you have both connected This is XFlak, the author of ModMii btw. I skimmed through the video and it helped me spot a minor "bug", in your scenario gamecube backup manager should have also been saved to copy to usb, not copy to SD. I'll correct it in my next update. Personally I prefer the local setting so program files get saved where modmii is instead of either of the copy to folders. The default setting is auto, where it saved program files locally if running modmii from your c drive, otherwise it will save portably to the copy to folders.
Thanks for the info! And thanks for the great package. A few people have asked about saving apps to SD and USB. I wasn't aware of the ability to swap. I've got a couple more videos to do on the Wii so will get this info out in those. Keep up the great work.
Hey XFlak, currently when Modwii tries downloading everything it always fails to download the NKit Processing App. When I watch the download log I see "Error: cannot find archive". I don't know if this is a new thing or just me. I've allowed ModMii.exe in windows firewall but no change. Thoughts?
Mom caught me hacking my wii yesterday. She was pretty upset and told me good boys don't do such things. I told her it's mine, and im not hurting anyone by doing it alone in my room. She cried and said she couldn't believe i was becoming a real little man. I told her it was ok, and she could join me, i would show her how to do it. Then she slapped me and told me to wait until my father got home. I cant wait to show him how i can hack my wii all by myself now! Thanks a million! 😊
@@steviewonder1653 I've seen a couple of ways of un modding the Wii but haven't tried them out yet. I'm reluctant to suggest one until I've tested it. Some seem to just delete the homebrew channel which will probably leave the hacks in place, just hidden. Some do a complete system format (it's an option in the Wii settings) but I'm not sure how safe that is. I guess this last option is probably the way to go but please do find out if it is safe first. Hope this helps.
When I try to open Nintendont, it says “No FAT Device Found” and goes back to the Homebrew Menu. Im using an MicroSD Card with an SD Adapter, formatted to FAT32 MBR, used GCBM to correctly format all the games and the files are in the right places. The only thing thats different from your tutorial is that I have .ciso games instead of regular .iso. The Wii games work perfectly fine and run with no problems. USB Loader GX recognizes both Wii games and GameCube games as well. I try to launch a GameCube game and it redirects me to Nintendont and the same error pops up, “No FAT Device Found”. Your tutorials and videos have helped me a lot, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Do the games show up in Nontendont. Start by getting the games to run directly from there. Once you get that end sorted out USBLoader should then be able to ask Nintendont to run the games.
I got a copy to SD folder but there was also a program files folder. What do I do with that? And in the copy to SD folder there's WBFS so what should I do with that too? And should I just put what's in the copy to SD folder into my SD and just leave it or put the program files folder into the copy to SD folder
The program files folder just contains a couple of helper apps to copy your Wii and GameCube games onto your USB or Sd card. These don't need to be copies to your usb or sd card that you plub into the Wii (doesn't matter if you do copy them over). All the other files and folders in the copy_to_sd and usb folders need to be copied to the respective devices, including any empty folders such as the WBFS one.
Sounds familiar... But it is not 'yesterday' as in: the day before you actually performed the hack on the Wii, but 'yesterday' as in 'the day before you assembled and created your modware'. Which in our case was several days before we did the actual hack. So we had to scroll back in time a week or so. Well, maybe stating the obvious here...
Im using a USB and the Gamecube games are working on Nintendont, but the Wii games just go to a black screen and my Wii-mote turns off. Then i have to restart the Wii, but it wont restart unless I remove the USB first
You made a video a few months ago where u hacked the wii too? Is this the easier way or another way. And can i still get all games i want or is it a smaller variety
The first video was doing it all manually. ModMii helps you do exactly the same process but does a lot of the hard setup work for you. You'll end up with pretty much the same system.
Hi there, I used this video to Homebrew my Wii and for some reason whenever I power on the Wii it automatically launches with Bootmii. Is there any way I can change this to the standard menu? I appreciate your tutorials!
Rename or move the boot.dol located in the bootmii app and keep track of it incase you brick your console just change the name back or put the file back and reinsert if you bet bricked and it will load into bootmii automatically
@@BytesNBits Yes, I realized my bootmii folder was in my SD card and now it’s in a safe location. Thank you again for your informative tutorials and checking in!
You probably need to try a different hack method. If you can get Internet access on your Wii try the str2hax exploit. I did make a video on this one as well - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rAMRmBEkdg0.html, but try to do it through the ModMii route as that installs a better set of cIOS updates.
Did you manage to get Homebrew installed? Did the SD card work for that? It could be a corrupt card or a damaged sd card slot, or the main installation isn't working. Did you get as far as installing the cIOS files?
I believe I've followed the steps correctly but when i tried to down the download the files from Modmii it says "42 of 56 files are invalid, missing or were not updated properly"
@@devontheliontamer Thanks for Responding and trying to help but I've already solved the problem I did a bit if troubleshooting and then I just re downloaded the software.
Great video going to Homebrew and modmii my wii...If it gos wrong can i do a factory restart start again...+ will a SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I memory card 128 GB work...thks
The chances of it going wrong are very slim. If something fails in the installation just restart the process and it will overwrite the bits that are there. Make sure you go through the NAND backup process. This will let you restore the Wii if you brick it at a later date. But you'd need to be doing some deeper hacking for that to happen. Just playing games is not a risk. A factory reset won't remove the hack so that backup is important.
Thank you so much for this! I just carefully followed through each step you showed and was able to homebrew my Wii pretty straight forward. I had one little scare at the point where I open up the HackMii from the SD card where it went to a black screen with the light on around the disc drive, and the power button wouldn’t shut off my Wii. I unplugged the Wii, took the SD card out, unplugged my hard drive, and then put it all back in. The Wii booted up just fine and it worked the 2nd time around so I’m not quite sure what happened there.
Thanks for your support. Sometimes the hack process does fail but you did the right thing and just tried again. Glad to see you got it working. Have fun with the games.
When I open the letter bomb, nothing popped up, just my disc drive kept flashing Edit: restarted my console and switched to a non WII motion plus controller and it worked!
Sadly I just completed this and went to download some games. All the games have basically been wiped from vimms catalog and now I can’t play anything 😢
Yes. Nintendo, Sony and a few others have been threatening legal action against the major rom sites so they've had to take down a lot of games to avoid massive penalties. It's getting harder to find quality download sites. Try the Internet Archive as it has a get out of jail free card at the moment for archived roms.
I have tried many ways of modding my wii and i think an CIOS messed up my disc reader, it can't read original discs that it could read before. How can i fix this? With the other ways, i didn't create a backup...
Mate can you please make one video just explaining Everything cause now i have done everything here succesfully but i do not know hpw to fix the games, what do i have to do. This shit is complicated.
It's really a matter of following through each step carefully. Make sure you create the right folders and copy the right files to the right drives. Follow each of the steps in sequence and make sure each stage works before moving on to the next.
I tried your other Gide and now this one. I followed both step by step and always gives me black screen when I try to enter in the game. First is appears the white screen saying to tie well the controller in my wrist etc, and then it just stays in the black screen :(
When i try to open usb loader, it just shows a blank screen. i have formatted my usb and installed everything again but it still gives me a blank page. At first when i installed usb loader i could go to the homescreen but not play the game, thats when i used d2x cios installer, since then everything i try gives me the same blank usb loader page and after that the usb loader files are deleted from my usb. Does anyone know a solution?
Hi! I've managed to follow your tutorial step by step so far without any problems. However when I launch YAWM it doesn't load, it's just the screen at 26:58 but without the information inside the box. I don't even get an option to choose my source device. Help!
Make sure you've got the cIOS files in the right folder. I think it looks for a WAD folder on the SD card. If the files haven't been put in there it won't find them. If YAWM simply refuses to work try downloading it again in case the files on the SD card have gone wrong.
Hey i did everything well. I still didn't get through the bootmii progress. Since i think my sd reader is broken i think i cannot download bootmii and i run a risk of bricking my wii if i don't follow this process right. I don't know what to actually do about it. I have done the usb thing but still i cannot manage to get the bootmii files onto my sd card if my reader is broken. It keeps giving me (failed -1) error code on both options. Even the site doesn't have any alternatives
UPDATE: I FIXED THE ISSUE. If you have a old wii like me it could be dusty. I thought my sd card reader was broken turns out i was wrong the only thing i did was clean the sd card slot with a anti dustspray and i checked the slot and it got recognised. SO IT WORKS NO WORRIES
I can never seem to get any of these YAWM variants to work. They always claim that they can't find the region of my system, and throw up error messages when I select the SD Card Slot. For those reasons, I use Multi Mod Manager. Still, it must be said, this is a fantastic tutorial. Clear and concise, the way I like 'em.
Btw, if you got a wiimote with built-in motion plus, you won't be able to navigate through some installers.... I installed homebrew but I can't get any further because my controllers won't be recognized. I'll have to buy a classic wiimote just to be able to jailbreak it. I watched over 20 videos of people jailbreaking their wii, no one ever talked about the issues I'm encountering...
@@BytesNBits My controllers are original, they are just 2nd gen wih the built-in motion plus. I got my friend to bring his old controller yesterday and I managed to install the rest. Is it normal that some Roms look bad ?
Try deleting the USBLoader foler from the apps folder and following this video to re install it - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8RdwHT3C16E.html
Hi. If I follow this & it works. Say I want to change my USB drive for a different size. Would I just format the new drive as guided & then copy everything from old to new drive & connect it back into the Wii?
If the LetterBomb isn't working for you try another exploit. I used the srt2hax in this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rAMRmBEkdg0.html
@@BytesNBits i tried using it on my Arch install and it just wasn't able to get through the download process for some reason, so probably not worth the effort if anyone is wondering :)
Hi, thank you for these very useful tutorials. I just bought a secondhand Wii console and thought of soft modding it. I have a question regarding Modmii. Does it requires installation and setting up of the cIOS system as you mentioned in the other guide. Thanks once again.
ModMii does it all for you. The section where you use YAWM to install the 44 WADs is where it installs all the cIOSes. It really is a full softmodding tool.
great video 👍 is it possible to get other emulators to have their own channel icons like usb loader GX as well? I've been trying to figure it out. I'd have to make a wad file for them wouldn't I? would you be able to make a video on something like that?
Yes. Most of them have a channel wad or installer you can download. I made a video using the SNES emulator as an example. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WMG7PsVvD9Q.html. Have a look through the list detailed in that video. A lot of the download packages come with a channel installer. Hope this helps.
Check your Internet connection is still OK - do not allow it to run an update!!! If it still doesn't work you can delete the USBLoaderGX app files installed by ModMii and go through the manual installation process. Same goes for Nintendont. If you want to change the Wii menu launcher remove the channel installed by ModMii through the Wii Settings page. Hope this helps.
I tried this yesterday. The modmi prog runs fine. I coould get my files and put them on my SD card and the wii reported it copied my 'saved game' in batman lego. But whenver going to wayne manor and choosing the lowest right hand valid character, it reports 'no code to load 'and hangs. I tried every SD card I could find. Still no go. I should have an older standard 2Gig SD card coming in the post incase it is that which is the problem. Hopefully that works else thats that as my wii was bought second hand and has corrupt settings (so no internet or MAC address ) . The SD card requirement would seem to be very fussy on wii consols.
If the game loads and plays apart from that one section I'd try finding another download of the game disk. Your copy might be corrupt. Have you tried it with any other games?
Hi thnx for the reply. I can play the whole game ,and load the little green blokey off that same section to get him running around wayne manor grounds for no real reason , it only hangs for trying to run the files from modmi on it. Should have indiana jones coming to try instead and the standard SD .will let you know how it goes@@BytesNBits
I did this using a hitachi 256GB hard drive every single thing works besides the games. I used Wiiback up manager and the games play on my dolphin emulator on my pc. The games come up and open the first screen and then freeze. I tried to D2X cios but the installer in homebrew only loads to 87% and then freezes. Any help would be appreciated
The Wii might be having compatibility issues with the hard drive. Try saving a few games to a usb stick and giving that a go. If it works you'll know it's not the homebrew setup. If it still doesn't work you might try re installing homebrew and the cIOSes. ModMii is good at cleaning up any file corruption etc.
You need an sd card to run the BootMii backup system which I do recommend you install. The USB drive lets you use ssd and other larger storage media up to 2TB. You can run everything from just an SD card, or all from a usb drive. Both sdhc and xc will work but you do need to fornmat as FAT32 with 16KB cluster size. Yes you do need an sd card adapter to use a micro sd card. Hope this helps.
Just the main USB connection is needed. It will draw power from the USB port. My one has two leads so you can provide extra power if you're using a mechanical drive.
I don't know why it won't let you select the hack. From the channel page can you go back to it? It might be that for your setup there's only one option - although I don't think that's the case. When you get to the end there should be a summary, plus the guide it downloads for you should show you what exploits it thinks you're going to use.
@@BytesNBits I managed to get my wii homebrewed working without that screen. All the guides I saw had the screen but 7.02 portable and installed and v7 never showed it.
If you set the original menu as your default you can just use it as a standard Wii. Otherwise you'll need to use Priiloader to get into BootMii and then reflash your original NAND data. Hopefully you made a backup of this when you first modded the system.
Hello this video has been a great help. I know it’s probably user error but I have followed you all the way up to the priiloader step. I don’t have any of the applications on my homebrew channel. Any possible insight onto where I have gone wrong/ can fix my issue?
Found my error I just copied the (copy sd) folder instead of the contents inside. As I had figured it was user error lol. Thank you again for this guide it was very reassuring for a first time Wii soft mod
